Service NSW

At first, I enjoyed my time at Service NSW until team leaders stopped “caring” about us after 3-4 months of employment. 
I was hired to do 2 skills and by the 4th month I was forced to work with 15 different skills with little training. 
It felt like we were always thrown in the deep end and told to swim. Plus, we never had any sort of pay rise or choice in doing those skills, we were being paid the same amount as someone who was doing one skill. 
The adherence schedules were stupid, you were pretty much allowed to go to the bathroom once a day, within your 8 hours. 
Some of the team leaders were absolutely rude, not assisting with inquiries, questions or escalations. They always said they were “too busy doing admin work” 
I as well as so many other agents I had spoken to had developed major fear and anxiety from the abuse received over the phone, the micro managing from team leaders and the lack of support and training to deal with situations. 
Service NSW does not have opportunities to progress unless you closely know someone in other departments. 
There were many times we were told “not to plan our lives” when schedules were wrongly distributed. If you aren’t a permanent employee or someone with kids, your leave requests will always be denied or “on a wait list”. We were told to pretty much mould our lives around our work and not worry about our personal life. 
Service NSW do not care about their people, they hire as many people as they can just to dispose through them all then hire a new bunch of people. 
I strongly DO NOT recommend Service NSW as a workplace. 

I got paid $30 p/hr as a temp which was amazing but not worth what I had to deal with everyday. Working here was like being imprisoned. Chained to my desk, I couldn't even go to the bathroom more than twice a day without ruining my daily adherence to schedule. They are very big on timing and basically want perfection. But hey, if you've been there for 5 years you can spend the whole day downstairs having a smoke or lounging about in the break room and no one says a thing.

Team leaders were very friendly and helpful but the overall atmosphere and management direction was snobby. It constantly felt like my job was being dangled in front of me and I constantly felt replaceable. No flexibility, no security, no advancement to further my career in any way.

For the most part the staff are great but a toxic culture in management persists.  Your managers will not communicate, support, advise or even have the decency to be honest.  They will provide you with positive verbal feedback when prompted but provide negative feedback to their managers or your recruiters that you will not be able to access.  If you're a skill hire/contractor, they will sack you without notice nor explanation.  For all of their mantras on accountability, integrity and honesty, those who rise to management positions have none.  

I worked there for about 4 years.  Worst experience ever.  You are expected to do over 100 different transactions with little training and errors are not tolerated.  Unsupportive environment.  Favouritism (friends and family  of management magically advance before everyone else).  No concept of Fair Work rights, they make rules up as they go.  Very nasty culture. No flexibility for working parents.  Bullying seems to be the norm there.  I wasted 4 good years of my life working for this toxic organisation.  The only good thing I took away from the experience is that I am more resilient and learnt how to deal with really nasty, toxic people.

Learning new skills and knowledge of NSW governance 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Micro management of customer enquiries and complaints 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
I found the environment claustrophobic and not very helpful in finding out how to complete any transactions unless you were a personal friend within the business 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Complete outstanding customer returns,  access new enquiries online, respond quickly and suitably to any customer requests and refer to the correct department or information required to complete enquiries,  and continue till end of the day

Started off great, some difficult customers but 90% are lovely. Very very busy and understaffed, Recuitment have no interest in bringing new staff in or it takes months and months.
Management is a huge issue, it’s a popularity contest so if you’re not in the inner circle, consider yourself done. You won’t be offered career progression as they only promote their friends. If you have an issue with something they have done, you can’t do anything about it because they protect each other or sweep it under the rug. It’s very disappointing because Maitland centre used to have potential until a management shift.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Management at all levels. Micro management and no flexibility. Bullying and no progression possibility, invest $ in areas that are not our focus. Old systems and slow to change

Terrible, micro management, stressful, no flexibility and bullying is common

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Cust faced transactions, in an office, face to face. Angry cust that are abusive and can get physical. Multi tasking at the max, high pressure

Firstly, you want to know about pay. It is incredible! Usually high 50k at least bare minimum for entry level positions. Free designer uniform, but the work is very difficult. Expected to learn tonnes of info in a very short amount of time. Management do breath down your neck if you don't perform as 40 other people would happily replace you. Lots of usual office gossiping, rubbish and backstabbing. Negative workplace. Customers are usually nice enough, all the confrontation takes place behind the scenes. Management are very passive aggressive.

By far possibly the best decision I've made in my personal career path. I am surrounded by management who I feel inspired by. Definitely taking their leadership qualities with me. I was lucky enough to join a Service Centre that was close to home, meaning that I get to service my own local community. Learnt a lot about the community which had only made me more passionate in helping and assisting those in my LGA. 

I started off as a 3 month contractor and was given a temporary contract. If you are consistent and work hard, it doesn't go unnoticed. I definitely recommend. 

I worked as a DSR at the Bondi Junction Service Centre.
While the colleagues were mostly great, the service centre Manager at the time was an untrustworthy bully.
There was little to no support on the floor, dealing with atrociously rude customers all day long. Your purpose there was to survive, getting through the day at best…
Always understaffed, with a very high turnover, my physical and mental health degraded fast. 
Thankfully, I was able to move on and progress my career and I enjoy every day my work now. If you can survive a busy Service Centre, any job will seem easy I guess…
