Reggio Emilia Early Learning Centre

Having worked in a large Centre of over 120 children, it does get busy. I was a floater for most of my time working there and I gained a lot of experience in all age groups and I love them all. Each age group has their pros and cons but at the same time you learn to love every aspect of the work environment regardless of its hardships.
Every day is a new adventure with those children, teaching me new things and also teaching them. You watch children involve themselves in activities such as writing. Watching the children start from not being able to write a single thing, to every child in the class writing their alphabet in lower and upper case. Its simply astonishing. You'll also see the babies starting from 6 months or even earlier, with the child not even being able to lift themselves up independently to seeing that same child running around the entire outdoor environment.
I learnt all room's different routines, from what time to make the bottles and cots to, what time the children have meal times and what time the children sleep.
Majority of my co-workers have become not only the girls I work with but, colleagues that I'll truly remember.
The hardest part of the job was getting attached to the children, that when they leave the centre for personal reasons, its really hard to say goodbye once you've learnt to love each child.
The most enjoyable part was getting up and going to work. I loved coming to work because I knew that these children I worked with just put a smile on my face and make my day an even brighter one.
Each child is unique in their own way and that's what's so beautiful about working with children, you learn so many things that from them and every day is a new beginning.

As the Accounts Manager it is nice to work for a company that appreciates what you do on a daily basis. This has nothing to do with any financial reward or  the staff reward program it is merely the fact that the owners thank you for a job well done. 
As a member of the management team for 2 yrs I feel we all work extremely well together.  There is no snobbery between each of us regarding our roles.  We throw ideas around and help each other in a time of crisis.  We are more like family than team members.

Being new to the childcare industry I had to get my head around a lot of parental CCS issues very quickly and had to hit the ground running.  My day to day timetable of parent CCS issues and daily accounting issues is definitely solidly jam packed but love what I do and love working here.  There are certainly weekly challenges looking after families from 6 centres but as I am continually learning it makes it all worth it in the end and happy to help families understand childcare and CCS.

We have a fantastic staff reward system, along with daily staff lunches (which are absolutely delicious), I have a free membership which due to personal circumstances I have had to put on hold.
I have been lucky enough to take my husband skiing for the weekend at the expense of Reggio Emilia.  This was a fantastic surprise and we really appreciated the gesture.
We have an annual xmas party and being in an industry of only woman it is great to let your hair down and dance the night away.  We have had several cruise functions and last year was the best.
All in all I am very happy working for Reggio Emilia and look forward to many years with this company.


I have been associated with Reggio Emilia since the past 3.5 years. The company runs on trust and transparency and this provides a feeling of mutual respect for everyone in the company, regardless of their position or qualification. There is an open-door policy that makes me feel like I can express any concerns I have and I know they will be heard and considered. The team-building exercises we do each month also really help to connect us as a company so we are a team working towards the same goal. 

The culture at Reggio Emilia is by far the greatest asset one can think of! You can tell that they truly care about the happiness of their employees. It's a really relaxed and calm environment, even though the work we do can be fast-paced. I don't dread coming into work on Monday mornings and the managers are extremely patient and understanding.   This company is just like my family! The Owners are so humble who take care of their employees at all times. Everyone is so kind and wants to help you succeed. I never felt uncomfortable asking for any sort of help. The employee benefits from the Evolve program are just amazing. The company is truly built on great principles and values and they stand by them.  

Management is humble, kind, and approachable. They take a special interest in who you are and what you want out of your job.

The families and children are amazing but boy oh boy do the management team kill it for the whole place. The ‘evolve’ program as a load of lies and the only thing that is covered is team outings that you get bullied into going. I found it was not a nice or supportive work place, Too much paper work and everything you just found out about needed to be done yesterday. They hardly talk about positives and really give it to you for simple mistakes. You’re not treated or respected as another human being at all, a lot of over time unpaid for, monthly meetings outside of work hours that are unpaid for but try and say because there’s half days Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve it’s accounted for. They also discriminate against all special needs (try and run these children out of the centre because they’re ‘too hard’ and they don’t hire male educators. Waste of my life working here and I’m glad I could get out and move on. 

I have never worked at a worse centre (Cowper St Parramatta)
- constantly out of ratio ( too many children not enough staff
- no break covers (you will be made to illegally sign out of the room and say that there is adequate supervision when there is not)
- Overtime: they pay you a minimum of 15 minutes overtime so if you stay back 14 minutes you will not get paid ( this happens every day) and over time is not time and a half not double just your regular hourly rate
- Starting early: again they will ask you to do overtime and start early to cover ratios but if you don’t work 15 minutes you will not get paid for it. So you can start early and stay back late 10 minutes every day meaning your total overtime you did was 100 minutes and you will see none of it!

A typical day involved managing high workloads while navigating unclear expectations and inconsistent communication from management. While the work itself can be meaningful, the environment made it difficult to feel psychologically safe or supported. I learned the importance of professional boundaries and documentation in the workplace. Management often relied on suspicion rather than open dialogue, which contributed to a culture of stress and fear. The hardest part of the job was working under constant scrutiny and the feeling that trust was lacking. The most enjoyable part was supporting children and collaborating with frontline colleagues, despite the broader workplace challenges.

This centre chased any desire to pursue a career in childcare away from me. Management snapped orders at us, yet expected us to keep a professional and positive manner. Overworked, stressed workers with a high turnover meant we worked in a state of perpetual disorganisation. Ratios were only considered at the end of the day, leaving educational leaders scrambling every afternoon. Allergy plans were not checked so no medication listed for children with allergies.

Owners refused to spend any money on existing centres yet continued to open new ones. Not enough cots for children to sleep on. Toilets constantly out of working order, only one air vent working in our room. Constantly advocating for basic WHS conditions for both staff and children. 

The most enjoyable part of the job is spending time with the children and their families. The work place culture is not easy to main as there is quite an amount of staff turnover. The parents are very kind to staff and the children created great bonds with their educators. Management could be better and care more about their staff members. A typical day at work consists of taking care of the children and ensuring their health and safety as well as, completing set tasks such as set activities, documentation and overall maintenance and cleanliness of the rooms and outdoor areas. Educators are required to do all the cleaning in the centre, including cleaning the offices, the kitchen, the front desks, the entrance and the foyers as well as the staff room and the toilets.

This was one of the most distressing workplaces I have experienced. Staff were consistently overworked, unsupported, and treated as disposable rather than valued professionals.

There appeared to be ongoing issues with staffing levels, compliance pressures, and a culture of fear rather than collaboration. Educators were often placed in difficult situations without adequate support, which ultimately impacts both staff wellbeing and the quality of care provided to children.

I strongly encourage prospective employees and families to ask detailed questions about staff retention, ratio management, and workplace culture before making a decision.

I have had different experiences in a range of centres across Sydney. This has to be one of the worst centre I’ve ever worked at. The cowper st one is horrendous! 
They basically care more about cleaning then actual job.
Overtime Process was not properly explained and even mentioned. Basically you get no overtime.
During the afternoons it is too crazy and not Enougj educators so we always have to stay back.
Management thrive on complains so they can talk down on educators. 
The centre has huge potential but is wasted due to egoistic management.
