most people at the factory wont talk when a problem arises, they threatened to take radios away and did because one supervisor didn't like them so the place turned into a grave yard your weren't viewed as a person there just another number, if your wanted to progress further like become a machine operator they would try find every excuse they could under the sun to not make you then winged about how people didn't want to be there and didn't want to become operators, 

the hours of work were erratic supervisors never asked if your wanted to do over time they just assumed you wanted and when you said "i cant stay back today" they would winged about saying but ive organized the day around you to work till then, lack of communication in that place is shocking, in our agreement it states that overtime is there IF YOU WANT TO WORK IT, apparently you have to do overtime or you cant work there, starting times where stupid most times we would be on site at 4:30 am which is against the visy agreement but he do it any way. all in all its a terrible p[lace to work and i wont be going back.

Typical day at work would be to arrive in the morning. Get assigned by your supervisor on where to work and what orders need to be done.

Management is ****. They just come around and expect you to WORK WORK WORK, and nothing else. They don't know anything about the orders. Only time they come around is to monitor you, or bring customers around to have a look.

Workplace culture is toxic and full of stubborn old people. Gambling is rift at the workplace. Every guy is betting on greyhounds or AFL a few times a week. Bullying can happen as well and supervisors/managers just kinda turn a blind eye to it especially if the bully is someone they're mates with.

Machines are fast paced. Workers are slow paced. It's loud. Very loud. There's dust everywhere. PPE (gloves, uniform) have been going downhill over the years. They try to cut costs and the quality just becomes worse and worse. Gloves literally only last a day or two vs a week or more back in the old days. It's normally to have cuts and dry hands because of it.

Supervisors don't know what's going on half the time.

Work is highly physical - so requires a lot of fitness, attention and speed. It's not for everyone.

There's a lot of overtime if needed.

A long day always, a culture of working excessive hours, high demands from senior management. The company is deliberately lean and they make no apologies.
Systems for Maintenance are poor and essentially non existent, relying on word of mouth. Senior management understanding of maintenance is poor. Project execution usually poor they do not even allocate for spare parts in a project.
There is a strong tendency to focus on individuals rather than the issue. A culture of undermining is prevalent in production areas.

Site management group is friendly enough but they spend too much time talking rather than doing. Understanding of problems and resolving issues is below standard. 

The company is very directive rather than team based lacking consultation with relevant parties. High degree of fire fighting and reactive management.

Most people though are generally friendly and sociable. Able to speak your mind on most issues without consequences.

One of the most enjoyable things at my current position is the site where the company is located, with very impressive tech center.
I am surrounded with very talented people in trading, sales and management. And I was given the opportunity to be the manager I wanted to be and to pursue new challenges such us the continuous improvement of our ERp system to ensure quick customer order processing, and follow those orders on a daily basis, contacting shipping companies, appointing agencies and following up on documentation requirements to finally deal with banks for payment etc..
The days are short and fast paced, export has many challenges and I loved being part of it

Breakdown mechanical fitter looking after the CoGen facilities at Visy.  
Place could be a good place to work if they had a management team actually taking a pro active roll in the company.  
No preventative maintenance everything run to failure.  OH&S procedures thrown out the window every time something breaks down. 
Mechanical fitters doing electrical isolations as they won't have a electrician on shift. 
Production over safety.  In today's day and age a company of this size should be leading the way, but sad their 30 years in the past.
The control room operator and fuel prep operator who were part of the 3 man  team on shift  the only reason I lasted as long as I did. 
Shift 4 on 4 off.
If your good at your job I'd recommend not applying for a CoGen position. Other sections of Visy might be better?


What is the best part of working at the company?
Safety was a big priority I always felt like a contributing employee to Safety,  it was kept clean tidy an excellent place to work 👍 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Christmas was difficult at times just the volume of work to be delivered but it was rewarding 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
I always looked forward to seeing everyone on Monday around the coffee machine, being apart of a great team felt good 👍 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Bundy on go to the lunch room chat with other members of staff then check what has to be done and off we go loading truck after truck to clear the warehouse as much as we could for day shift to do the same for us.

Very abusive and appreciative management. Sworn at and called every name under the book (and thats if u are doing well at the job).

Very quick to get rid of people they are struggling to hire in the first place. The ones that remain get treated horribly UNLESS they are/or know someone who is in an authority position. The rest of the employees are basically seen as rubbish in the eyes of management. 

This is national, as I have friends in QLD, NSW and VIC that have said the same thing. 

Breaks are non existent, with people barely getting meals in before being eyeballed by management to head back out.

Wasn’t happy with the job outlined to me, I was forced to run the machine whilst getting paid an assistant operators wage. I was running the machine alone as an assistant even though I should’ve had another person in there. Management would tell you one thing but then do another, they act as if they care about you or your well being but it’s all a lie. I haven’t even been paid my annual leave that I’ve built up since I’ve resigned. I also barely got my breaks whilst working 9.5-10 hour shifts, I was expected to find my own breaks even though it’s not my problem. Managers always found a way to blame you for anything that happened with the machines.

start at 7.30am the usual coming in turning powers on and our computers check emails before anything.

I've learned a lot, it showed me patience's when it came to unhappy customers and when ever i need help the management or supervisor were great help.

always looked forward to lunch breaks because i had good conversation with co-workers and have great laughs

i guess the hardest part of working with Visy Board was actually my first day just trying to adjust to everything but got the hang of this once i repeated the task over and over again.

i have to say the most enjoyable part of working with Visy Board would have to be just having to work with a group of different personalities.

as supervisor, address crew on targets to meet, check machine operations.Learnt how to sort recycle products, forklift operations,opertions of hydraulic balers,maintanence on conveyer belts,certified in FLT,FEL.Good relationship with management as managers were subtle and understanding as to the nature of the job.work place culture overall very welcoming.hardest part of job was picking on lines as belts were very fast.most enjoyable, work mates were very helpful to pitch in where ever needed.
