Scholastic Australia was not a pleasant place to work at even the best of times, but it was an excellent place to learn the ropes of the trade publishing industry, if a trial by fire is your preferred method of learning. The management culture was set by the petty despot who sat as Head of Publishing and ran the team like it was high school, pitting employees against one another and fostering a deep sense of distrust and secrets. I suffered under three terrible managers who had thrived in the HoP's toxic environment, and it took a huge physical and mental toll on me.

However, I was also extremely lucky to work with two fantastic managers who believed in fostering talent, supporting their staff, and creating beautiful books. Without them, I would not have continued in publishing, and I would definitely not have found my way out of Scholastic--they were 100% aware of the terrible work environment and made it their priority, when the time was right, to help me find my current position.

Scholastic is a very friendly place where everyone clearly enjoys talking to one another and freely talks while working.

Nobody would hesitate to help you and even ask regularly about your well being.

Snacks without fail are put on the side should everyone get peckish.

Sitting for long can get your body numb however their is alot of free time so you can take breaks.

Long break hours are helpful to restore feeling and blood circulation.

My role was very challenging and enjoyable at the same time.

My duties were opening all the mail which was a big bag full every day then key in all the money in batches and had to balance at the end of it and than key in all the orders from the schools.

I worked with a great team they really looked after me.

The hardest part of my job was to try and get all the cash keyed in one day.

The best part of my day was achieving my goals.

Some of the people are really nice and respectful to hang around with or talk to. The team leaders are nice most of the time but could be more understanding and lead the team a lot better by observing the line. Altogether though it's a easygoing job and a good place to work. 

It is a large American owned company and there are many employees who have worked there for over 10 years. The work culture is very competitive and can be stressful at times. I enjoyed working with the many streams of the company divisions and seeing my work make a difference.

High pressure environment impacting even the most capable and experienced. Genuine feedback from employees undervalued. Too many good employees leaving due to feeling taken for granted under appreciated. 

Casual employment always hiring new staff instead of giving the workers they have more shifts. They scream for staff but will not offer people full time employment unless you’re related to supervisors. 

Good place to work, you have to work hard to stay on the roster which i liked, and slackers are not tolerated. Pay is good, people are good. I enjoyed my time with Scholastic. Great sense of community amongst the warehouse staff.

They only give casual job opportunities.
Very fast paced environment however due to recruiting more staff than necessary, your lucky if you get any work at all.

This is a good job if you don't need hours. Suits retired or even student because they have periods where they are not busy for weeks and in the school holidays you don't catch hours at all. Fun workplace, easy work
