Start early with a 4am start and finish at 4pm monday to thursday being a 12hr day been there for 18yrs in which every day I regret being there.It is a job that basically needs no experience and were you can just walk off the strrets and get a start.It is basically a job that doesn`t do anything that can better your life because it is too unpredictable and inconsistant in hours and that is why there is such a high turn over of staff.The management is well there and the hardest part of the job is the repeativeness and the best part of the job is driving out of the gates and going home

Not a day go's by that you dont learn something. TAFE is a great place to learn new skills to take back to your place of Employment but trying to teach new skills to older employers not realy good idea at times. Great people to work with especialy the Older generation as they teach you how they used to do things the old way.Hardest part of the job is getting the trust & confidence of your Employer. When the Older sector go's away for a couple of days & we get in & clean up all those small unfinished jobs. tidy up ready for the next big job.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Company help worker in super contribution and help in providing safety gear.


What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Long working hours and standing only

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It's good but not that good because of work pressure by the management.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Very tired due to work conditions.

Start with giving your knives a good sharpen, have a few laughs with your work mates while this being done. Go to your station ready for action sometimes we would swap jobs. The hardest part of the job is standing in the one spot for most of the day, the best part of the job , mateship.

You work your butt off for very little money.
I worked at southen meats for 13 years and didnt even get a thanks .
Pay is poor .  The people i worked with were great but the bosses were rude and down grabed. 
I made great mates. Didnt get enough bracks.
Since i left i have had so much problems with my wrist and shoulders. All i can say is not worth working there.

Southern meats is an abattoir. I am in a labouring position. 
I weigh and pack meat, trim meat using knife skills, clean spinal fluid out and have cleaning duties.
The hardest part of my job is the early starts and the pressure the work puts onto my body. The most enjoyable part would be the people.

They were long days with early starts, decent and consistent hours. The people can be friendly and helpful and everyone helps you out if you get stuck behind. The money is also good. The smell of the place can be of putting but it's worth it in the end.

Working in abattoir is not easy but when your supervisor, vet on plant and foremen shouting, bullying you and put you under severe stress, it makes the condition worse.
You are expected to do something you are not able to do.
The management there is not acceptable.

This is an environment which not only encourages adaptability but also requires it. Becoming efficient in any position given is vital, not only for yourself but also for workmates, this invents an interdependent work place that requires team work to succeed.
