STATE SWIM

A typical day at work requires 2 and a half hours teaching 5 classes (one every 30 minutes). The classes go through the skills that the kids need to learn whilst keeping the children safe and having fun. 
Each class I learn more and more about what the kids like to talk about, what kind of teacher I am (or want to be), how to engage the children and help them to want to learn, and what it means to be a good teacher. 
The management is very organised and professional, they look after all workers and do their best to help out instructors personal needs.
All of my co-workers are extremely friendly, down to earth and great teachers. 
The hardest part of the job would have to be the amount of training and how much it costs to actually get a job as a swimming instructor, but it is definitely worth it. 
The most enjoyable part would have to be helping the kids grow and become better swimmers not only to help themselves for the future but also seeing their interest in swimming grow into a hobby, just like I did when I started swimming.

Can’t fault the program itself it’s brilliant. 
The venue I worked at sadly wasn’t well run. 
Pay rates are ok unless you’re forced to work a weekend or public holiday with no benefits. 

Expected to work like a full timer with no actual benefits. 

Frowned upon to need a day off and expected to go above and beyond with no actual appreciation for the extra workload you take on. 


Brilliant program for the kids and if the centre was managed better with head management getting involved and caring more it would be a different story 

I would come into work, get dressed into swimming gear, jump in the pool, meet the children that id take for there lesson and then just repeat each lesson for 30 mins, then onto the next class, i learned about all the movements of each swimming stroke and how to manipulate to help the children do it. co-workers were alright but not that friendly, hardest part would have been the training and getting the courses to be able to work there which cost over $200, most enjoyable part was being in the pool teaching

Management are horrible and rude. Told them my leave date and I was ridiculed for it. Made it a very uncomfortable last few days. Management don’t follow proper protocols in regards to shutting the pool down when necessary. Change your clock out times even when you do over time. Don’t pay you correctly even when you do extra work because of their poor judgment. Guilt trip you if you can’t do a shift because of the high turnover of staff 

I love working at state swim, the working environment is positive, I fell job satisfaction every day because I am putting back into the community and potentially saving lives. 

The only downfall is the lack of available hours and salary. 

I would work there for the rest of my life if it paid the bills. I know I can grow and develop and mature as an Instructor, Supervisor or Manager.

Pretty good swim school. They give good feedback and help out quite a bit with training and even once you're trained, so you never feel like you're alone. The pay isn't great though compared to public swimming schools.

Amazing environment, constantly learning and is very easy to learn and keep up and feel as though your apart of a team. The hardest part is being able to communicate with the kids and get them to understand swimming and all of the safety precautions

When I am working there it's great, I really enjoy it but that's when I actually get a shift. For the last few weeks I've had one shift a week because there are so many instructors there but as I said it's a fantastic place to work and the kids are great to work with.

Great place to work, especially if you are a student needing flexible casual work or a parent returning to the workforce. Great scope for advancement if you want it or just a rewarding job you can fit around your other commitments 

Management is usually really good unless they have something they want to hide from the public. this is when the level of the chlorine level isn't great. also pay isn't great compared to government
