I was apart of a new store opening in Brisbane and it has been a delight to work with them and watch the store open. I have interacted with the most lovely customers that just make my day.

 I learnt many new things, such as merchandising tips and tricks and building shelves, as well as tips for interacting with customers and to help them get the items they are looking for. 

The management is so fun to talk to, especially the higher ups who crack jokes and have care for your wellbeing. They also taught me many tricks/rules for working certain areas to get max profit etc. I believe the manager is a cool person, he is very serious about the job but its able to also get laughs out of it all the time and handles situations perfectly. We are also shown a-lot of recognition and are congratulated on the small things which really has an impact. Even the assistant manager is amazing to be around. 

Overall, the management team and the staff make me look forward to going into work as the atmosphere of this place is so welcoming and full of nice people.

 I came from a stressful job where I was constantly exhausted and it really took a toll on me, so working at Toymate has got to be such a rewarding job, and I love going there. Sorry for writing so much, I am a casual worker there and I love receiving my roster every week, love it :) 

In my time at Toymate I found it to be a dis-organised, at times dis-honest and always shambolic business. For every minute you spend in this business your career is set back by two. You will have zero ability to control the store you are "allegedly" managing and are constantly reacting to decisions made by an operations team with no planning, fore thought or input from the team on the floor. If you enjoy completing the same task over and over again, making up for mistakes made by an inept buying, warehousing and back office team then you will love your time at Toy Mate. For any one else looking for meaningful career development, challenges and a business which offers support, positivity and a rewarding role with the opportunity for advancement then my only advice would be to finish reading, delete the name Toy Mate from your browser history and do your best to forget they exist

Fun place to work. Great workplace culture with very friendly people. The work itself isn't too hard, and is decently fun and rewarding once you know what you're doing. Unfortunately, there seems to be a disconnect between the management aspect and on-ground aspect of Toymate. Instructions or policies from higher-up are introduced that may not make much sense, or overall aren't achievable or practical. Certain procedures only used in the massive stores are encouraged in all stores, even if its a downgrade from previous efficiency. Toymate is a fun and engaging place to work, with a good atmosphere. Unfortunately management is a bit of a let down

I worked at a new Toymate that was opening and it was the worst experience of my life. A bunch of 15 year olds they hired and they had us setting up the entire store. Shelving and everything on huge ladders. The managers would immediately fire you if you had done anything wrong. I know i was a christmas casual but the pay was terrible for what a casual should be receiving. They gave us one 30 minute break the interview 8 hours you’d work and if they let you, you could squeeze a 10 minute in depending on how ‘busy’ it was.I’ve heard now from people i still talk to that it has become a better workplace since all the managers left but still would not recommend.

All this company cares about is money. I was 19 working for one of there new stores and they completly stopped putting me on for shifts without any given reason. I had to complain about my lack of shifts multiple times before anything happened while younger people were working opening to closing every day of the week. the work culture is completly unfair and weirdly competative. They also advertised the jobs as casual and then once job was accepted they told everyone that is was a christmas casual position and basically said you are replaceable.

Involves a variety of tasks including filling stock, cash handling, refunds, salesfloor management, recovery of the store and dealing with customer complaints. The most interesting part of the job is being able to complete a set of different tasks and satisfying customers with their needs. The most challenging part of the job would include filling a lot of stock in a small amount of time in order to get the job done. Another challenging part of the job is dealing with difficult customers.

Shocking place to work 
Upper management just care about money and have no idea how to run a business. 
Worked 80 hour weeks during store set ups, paid no overtime. Only got 38 hours pay. 
No safety culture, store didn't even have a first aid kit
Expected to run a business and a team with no wages. 
Store has no policy's or procedures. 
Register system cannot even give you current soh levels or other stores stock. Poor excuse for a business. 
No training is given for anything. 

Would not recommend. 
 

enjoyed the job, i didn’t get as many shifts as i wanted but isn’t a high profit store and undertakes lots of staff at various points in the year so spreading shifts out would be hard. i was hired as an after school team member in august of 2022 and was let go on christmas of 2022. i loved the job so was devastated but it set me up with great retail training i still use day to day. 

I have been in retail management for many years and I've never seen 15 store managers come and go within a 24 month period. The way the company just takes hard working, motivated managers and micro manages them to the point where they no longer want to be there is eye opening.


It was fun but temporary, no opportunities for advancement within the company. Management is super dodgy, but the benefits of working for the company are commendable. The team members working there were all lovely, but it should be noted that after the Christmas rush is finished, so is any possible hours.
