I went here as a casual worker, and due to management believing in me was given great opportunities. I was given a full time job as a trade assistant, which then lead to an adult apprenticeship. While I was doing my apprenticeship I was given a role to be part of a commissioning team in the new plant. I was able to develop as a trades person with additional training and always gave full support in my role of maintaining the plant and working on plant set ups with engineering teams.The most enjoyable part of the job was the people I worked with, and how devoted they are in meeting targets.Sadly the company being under pressure due to lack of work has had to sub contract the maintenance, which has lead to my work mates and myself now being out off work.All in all I am better for my time at Steal Mains, but its time to move on.

A typical day at work consisted of problem solving by reading tech drawings and applying them to the product to be fabricated. Every day I would learn something a little different thanks to help and input from fellow employees. The management were always ver helpful, and easy to communicate with if ever there were any queries to appear. Workplace safety was the number 1 priority to ensure the health and safety of each employee,and to deliver a quality product. Some difficulties were experienced due to a lack of materials occasionally, or due to some applied pressure to get some products out in a very tight time deadline.
At the end of the day however, I got great satisfaction from fabricating a product and showing pride in my work especially at the high quality.

I learned a lot in there about my job including welding and fitting but have to be smart how to learn things. Not all but most people keep it to themselves, they don’t want to share knowledge.
Management is horrible, the worst. The only good thing about management is very safety focused. That’s the only thing I liked about management.


Good place of work, can  be challenging physically but there's help all around and safety is always important first foremost before work. Managers and management is very supportive and flexible when facing issues regarding employees especially when you have worked there for a while. 

I worked for the company for over thirty years so i have seen a few changes over the years, in the early days with plenty of work it was always a pleasure to go to work, but as time changed and the lack of work causing the business in Carole Park to wind down leaving a gap    for those that needed to relocate for future work

Can't say enough for what this company has provided me in my past 10yrs as a employee, help with tickets and licensing and a awesome work environment and very understanding through the hard times, wish they didn't close

One of the worst places you could possibly work. 
Treated like a slave, no respect for you and management is just a competition of who has the biggest ego. They actually laugh and get a kick out of firing people. Stay away at all costs unless you like working in a poor paying factory surrounded by poor quality people.

The agency jobwire was very unprofessional in all the dealings with the employees and their HR department just don't have any empathy even to their top hour clocking blokes, terrible , though the company steelmains is a good company

Easy people to work with, great leadership staff. Has very good work safe and safety policies, Which is really good for the amount of people working there. Very good work flow.

Excellent projects, sometimes with tight time frame so bit stressful and accuracy is paramount. We have to triple check the work before it released to production.
