What is the best part of working at the company?
Great managers, great colleagues and the work is meaningful and provides satisfaction. The Uni campus is steeped with history and as a support person, I enjoyed assisting those students who didn't have a strong command of English.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Sometimes a technical issue doesn't have an immediate solution. Most clients are reasonable but understandably there are times when clients want the impossible. It can be frustrating talking to foreign students who are in their own country on a scratch phone line and poor data connection and you are trying to get their password changed.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The work environment is professional and supportive. The offices are modern and clean. The culture is broad and supportive.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Initially I travelled to the office but that changes to working from home. The challenge is to move around and not sit too long in the same position. I start at 0800 hours and take calls from staff, professors, students and alumni as well as contractors. I handle managing accounts, solving access issues like passwords and login issues as well as resetting security systems like MFA. I use Microsoft tools like ADTools to resolve Microsoft account issues and also resolve Zoom issues. My day ends at 1600 hours.

Once one of my colleague got sick and took sick leave .It was weekend and it was crazy busy . My boss asked a new trainee to do the customer service .2 of the  12/12 slabs i made for birthdays got switched over between customers. Trainee's mistake. one of the 
Customer came back after 20 minutes and started yelling about the wrong order he picked. i noticed the cake and went to check for his order. it was gone to another customer. It was a big shock .
I sent my boss to calm the customer down and started making his cake. we were lucky enough to have few extra 12/12 sponges slabs.
that cake i made was my fastest n i finished that cake in 8 minutes.
as soon i was finished the other customer who picked up the other's customer  arrived and they were not very polite as well. 
that day could have been the worse but with patient and good dealing with customer saved the day . i made them a fresh cake in just about the same time. I suggested boss to give customers the cakes which were switched for free. they both went back with a big free cake and they were happy. My boss who was loosing his mind went happy and i felt relieved handling the situation calmly and with efficiency . the hardest part of the job is to make your costomer happy while they are upset.
I learned that no matter what we cant rely on a trainee and we can not take too much pressure no matter what as it consumes one's mind to think straight. and it will make u do poor judgment.
i felt proud. because i saved that day. I was the hero of the day.

I had a deeply disappointing experience with this organization. After going through the full recruitment process and receiving an official offer, I was excited to join and contribute. However, shortly after being onboarded, I was essentially abandoned — left with no guidance, no real communication, and ultimately, no role to fulfill. What was worse is that this happened without any explanation or formal notice.

The management culture is highly disorganized and unprofessional. There appears to be no coherent structure or accountability. Promises are made during interviews that are not upheld, and the internal communication is virtually non-existent. Employees (especially new hires) are treated as easily replaceable rather than valued contributors.

This kind of behavior reflects a toxic and immature work culture — one where leadership is either unwilling or unable to support the people they bring in. It’s clear that poor planning, lack of transparency, and disregard for employee well-being are the norm here.

I would advise prospective candidates to approach this company with extreme caution. A job offer means very little when the organization lacks the professionalism and integrity to follow through.

The University of Sydney management needs to urgen attend  to these problems.

Very interesting work fields, good salary and super payments are offset by a toxic workplace culture, incompetent managers and lack of vision on management level. Every 5 years or so major restructuring takes place and many lose their jobs: ongoing, continuous means nothing. Job descriptions are inaccurate for the actual work you’re doing. Independent thinking, creativity and initiative are discouraged in favour of excessive micromanaging resulting in above average staff turnover. Despite specific policies flexible work arrangements are discouraged or prohibited. Saying this, University of Sydney is a big organisation and it depends on where you work, but a disillusioned and incompetent management among general staff seem to be frequent University wide. The Library is one of the worst.

This place is very bad for career growth if you're a fixed-term faculty member. There is no clear promotion plan at the end of a contract and a hefty teaching load. Nearly no support for young faculty members (no startup funding to secure even one PhD student; little financial support for conferences).

If you don't get PhD from Australia, please don't go to any Australian universities as a faculty. All the ARC proposals are evaluated within the nation rather than by international experts. The evaluations could be quite biased if you have no connections in Australia.

The work itself is very rewarding because you are working to create employment pathways into the university and a safe, equitable environment to work.
I was asked to write three newsletters with the same content for three different audiences, staff, students and the general public. Writing is my forte and I learned a lot of different writing techniques. This is included writing reports, briefs, frameworks, strategic plans and proposals.
Management depends on the individual, I reports to several different managers and they were all really good except for the last one who was a bully.
The hardest part of the job was to implement the recommendations the process can take quite some time.
The most enjoyable part was collaborating with staff from different PSU's and Faculties on Projects.

I begin each day by opening up my office and the classrooms situated on my floor. I will then tidy up the resource room and check to see all areas are cleaned.
I will then log onto my computer and check the emails for the 3 email accounts I look after. Throughout the day there will be an influx of students, academics, contractors and/or general people who are lost on campus who wonder into my office looking for help!

The hardest part of my job would have to be that I am in an office by myself and contact with other co-workers face to face isnt as often, so can get a bit lonley, but also having that space and freedom in my own office helps as well so there is a good and bad part! 
I enjoy being around people helping and being social, makes any job more enjoyable!

Avoid this workplace at all costs. Leadership is ineffective and fails to address the toxic culture, allowing bad behaviour and a negative team culture to thrive. Workloads keep increasing without consideration, and management seems more focused on protecting themselves than supporting their team. They pretend to care about health and well-being, but it's just a box-ticking exercise with no substance. If you value a healthy, respectful work environment, look elsewhere. This place is riddled with office politics and toxicity. Stay away.

Lots of opportunities to interact with fellow co-workers. strong cooperative atmosphere. Inclusive and laid back lifestyle, with plenty of social afterword gatherings at the Manning Bar. supportive and efficient support staff.

Typical day involves having a morning debrief meeting followed by some time researching journal articles and analyzing data.

Learned how to do literature reviews and scientific reports.

Co-workers always friendly and supportive.

Hardest part of the job is juggling many aspects and tasks of the job at the same time.

Rewarding when fellow staff recognize and complement your work.
