Always hired the best people and created a really tight knit group but there were a lot of issues within the store e.g management not letting you change your shifts, out back and out front staff not liking each other and most important of all, managemet convincing you the "savers normal" is "real life normal" (its not).

The absolutely unsual  customer base would come in and physical and verbally abuse us and management would refuse to ban them. Things like creepy men who would follow us and offer us food and money and would shop 3/4 times a week not being banned, people who throw things at us being giving another chance/can't be banned until they act up again. 
People regulary deficate in the store and into items and this would be considered our "normal" and just have to go with the flow, luckly we weren't expected  to handle this but managers who are pay a couple dollars more would (I feel very bad for them, only sometimes).
Being under-staffed is the normal, missing 2 team members (on a already MINIMAL staff amount) and having to just accept that half the stores clothes is on the ground or dumped in the changerooms is to be expected.
This place has a high staff turn over which leads the under-staffing to be even worse since hald the staff and newbies. 
Being untrained is also standard, 
I never recieved proper training for many aspects of the store and ended up being trained by other team members who were tired of waiting for the mangers or needed my help.

Overall amazing team members, was fun and have great (and disturbing) memories but would only recommend for short term employment and only if your desperate and have a high toleratent for the unsual and frankly disgusting 

The stores dont properly train managers because they cannot afford to, as they are only focused on profit despite being a thrift store and getting their products from donations. Safety at the store is completely ignored by everyone who should care and who can change things. Security guards who dont do anything or incorrectly training/not training at all. In emergencies my supervisors would leave me in charge despite my training being barely completed (they were well aware and fully trained). 

Being a team member is the only position i would recommend here, if you are a supervisor you will become the middle man to managers who dont care about you and will transfer you between stores without any questions. Team members wont be able to trust or respect you because you have no power to actually improve anything or help with their complaints, as well as the shift supervisors being fired or quitting almost always before the 6 month probation ends. This means team members are also seeing this lack of professionalism. 

Not only this but as an inclusive store it is interesting to see how quickly any managers who are lgbtq+ have been ‘removed’. 


The only good thing about this place is the people you work with. I worked here for 5 years and the only reason I stayed so long was the friends I made there. They were like family and it was hard to leave them. But management is so disgusting. They don't give a single toss about their employees at all and you're treated like children. Not to mention the favoritism. They will make you try to exceed ridiculous targets a day that is just impossible. They act like you work for Myer or something but you guys are just a crummy op-shop. If you have any integrity, apply for a job elsewhere! I promise you, you'll want to leave as soon as you start. All the people I knew have left as well because they were just done with how awful the place is.

Prepared to train you, good team to work with, management try to help with hours . It’s physically demanding but why not get paid to work and get fit instead of paying to go to the gym . Happy customers to deal with ( everyone loves shopping there let’s face it ). Recycling ethos is really good . Don’t just use volunteers to run their ‘charity ‘ stores but really commit  to their staff by training them and paying them . The partnership between the company and local charity is genuine . Great casual job  while studying or job for parents and older people who hope for an ongoing part time or  a full time job. 

In my position I would begin each day setting up my work station for the day. Then I'd begin to sort through the bags/boxes of second hand jewelry to make sure it was all jewelry, and to put anything that wasn't into the relevant departments boxes.Then I'd price the jewelry according making sure to keep to price points and quotas for the day. The rest of the day would involve taking the jewelry out to the shop floor, merchandising it, and helping customers, followed by tidying my work station.
In my department I worked fairly autonomously, but the interactions I had with my co-workers were positive for the most part.  

In 18 months period  I worked there , 22 of the staff members left, JUST in the production area. They are constantly hiring people , wasting management time on interviews when they could be more present helping members to train them. When asked to increase my salary , the answer from a high management member was: Do you want more money?, work more hours. They do not appreciate and value hard work,  loyal, responsible and reliable employees. It seems like it is worthy for the company to waste money and time in advertisement,  interviews rather than increase the salary of those potential employees.

being in a diversity environment and working with warm and friendly staff and given the best opportunity on just being yourself while working with others in a great team environment

adapting to policy and procedures and dealing with HR

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
its honestly very good and enjoyable every day every shift

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
constantly moving and providing great customer experience

This is a very fast paced job, so time management is a must.
Physically fit is a must also, as a lot of heavy lifting is involved.

At times management are over whelmed with the work load, so I help by doing more then what is asked and expected of me.

I enjoy working with my co-workers very much.

The hardest part of the job is when we are short of staff, due to sickness or personal reasons, also when stock an tools have not arrived on time.

On a personal basis I enjoy my co-workers at work an outside of work

The most horrible management I have ever worked with in my many years of managing businesses. If you want a place that absolutely destroys your mental health - work here. I have so many words to describe the disgusting treatment myself and many others recieved but all you have to do is speak to the workers here. They will tell you within a few days of how unprofessional, stressful and depressing this workplace is. I would avoid this place at all costs, nothing is worth what this place puts you through

Management at savers demands you to act like you're working somewhere that pays a lot more than they do. You're not allowed to stop and have a chat with your coworkers, stand at the checkout to wait for customers or really stand anywhere (even if it makes for logically better customer service). You always have to be moving and everyday is exactly the same. There are very few incentives of positives to this job, but it's fine sometimes and the staff are generally lovely.
