Working in Hotside (Sizzlers name for the kitchen) was more like warking in a fast food joint than what I imagine a restaurant would be like. The vast majority of work could be put down to the fryers (chips, seafood and potato skins), the grill (chicken and steak), and the make bench (putting it all together on plates and microwaving mash potato).

So, it's a fairly simple job to do but is quite busy most of the time, and if it's not then you'll likely be sent home, unless their's work in other areas that needs doing.

Unless you are willing to open or close the restaurant regularly then the hours are generally limited to the lunch and dinner rush. They can be a bit limited.

Overall not bad, but not something that will lead much of anywhere.

Constantly hiring new people when there aren't enough hours for the people who have worked there for years. Will cut your hours to nothing for 3 weeks and ignore you when you ask about it. Most management was okay but certain managers played favorite's and would treat other staff very poorly. Incredibly hypocritical, managers would yell at staff when they thought they weren't working hard enough but then would also call them over when they were bored to show them facebook videos. When they had to work in sections they wouldn't do staff procedures they would sit on their phones and leave everything for the next person on. Managers would also expect you to do everyone but your own jobs and then yell at you when you haven't had enough time to complete your own tasks. Just a very miserable workplace.

A typical day at Sizzler (depending on what section you worked) was rewarding in the sense that you get to talk to customers during your shift, helping to make a difference in their day. I learnt a lot working there: how to communicate better, how to prep meals, wait tables, etc. The management was okay. There are different managers for each section you work in. My manager was amazing, she really looked after and cared about her staff (a total mum). Workplace culture was great. All of the staff got along, and worked together. The hardest part of the job was confrontation with unsatisfied customers, however the most enjoyable part was talking to the team and customers and just generally having a fun time while you do your job.

A typical day is constantly on your feet, all soups, salads, desserts, soup bowls, plates and dessert bowls are your responsibility. Answering to all customers with questions, comments and even a friendly quick chat. Everyday you learn how to do something new and get surprised with how much faster you get everyday. The hardest part however is constantly filling the salads, desserts and soups to the top for the whole day, while listening to customers and cutting things up, prepping things for e.g.
However to see the food you put out and the happy faces of the customers is all worth it.

A typical day at work is quite busy. Interaction with the customers is a major component of my role. Over the past year I have been there I have learnt a lot about customer service and how important it is to keep it at a high standard to keep customers coming back. I have advanced from be certified at Coldside to then being trained in Serivce and I am now a certified trainer in both sections. The hardest part of the job is working late nights and working understaffed if someone is sick.

The most enjoyable part of the job is the people I work with and the customer interaction.

A typical day at work would be preparing, cleaning then serving the first customers until your shift is over. I learnt communication skills, food handling and phone skills. The management were always understanding and we're greate to work with. My co-workers were greate to works with an easy to get along with. The hardest part of the job is the farst pace but you get used to it after working there for awhile. The most enjoyable part of the job was the environment it wasn't stressful

Good people to work with, management is good, not a difficult job but just not the best. Probably suit people seeking temporary jobs, like school students or school leavers. Not suitable for people who are looking for a career out of this. It pays well and the hours are flexible. Only typically get a lot of shifts during the school holidays.

Started this job when i first moved to Australia, as a 15 year old, leaving school and home life it was daunting, i started this job to try and build friendships. This work place was not the right place for that. 
Staff were rude and didn't speak. Training was just shadowing someone who didnt speak to you and expected you too know what to do with everything and were the table numbers were. 
All round bad experience. i stuck this for a few months before moving back home with parent.

Some of the older staff were good to work with were as the younger staff were know it all idiots who didn’t care about the work and only wanted to hang out with their friends and gossip. And with the expectation of one of the managers the rest didn’t know how to run the place properly and one of the managers would only give shifts to people only he and his girlfriend liked and cut the rest of the staffs hrs down or canceled the shift all together.

I start by doing work experience and I loved it. Everyone was so lovely and kind.
Tonight I start my casual work.. I am sure everything will be fine, but was just worried about not knowing alot of people and getting yelled at for not doing my job correct.

Overall, when I was doing work experience, they were lovely, kind and had lots of compliments towards me as well.
I LOVED IT.
