Salmat Distribution

I started this initially to get a bit of extra money to help me pay my kids pocket money and also to hope my teen girls would want to do it in order to earn some money. My round is large there’s about 366 homes. The folding is time consuming but I’ve learnt the best way to fold and I try and do it over the weekend so I’m ready once the week starts. Folding can be quite relaxing. The delivery takes sometimes 2 days as if I have a lot of leaflets it’s too much to wheel round so I often do the round in 2 parts over 2 days.  The money fluctuates wildly and I can receive anything from $35-$90 per week depending on how many leaflets need collating. It’s busy right now so the money has been pretty good each week. They’re all delivered to the house. I think it’s time consuming but a great option for kids  for their first job or a teen for extra cash. My manager is great and there’s no issues. My 12 year old so does a round too and is saving his cash to buy something he wants so it’s great that he has this job option. We often all assist each other to get the job done. 

The papers were generally received on Friday, folding took about 3 hours between 2 people (sometimes 3), delivering was done in less than 2 hours which totaled to about 5 hours of work. The management was very good and organised, they provided a map and a detailed description on which houses to deliver to. I learned that hard work pays off because I did it for around half a year and enjoyed the extra cash and the exercise, I got a lot out of the short experience. The hardest part of the job was probably the weeks where the pay was just over $10 because the hours spent were almost equivalent to that of a more highly paid week we received much less. Although the lighter load was something that I enjoyed on those weeks. The most enjoyable part of the job by far was seeing the money in my bank account knowing I had earned it, it wasn't from a gift but I worked for it and I could enjoy the money I had worked for.

although you got good hours and decent pay, i was 13 when I was in this job and as a young child in year 7/8, work was hard to balance with my minimal study hours as I lost sleep staying up late folding papers to get the distributions done in the required time frame (keep in mind my distribution field was a 40min walk from my house and work would take up to 3hours to get to every house). can’t remember my boss’s name but I remember she was absolutely amazing and totally understood when i stopped working for Salmat after 2 short months.

That fact that the job is so easy to get should set off alarm bells.

The reason it's so easy to get a job doing it is because everyone quits after a couple of days, just like telemarketing.

Basically the hourly rate will be something like $5 an hour once you work it out. They get away with it because the pay is based on the amount of stuff you deliver, not how long you work.

You have to fold all the pamphlets together before delivering, which takes like 2 hours. And the delivery part takes ages, you have to cover a huge area.

You are given 2 days to collate and deliver a rather large (ranging from 90-100kg) bundle of leaflets and catalogues in medium/large area. Just collating the items will take maybe 3-6 hours itself, depending on how quick you can work. The safest bet is to just stick to doing the weekend routes, but those pay WAY less than the weekly ones. Management is poor as they would always screen my calls, or take days to get back to me

I have worked with Salmat for nearly 3 years and overall the experience isnt awful. The pay is very little, but the amount of work isnt terribly overwhelming, providing you have help from others. There is not much communication with the actual company, the catalogues just show up at your house and you deliver them.

I did this for about 4 years but it almost destroyed my lower back. WARNING if you have any lower back problems avoid this work. Lots of work for very little pay (less than $10 an hour). Lots of carrying, folding and walking. You probably need a car as well (doing it without a  car would be brutal).

Salmat is a very good company that provides the employees with a strong stepping stone into the labouring world. The information is easily understood and they are a very friendly company. However the way they pay you is really poor and i would be shocked if they didn't make a massive profit.

I personally do not recommend this company due to my manager/ boss telling me that she does something every Monday and she did not complete this, the action for this was me not getting paid for 3 weeks. when i messaged her about my pay she said I should have told her i put it in and became very rude about it.

The manager was very kind and nice But with around 400 houses to deliver to twice in one week was stress fall but learnt how to manage this with creative idea another con is they never gave back any work recommendation letters
