Left the job last year. 
First of all, it is important to note that the overall rating is a three instead of a two because of what the workplace USED to be a few years ago and NOT because of what it is now. And also because this was my first job is an opportunity I will be forever grateful for and for the employees who had to put up with me when I was new. Unfortunately, all of what was good about the workplace is gone. 

Anyways, here are the very few pros of the workplace: 
- 30% discount on food and arcade games, discount on bowling
- Flexible hours given that it is open early in the morning til late at night. However, you will have to work on the weekends. Both Sat and Sun most of the time, since the place is usually understaffed.
- You can be hired easily if you are struggling to break your way into the workforce. They are always looking to hire because the turnover rate is high, hence why they are always understaffed. A lot of employees have gotten their first job here and they are tolerant of people with different skill levels.

For the cons:
- Overworked and paid less, long hours, having to constantly skip breaks on weekends, especially Saturdays.
- Management doesn't listen to employees or resolve problems. 
- It is also very disorganised 
- Unfair work culture - with a lot of people slacking off and getting away with it. Even when they are being called out, the problem is never actually resolved because only a few certain people get called out while most others don't. It's a culture.
-  There is also a lot of favouritism involved.
- Toxic work culture - a lot of drama among the employees/ers, hostility on the work group chat

Started this job and was immediately disappointed. As someone with previous experience in the amusement industry, I was shocked by management’s complete and utter inexperience and neglect. From sweeping important issues under the rug, to starting and spreading rumours about lower-level employees, I found myself in an incredibly uncomfortable and impossible situation. 
Don’t get me wrong, a select few from management were fantastic, supporting and reliable, but this does not excuse the fact that those who abuse and misuse their power and authority over others are never held accountable.
The constant bullying that employees had to endure was apparent, and from stories I heard from management about other Timezone locations, this behaviour was a pattern across most, if not all, other locations. 
Also, for a large multimillion dollar corporation, the efforts that Timezone would take to save money were absurd and incredible. Neglecting to provide employees with proper resources and labour to work productively, and then reprimanding said employees for not doing enough is unjustifiable and just plain wrong. This is yet another issue that would be swept under the rug and ignored, impacting those wrongfully blamed. 
Trust me when I say, there are so many other better and more rewarding jobs to take, so do yourself a favour and take one of those instead.

The work environment here is terrible. You’ll constantly get yelled at by managers who are supposed to be helping you, and when you do go above and beyond for customers you get zero recognition. This workplace pretends to be a safe, comfortable environment but the truth is - they don’t care about you and only care about working you as much as they can before you inevitably have enough and quit. Most of the other workers are super kind and are definitely in the same boat as you. The amount of work you do here is absurd, you will be overworked like there’s no tomorrow, with no pay increase or even appreciation of your work. Most of the managers are 18 years old and have huge egos, resulting in them being incredibly bossy and rude. To become a manager here, you have to suck up to the other managers and be one of the favourites. Most of the co-workers are very nice and make it hard for you to leave, but a majority of the managers are unbearable. 
For the sake of your own mental health, don’t work here. 

Managers are expected too do too much without enough support from regionals that live on the mainland. Work life balance doesn't exist. Expected to work nights,weekends and public holidays with a poor pay. No shift penalties given unless your part time.
As a manager the fun in the place soon goes when you see family's enjoying themselves on weekends and that is something you can't do with your family. 
It's not an enjoyable place to work once the gloss wears off. Having to deal with irate customers on a daily basis complaining that the prices are too high and that the very old machines are breaking down or miss scoring doesn't help. The place is so old and needs so much work but it's always overlooked due to new centres opening on the mainland or other centres being refurbished.
Your just a number in the place. There's no loyalty for being an honest, reliable hard working person. Giving it your all is never enough. Most of the staff were great as a whole but It's the regionals and upwards plus expectations that make it so hard.

