The pay for this job is very good for a casual. The work is easy but can be mind numbing as it doesn't get busy very often. Management pretends to listen to staff issues, however everything gets ignored and often will get turned around back onto you. Basically always understaffed, casual workers may many weeks without a day off, or long days (13hrs) with no gratitude or recognition. As a casual you are expected to work as a part-timer, if you want a day off you have to give a lot of notice (many months) and even then, they may deny you without a valid reason. There is no change in this workplace even when there is large visible issues in day-to-day service. 
Do not stay here long, management does not care about you but expects you to sacrifice your life for work. 

As a housekeeper at a hotel, you clean up a lot of disgusting things. But I was not encouraged to wear gloves (even for cleaning toilets, blood, etc.) I was informally written up twice in two days because of things I did not know. I had a family emergency and they were not understanding at all, this is a place that prides itself on family and looking after both customers and employees. But that is a blatant lie on the employee part. 

The most enjoyable part was getting paid and going home. Barely spoke to anyone for 5-6 hours. 

If you're considering working here DON'T. 
Management is sloppy and rude. 
They've purposely made it hard to put days as unavailable. 
They don't train you enough and will put you alone or to open/close areas youve never worked in.
Roster constantly changing without notice.
Constant drama between workers.
Working hours are long and often understaffed/badly managed. 
Rude, drunk customers. 
They preach 'carrer growth' but don't let you move areas if you want to.
Mistakes not at all tolerated. 
Will roster you late nights then early mornings right after.

I was trained by someone that had been there for weeks. 
Nobody had worked longer than a few months. The ones who did had been there for 20+ years. Very high turn over rate. 

It’s because of the hostile work environment. People for clicks. Management expect the world and if you give it to them they just expect more. 

The staff that bullied the most were the ones that sat on their hands the most when it came to actually doing work. 

So I left the first chance I could. 

As a general staff member it’s fairly easy to undertake your tasks. The biggest issue is management, their inability to resolve staff conflict and just let it fester. If you ever try and raise an issue with them (management), you’ll find that they just all band together against you. There is no fair process for managers to be scrutinised as closely as their general staff and this leads to major levels of corruption and unprofessional conduct. 

Management don't care about staff. We work extra hard cause we are short people and they don't bother replacing sickies. Every one that works here I guarantee they are unhappy and have no life. splits shifts every weekend and all weekend without fail! Work christmas day without any say.. miss out on a lot of family and friends events.. never been so miserable in a job

management and chefs treat their staff like TRASH!!! you will not hear one good thing from any employee of wests. never have been unhappier at a job. constantly getting yelled at and berated during service and no one lasts longer than 6 months so everyone is poorly trained and unable to do their job due to the constant flow of new staff members and staff leaving. only thing keeping me here is pay

Hands down the worst decision I have ever made in my life was applying for a job at Wests.
HR encourages bullying and even take part in it themselves, they have created the most toxic work environment I have ever experienced.
Basic human rights are denied and depression is common among staff.

I work nights so a typical night at work is pretty full on and busy, always on the go as we only have a certain amount of time to make sure that the Gym is clean and tidy for the following day. co-workers are ok to work with

The best part about working at wests is the people you meet there! The management, while always stressed and under high pressure, take time to make sure new staff members know exactly what they're doing, and making work a fun place to be.
