Victorias Basement

During my time at Victoria basement I found little to no pros of working there. It’s the modern day version of Alcatraz. Constantly shouted at by management, you get hired for one role and they constantly ask u to do everything out of ur job role including security for the shop !! 

Very emotionally unstable management, who would take out their anger on backpackers and young staff..  and also the management constantly fighting with each other making the over all energy of the shop negative.. the store men and floor staff constantly overloaded with work and then verbally punished and put down for not completing it in short spaces of time. 

This company is a prime example of “profit over people” and they make that very clear to you when u work there. 

The owners of this company are also horrible people who come in once in a blue moon and shout at the managers and put them under serious pressure , so I assume other Victoria Basement locations won’t be any different. 

Also the stockroom has no Aircon downstairs leaving the stockroom staff fatigued during work on hot days as I witnessed. 

Avoid!!



My typical day at Victoria's basement requires from me multi skills approach. Sometimes in just few seconds I have to change my position and undertake completely new duties, ex. reload truck with delivery using forklift and 1 minute later find myself working behind the cash register, answering phone inquires or start providing face to face customer service.

I have found myself in a workplace which never gets boring. I m working with international team.

I've never seen a staff turnover this high in my life.
Management appear to be allergic to listening to employees about any topic (opinions, ideas, even justifiable reasoning for actions), and instead expect the impossible with contradicting instructions and no real training.
The new staff are all training each other, if we're allowed to talk on the clock at all.
Company seems to exclusively hire those that seem less likely to know their workplace rights. 

Also we're expected to cover security's breaks with no training (?!) 

I worked five days, 40 hours a week.  My position involved customer service, processing stock, mail orders and answering phone calls.  I learnt a lot about the stock which allowed me to easily sell and recommend products.

I got along with management well and all staff members worked as a team. The most enjoyable part of my job was the people I worked with were lovely.  I also got satisfaction out of helping customers not matter what they were after.

I didn’t find the work is stressful 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
You get hired when they’re busy and once they’re not busy, be ready to get fired. Only supervisor’s favorites will stay in the company

Fast requirement process. Short time between application submitted and interview.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The colleagues (some) were great to work with. Also the customers who come and chat with you sometimes are pleasant. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Some of the employees were having a powertrip, also just cussing and being unbearable.

All I have learnt here was the awful and degrading  treatment from Management. Please don't waste your time with this company. They will hire and fire you in a flash, and the reason they tell you is - " That you don't gel"

The management are very professional. They are very supportive of their people at work. I feel lucky and grateful about this. Not all are blessed. thank you.
