Traffic Control

Traffic controllers are the most selfish human beings I have ever met

In a company of maybe 110 traffic controllers only 2 of them were never a problem

I would receive phone calls from midnight till 4am for people who had confirmed their shifts..... cancelling because they forgot they had a doctors appointment.

I knew all along that they were working for another company just never knew when.

Oh and then they expect to get every shift 


The company as a whole 
The support was fantastic
The senior managers and staff at the head office where fantastic
When ever I needed something they were always there.

My experience is not so good with this company, they give there favorites all the work and the others have to get the dregs.
Not good when your trying to support a family and pay the bills.
I have learnt not to expect to much from management on sorting out disgruntled employees because of lack of work as they will not deal with the situation fairly, or at all. Everybody passes the buck and nothing is solved. you end up going backward instead of forwards in this company.

Working as a traffic controller, requires knowledge of any and all relevant road control rules, as well as full alertness at all times to minimize risk to oneself and others as it is a fairly high risk profession.
However, there are many benefits to the profession, including but not limited to, constant work being available due to the constant road work requiring traffic control.

being lured into taking up a job, paid approx $400 for uniforms etc, never got enough hours. They should not employ so many casuals and then don't have enough hours for them to work to even cover their expenses and look after the family. Terminated my employment with nothing in writing or any explanations

The company is a good one, they treat their staff well and perform well in the market
A typical day would start about 5 AM and often involved driving to Brisbane (abut 100km) before starting work.
Dutied typically involved setting up traffic control signage, cones etc then controlling traffic with a stop/slow bat.
We routinely spent up to 4 hours per day traveling to and from jobs - at no pay

It has been good getting into the civil construction industry and i am looking to further myself and become an excavator operator. The money has been great for only a 18 year old but the casual basis can get stressful with bills and rent. Iv'e met some cool people and had a fair share of ones i didn't overly enjoy. The hardest part would be the long boring days of doing nothing and how sore my legs get standing up all day.

the company was very welcoming and organised. i enjoyd working for this traffic control company the most because the comunication was very open between the office and the empolyees. both my partner and i worked for them and the entire hireing process as a hole was amazingly well planed. if we ever go back to australia i will work for them definitly. only down fall is that there wage is not as good as other companys but they make up for it by bening well organised.

I did this job in australia to gain a second year visa, The days were very long and boring. A typical day was standing on the side of the road with a stop/slow bat and working with another person on the other end to let traffic go around road works. This is not a type of job i would do again but i got to experience outback australia so i would not change the experience for anything.

the best part of the job is that you get to meet so many people and learn how things in the construction industry are actually done.
It also makes it worthwhile when you get good clients to work with too.

The job was ongoing from start to finish, Consistent until work ran out 

learned skills never previously called upon.

Management was very good, Looked after quite well by them until contracts dropped off.

The culture was easy to adapt to.

Distance sometimes, other times the lack of notice.
