Working at Saint Vincent de Paul was a fun job, I found it pretty fun once you got to know everyone and the job was always a great balance of breaks and challenges.The job is definitely for anyone, both those entering their career and those ending theirs.

- Great and Relaxed Environment where challenges come and go throughout your work-shift.
- A workload where no two shifts are the same.
- Other like-minded volunteers who take pride in their job and their work-politics.

However... management, especially regional and above I found to be absolutely horrific.

They recently did some public changes to their pricing techniques that I and other found morally grey. It seemed like they wanted to increase markup and did not care about the charity side of things.

The general stigma of the regional management is quite negative also, as I have seen them consistently disregard volunteers suggestions, greetings and positive remarks for reasons beyond myself. This creates a often negative work environment where volunteers don't often want to seek management for support.

- Consistent questionable changes in policies
- Detached and unsupportive management.
- Borderline-dystopian relationship between volunteers and management

The Vinnies Store at North Parramatta constists of extreamly kind and thoughtful volunteers and staff. These individuals selflessly donate their time and energy towards people in need. 

A typical day at work would include organising the store to look asthetically pleasing and coherent for the customers, greeting the customers as they walk in and pricing books that have recently been domated. I will however, be trained at the cash register soon.

I have learned that there are so many people who are willing to selfishly help others for nothing in return. I never thought my experience would be so good. 

The area manager is such a kind and thoughful man. He has expressed true kindness when recruiting me and showed much enthusiasm towards giving people a better life. 

The hardest part of my job is organising the store. Lots of people visit the stores and reorganising can be time consuming.

The most enjoyable part of my job is knowing that donating my time results in putting food on someones table and giving someone a better life.

What is the best part of working at the company?
This is a very understanding, caring and kind group of people to work with.They are very mindful of people with medical conditions or additional needs that work for them paid or as a volunteer and will cater to their needs to ensure a smooth work day and keeping everyone safe. I would definitely recommend them as an employer.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
There is very minimal stress within this role especially in a volunteer role however you are still held to the same standard as a paid employee and taught how to use their systems which I would say is maybe the most stressful part if you are not technologically fluent.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It is a great work environment and they lead by example, by which I mean the management is also working on the floor especially to ensure that new comers are well orientated.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
You work across a range of areas and always keep busy.
This is lovely place to work with amazing people on the team.

My time working here as a volunteer is pleasurable. On a typical day, I serve customers, tidy the clothing racks, help sort clothing and much more. Since working here, I have improved on my customer service and satisfaction skills as well as my money handling skills. The store has a kind management who are understanding in terms of suitable working hours per volunteers and ensure that they make you welcome from day one. Many of my co-workers are much older than I am (by about 50 years) and have assisted me at the registers and taught me some helpful life lessons. I get along with just about everyone who works along side me. The hardest part of the job here is the sorting of new clothes coming in as I tend to second guess my decisions a lot. However, I thoroughly enjoy meeting our customers who come in and out of our store.

Working at Saint vincent de paul gave me the opportunity to learn the skills i needed like for instance : they taught me how to use the till, how to process eftpos transactions and some of my other skills i gained on my resume.
A typical day for me started at 11:30am in which i signed in and then started on my duties included: serving customers, cleaning, changing the display models,tiding the racks,and anything else that needed to be done.
 At the moment there isn't a actual manager but all the supervisors do what they need to do to keep everything running very smoothly.
The team worked very well together and made each day happy and enjoyable to attend work.
There was not anything hard about the job as i learn quickly on how to do things and how to process things.
Everything and everyday was enjoyable and made the work day seem like it wasn't actual work as we made it feel like family.

Gaining retail experience, and a good reference for future job opportunities

Often being requested to come in if other volunteers are taking time off

Everyone has been friendly and helpful. Lots of different personalities but we all seem to get along well 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Do the till float and check stock levels before opening. Open and greet customers, I often assist them in putting outfits together, or suggesting items to complement their outfit. Checking the sorting area for requested items, closing and reconciliation of tills, replenishing stock as required, serving customers at till

St. Vincent de Paul was a great place to work. I was greeted everyday by my co-workers and they all got along with me great. My day would normally consist of a bit of everything. Duties included moving heavy furniture, cleaning the back room with all the stock in it, cleaning the main floor, re-arranging clothes and bric-a-brac and tending to customers either in person or on the phone. The hardest part of the job was dealing with disgruntled customers, but I am happy to say that I never lost my cool and I always dealt with troublesome customers with tact and sympathy. The most enjoyable this about my job was the gratitude shown from customers who were in dire need of help and I was able to provide them with help and they were so happy and that was the most rewarding experience I got from working at St. Vinnies.

Working with Volunteers, different personalities, job abilities, reasons for being there, building their confidence and allowing them to grow

Expectations of an unreasonable area manager, unless of course you were apart of her click

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The culture and work environment was very toxic in the Area that I worked in, everyone acted like they were there to support you, but really they were getting information on you to trade off for safety of themselves 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Emails, setting KPIs, morning huddles, sorting donations, cleaning, hanging, pricing donations , sales cleaning merchandising windows, shelves, racks supporting the team

After school on Mondays I would make my way into town and go into St Vincent de Pauls. I would then start preparing the food that we were taking out on the Vinnie's Van by myself until others showed up because I would arrive earlier than the others. When everyone arrived we would finish off what had to be completed and pack the items into the van. We would then drive to different locations and distribute food, drink and blankets to the homeless/needy. When everyone had finished being served some of them would indulge us in stories of their past or just talk to us generally. It was pretty interesting getting to meet so many different people and hear what they had to say. When we were finished with the van we would drive back and then proceed to clean up everything we used and then head home.

I am only a volunteer, don't get paid or any advancement in this work.
I enjoy helping people in need and in a typical day might see anywhere from 2 to 8 clients varying from single people, single parents and parents with children that cannot afford to put food on the table. Everyone is a volunteer and I think we all do a great job putting our own lives on hold to help our brothers and sisters in need. The hardest part of the job would be to have to say "No" to some of the requests just because it is not something we can help with and the most enjoyable part would have to be the thanks we get from clients, specially at Christmas time when we show up with toys and just generally being able to put a smile in their faces.
