When I first started this job I thought it was great. There was a buzz about the place and training was fun. The training didn't prepare me for the actual job. Constantly being chased up by managers about why I wasn't straight back on the phone after a call, why I wasn't getting my "leads" basically sales targets although I didn't work in sales and wasn't told about this before. Basically you couldn't do anything right. Then was told I had a complaint made about me from a customer. Ended up having meeting after meeting and was really stressful. Along with trying to keep up my targets and daily call queues of 45 customers waiting and then getting angry at me as there was a queue. Also shifts were rubbish only got a half hour break on a late shift and this wasn't enough as it is constant. They are under staffed and management only care about there own targets and how your performance will effect them. Bullying culture. Ended up quitting as I knew I was getting the sack. First 6 months is probation and the department I was in this was almost always extended. They didn't give you any chance to progress. Although some staff who were rubbish at there jobs managed to get promoted because there face fitted. Very school like culture . I do not recommend and the majority of the staff in the department were new as most people quit or were sacked fairly quickly

Responsibilities: SSE is one of the largest and most diverse energy companies in the UK. As a health and Safety Advisor I am responsible for taking a pro-active approach to ensure compliance with current H&S legislation and SSE standards. Actively promoting the company’s safety culture throughout the project teams and contractors.

from the time of the interview, my manager had an open, honest and competent attitude. The team I had the chance to collaborate with has been extremely collaborative with the patient. No one has ever rushed me to reach my goals but at the same time, it was clear that a quality product was expected.

I worked at SSE on a fixed term contract for six months. Despite this within in the first week I had already felt like I had been there for years. I was well supported, buddied up with a supervisor and had regular catch ups with management who are always there to help. Colleagues were friendly and helpful and we all worked together. Just a shame there wasn’t any full time jobs in the department after my contract.

The other employees and your work colleagues are generally a good bunch of people. The teams I have worked in have been a happy and engaging and the best people I have worked with. There is also good benefits and the wages are well above minimum wage even for the lowest paid workers.
I do believe higher management are a bit less connected with the people on the ground floor and some of the recent decisions have not been the best.

a typical day at work would be in a general inquiry environment where customers would phone up with different queries regarding their gas and electric bills, etc. i would also get many complaints that i would need to solve and sort out. i learned many things and picked up great confidence and communication levels. my manager gave me a lot of support and it helped as i was young and hadn't had much experience at this level before.

The worst part of the job was dealing with the managers.  There was a 'pals act' culture and engineers were treated differently.  The salary was in line with the job.  Too much working away from home in awful accommodation.  No scope for career changes.  Managers never listened to your advice on jobs.  Any issues never dealt with by HR/Personnel.

Good benefits and able to wfh so good work/life balance

Not always being told the true picture which makes decision making difficult

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Culture was good. Work environment was pleasant

Badly managed, difficult to progress within the company unless your friends with people in higher positions, people with no real clue get jobs Purley based on the fact that their pal is a CSM.

Good experience at a senior level.  Senior Management is approachable and broadly supportive.
The company has a strong set of values which are regularly communicated.
Some IT systems are dated & there is a lack of good quality MI in some areas.
Central functions could take a stronger lead in providing guidance and support which is easily accessible.
