Romeos Foodland

There are many positives about working at Romeo's Foodland such as flexible working hours, friendly employees and generally friendly customers, anywhere you work there will be customers who are rude. Having thick skin is definitely ideal in working in retail, particuarly at my Romeo's Foodland where the cusomters aren't the issue though it is store management. I have worked there for 3 years and we have had many store managers majority of which were great, though the new manager is extremely rude and constantly belittles and talks down upon with all staff members, grocery, deli and checkout. Of course i understand that if a staff member does something wrong by all means tell them what they need to do to improve, though the way he says it is unnecessarily rude and makes you feel like really bad about yourself

Friendly and supportive environment to work in, with on-hand assistance and training when required. My experience whilst working at Romeo's Foodland has developed my communication and customer service skills to the next level. I have also developed good organisational skills and have the ability to work proficiently under pressure. I have a good rapport with the team and management, within the organisation and their positive feedback  and encouragement has  given me the confidence to deliver exceptional customer service. The best part of the job is the flexible and consistently positive environment I was in and the hardest part of the job is not receiving enough hours to be financially sustainable.

Management is extremely rude. They do not care about employees at all. Forced to stay back at work without getting paid. No flexibility. Management salary is an absolute joke. Duty managers have to work every second Sunday with no penalty rates. Managers change roster last minute sometimes forcing you to work extra hours without getting paid. Dodgy rosters - from my knowledge they have changed it now since there is a class action prepared against the company but back in the day they would roster me to finish at 9pm, but would have casuals working til 9.15/9.30 - which means that as a person who had the keys to the store I would be forced to stay back.

Please avoid applying for jobs with Romeo's, unless it's a casual positon!!!!

I worked for the Romeo’s for 12 year’s not once was I acknowledged for my effort or work, despite always going above and beyond to innovate and develop new procedures. In the last year I was belittled and sworn at by an executive team member for something that was due to the companies lack of organisation. 

Positive work place culture doesn’t exist here. Don’t bother unless you want to contemplate you’re existence everyday while at work.  

Workers are grossly underpaid and titles are changed to make it ‘legal’. 

No chance for real advancement or promotion unless you’re a chauvinist pig. 

Staff turnover incredibly high

The workplace environment at Romeo's Foodland is a fun yet productive environment, where the dynamic culture brings about the willingness to work cooperatively as a united team. The daily basis will comprise of receiving produce, filling the store and maintaining high standards in presentation, placing orders, stock quality and quantity control and assisting across departments where necessary. Working weekends is a negative aspect, but whilst studying at university full-time, this is when my availability is. The most enjoyable part of my job is being involved within a greater community of people, both the staff and the customers.

Working at Foodland is an enjoyable yet serious job. You gain a lot of knowledge and learn important general skills to take into other jobs. Such as communication skills with other employees and customers, which makes my job very enjoyable. Some days are quiet and some can be extremely busy in which assistance from other staff members is required. This has developed my skills in working as team and building friendships with the other members of Romeo's Foodland. This can also be a difficult area in the job as not all staff are available, this then keeps our customers waiting longer than we intend they do.

They were good why I was young but didn’t give me any hours once I turned 18

It wasn’t a stressful job, but maybe not knowing roster any more than a week in advance

Great, I liked working there .
There have been a lot of different managers lately though 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I typically did grocery and some checkout 2 shifts a week

Have been in the retail industry for the past 16 years doing various managerial roles. Daily focus is on customer service , stock and profit control and coaching and developing my team to achieve goals and meet targets.Days can be long and challenging sometimes, but overall i enjoy the customer interaction and working in a team environment.

The staff in store are friendly

Understaffed and  managemen expectations

Store level is great but upper management will treat you scream and barrade you In front of staff and customers

It used to be a great place to work, then new managers were employed who treat their staff horribly. This job is definitely not for young kind hearted people. You need to have thick skin. They don't give older people hours 18+, they give all the hours to the younger kids to save money