You are expected to do a lot more than you are paid, and if you don’t management treats you horribly. It’s a bunch of kids with absolutely no experience running the place. Management is so lovely when you start then when you get busy with life or your schedule changes they treat you horribly. Give you attitude, cut your hours and shifts back a lot. Even if you are a hard worker. I was there for a year and a half and 7 of the managers I had trained in kitchen and I was told I was seen as a senior. In other words doing a managers job just getting paid the same as everyone else. Would not recommend it. Management talks bad about every single person, absolutely no training received from them. It’s the kids in the venue training. The 14 year olds who were there 1 month were expected to train full grown adults. For a year I was only allowed in kitchen, if I ever went to the front managers would yell at me. Then they would yell at me because I didn’t know front. Overall just a horrible experience.

very good first job as it allows experience in many different areas, inc. kitchen/cafe, party hosting & winners vault (sales). however!!! you don’t get a pay increase for working back of house, all “regular” employees earn the same unless you’re some kind of manager or technician. flexible roster, easy to request dates off thru schedule site. good hours unless you’re bad at your job.

although pay wasn’t amazing, i definitely would’ve stayed if mgmt was held accountable for the anxiety they caused n didn’t victim blame me. most good managers left, all the GSAs are basically high schoolers now since OGs left.

busy was the norm, could be a little quiet during school days but picks up fast EOD. INSANE on weekends, especially school holidays/pub hols n christmas/new year periods.

+++ simple n cute uniform that suits all, thick yet cool polo. doesn’t discriminate against unnatural hair colours, tattoos, piercings, etc! this place loves personality n self expression. even get to dress up on halloweekend!

Adequate pacing for days, and there's always lots to do, especially over the school holidays. Unfortunately, there are days where staff do not get breaks (30 mins regardless of hours worked that day), and while compensated are often blamed for not taking breaks as it is, 'Their responsibility to managed their time better'.

It is disheartening when staff come to realise that the league bowlers who are there each week seem to get better rates on games vs. the staff themselves. Being both a league bowler AND a staff member I often use my league discount over my staff discount for cheaper games ($18 for 4 games as a league bowler vs. $20 as a staff member).

For a minimum wage job, I guess it has its perks, but recently there has been a decline in the culture for the staff, and instability of work with good coworkers leaving to follow managers that have moved venues leaving the previous venue in tatters.

Definitely an average workplace - 3/5 stars

When i used to work there, it was understaffed, bad management, spending too much money on food that would stay in the back of the freezer. hardest part of the job was either cleaning or the midday rush on the weekends, which consists of making multiple orders as well as multiple orders for parties that can consist to up to 20 people per party. The most enjoyable part was the staff, friendly, amazing, nothing bad to say about them. i learnt how to deal and hold emotions in working conditions that would be labelled as an unsafe work environment (for me at least). On an entirely different note, if they had hired more cafe staff and fired a particular one id be still working there today

The lower ranked employees are great, they have an enthusiasm for the products, are generally hardworking and have a great attitude on the whole. My best experiences at Timezone were working with the Customer Service staff.

Management is a whole other story. The organisation was in complete disarray, the largest funds allocation was to the marketing department but we also had the smallest team of only 3 people for the 25+ stores nationwide we managed. Management figureheads are completely out of touch with the games in stores and have little to no enthusiasm for gaming culture. Office moral was abysmal as support staff were overworked and had no way to offer feedback on their roles without compromising their job security.

I would never work as a permanent employee at Timezone or indeed any LAI group company again.

Working at zone bowling has allowed me to gain further customer service skills and boost my overall confidence. I learned a lot of things although, I felt like an outcast working here because I didn't feel like I fitted in with the bunch and I was never asked to be trained for guest services. I don't know, just a thought. Management is okay, my venue manager is the best but assistant venue manager not so great. Workplace culture is great but when it gets busy, the place is horrible to work. They should definitely hire more people. The hardest part about my job was working when it was super busy and dealing with the rudest customers ever, although I learned to deal with it as apart of my working nature. The most enjoyable part of my job was learning new things and meeting great people.
