Firstly in the morning, to come into the veterinary practice, check all the animals and start doing the hospital rounds; feeding, medicating, walking and cleaning out their bedding. Then setting up the surgery room and treatment rooms, for the day's surgery. Admissions would start from 9 am, where we would assess the animal's health, weigh them and then start drawing up the drugs required for those animals.
Surgery would start after all the animals had been admitted and drugs prepared for the surgeries. It was never a set time for surgeries to finish, sometimes we'd have surgeries right up until end of day, or because we were also a shelter environment we would have to tend to our own shelter animals as well. There would be a large variety of jobs to do, from answering phones, helping clients with their enquiries over the phone and face to face. Being the Veterinarian's assistant, and assisting with surgeries and preparing for the next case, cleaning the instruments after the surgery and sterilising them. Washing, to doing orders to keep our drugs stock up to date.
About 4 in the afternoon we would do our hospital rounds again, and do the afternoon cleaning if surgeries were finished, do the end of day banking and preparing surgery sheets for the next days list.

I learned a diverse range of new skills, and became a much better nurse through the cases I saw and learned from my senior Veterinarian, and always was learning on the job, which is very rewarding.

I had a very good working relationship with my co - workers, and we worked well as a team and got the job done. When we had a stressful and difficult day, due to cases we saw, we would always be there to support each other.

I adapted quickly to the working environment and the flow of the workplace. I am fast to learn new skills and are able to put them to use immediately.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The most stressful part is wanting to do everything perfectly, especially when helping others. But it also motivates me to learn and grow in my role.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
A typical day at the company involves collaborating with the team, supporting others, and completing tasks that contribute to the organization’s goals. I enjoy the balance between structured duties and opportunities to learn new skills throughout the day.

I work in the RSPCA Call Centre, this entails taking cruelty complaints which are typed live onto a computer system, all information must be typed correctly and accurately as if a case goes to court this document may be entered as evidence. Also all gerneral enquires about any part of the RSPCA and about the RSPCA Branches throughout NSW.
In addittion to this I also do basic data entry work for the Donation Depatment when they become busy during their Campagines, eg. cup cake day, million paws walk.
I find the management easy to work for and very understanding of the stressfull work that is carried out in the Call Centre.
I pride myself in being able to have a great working relation with my co-workers and have never had any trouble working as part of a team.
The hardest part of this job is taking the cruelty complaints as they can become very horrific, but the best part is when the animal in question is rescued. This is very rewarding.

Well a day volunteering at the RSPCA varies wildly on what section you choose to work in for that day. So far I've only worked with the dogs and it is amazing, we'll move the dogs from their kennels to the yards or take them on walks while other volunteers clean the kennels. Some of the staff are quite harsh and stern but they all have hearts of gold.

The hardest part of being there is seeing all the animals that need homes and not being able to take them all home with you, sometimes they will have to put an animal down if there is no other option and even though its horrible it might be the best option so that is definitely the hardest part.

The most enjoyable part is being able to spend some time with the animals and dogs, to take them on walks and show them that there are people that love them and to hopefully get them adopted into a loving family.

I have only been there for a little bit but volunteering at the RSPCA has changed my life already.

A normal day at work consists of cleaning out the dog pens and making sure that they have clean water and food. Myself and other volunteers are then responsible for walking each dog individually to ensure they get enough exercise for the day. Working with animals, particularly some that are not used to their environment can prove challenging at times. This requires well-developed communication skills and the ability to work well with others in order to complete set tasks in a timely and diligent manner. My co-workers are mostly all like minded people and we are able to work well together. The hardest part of my job is unfortunately when animals have to be put to sleep due to medical conditions that cannot be avoided. However, my job is rewarding as I feel I am making a positive difference to the life of each animal I interact with

Great people to work with.  Hard working and love animals.  Long days, can get dirty but seeing the animals get new loving homes is worth it.  The hardest part of the job is seeing some dogs stay at the shelter for a long time through no fault of their own.  A typical day would be cleaning kennels and cat cages, providing fresh food and water twice daily, medicating any sick animals as directed by the veterinarian, taking animals for vet checks when necessary.  Working with volunteers who assist with dog walking and cleaning of cat cages.  Working with animals is fairly low paid, however, the rewards come from the wonderful animals we care for, lost and abandoned animals still have so much love to give and no amount of money can buy that kind of job satisfaction.

I worked in a very small team of people who all had one goal in common, to make the lives of the animals in their care a loving and trusting one.  I had a wonderful, co-operative and cohesive relationship with all of my colleagues.  The position was very rewarding in that we saw animals go from being in a neglected and abused state where they were fearful and timid to being playful, loving and healthy again.  To see them move on to the facility where they had the chance to be adopted and start a new chapter in their lives was what we all strove for and is what make the job so worthwhile.

Its so nice to work for an Organisation that raises funds to prevent cruelty to our animals all creatures great and small!!
In the Op Shop we have a variety of ages, cultures, experience and yes we do have some guys!
There are plenty of roles and jobs to do and most volunteers end up being able to rotate into the role that is most needed on the day.
Punctuality is important as is dress- closed in shoes and respectable attire is expected (no shorts, thongs, singlets etc)
Everyone is invited to contribute their ideas for store presentation, increasing sales ideas and streamlining any other processes within the Op Shop environment.

My work with the RSPCA was in a voluntary role only.  was happy to give my time to this organisation whilst caring for young children at home however it was time consuming when I returned to the workforce.
In a rural area we do not have a shelter so my first work with the RSPCA was as a carer for dogs, and then cats. This was a great way for my family to enjoy the benefits of pet ownership without the cost. Our local branch was like a family and all worked together to ensure re-homing of the animals was the priority. I the moved into and Education Officers role (again voluntary) which entailed me visiting local primary schools and educating them on how to approach an unfamiliar animal (usually dog).

You truly have to be a strong individual to work for this company. The only reason I pushed through is for the animals sake. The highest management is terrible, especially the team who work in the animal behaviour side of things, they think they can walk all over basic animal attendants and not give them any respect but expect full respect and worship from them regardless. 
Don’t get me wrong there are good days and some good staff, and that is what keeps you holding on. 
Very time consuming job which leaves very little time for outside interests on top of the fact you’re constantly burnt out and don’t have the mental or physical energy to do anything in your free time. 
If you want to work with animals I don’t recommend this company.
