**Review of Queensland Ambulance Service**

The Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) is plagued by a very toxic culture that affects everyone from frontline staff to station managers. It operates as a game of protectionism, where personal connections dictate career advancement, often at the expense of fairness and merit.

Employees face significant pressure to disclose personal information, leading to psychological distress and potential career setbacks. This environment fosters gossip and mistrust, while those perpetuating the toxic culture remain shielded and endorsed by the organization.

Overtime and roster changes are frequently manipulated by station managers in favor of friends, undermining transparency. Additionally, work-life balance is often disregarded, contributing to employee burnout. Senior officers are pushed out to make way for less experienced juniors, resulting in a workforce with many frontline staff having under two years of experience rapidly ascending to management roles through power play. This compromises leadership quality and team cohesion.

Until QAS confronts these systemic issues, it will struggle to create a supportive workplace, ultimately hindering its ability to effectively serve the community.

For a organisation that is supposedly caring for the community it doesn’t do its job - They look after the entitled newbies they have lost the caring for patients attitude but the poor performers in the organisation get rewarded and the hard workers No appreciation - when people don’t get a emergency response, die waiting for a ambulance to arrive it’s poor management that allows this to happen - people suffer more because of the inadequacy of the organisation 

Down side is the toxicity within the service - Covert and manipulative group culture is encouraged by oic/acting oic, pso and other officers. There is very little confidentiality, professionalism, respect or trust within the service. There is a great deal of gossiping, lying, disrespect, manipulation, and breaches to the code of conduct and privacy.

The toxic culture is covered up and manipulated to protect those creating the problem. There have been no investigations or repercussions, instead this type of behavior is rewarded. No support from station management upwards, creating a hostile and unsafe work environment.

Given that it was my dream job, it was the best job that I have ever had, saying this though, QAS management and HR does make the job hard for their employees.  I felt largely unsupported, there is a blame culture and it is obvious that they don’t trust, respect or truly care for even their longest serving and extremely experienced paramedics.  There is bullying that happens at QAS and it is can even come from management heavies.  This is disappointing because it was such an awesome job and I was really good at it.  I really loved it but management just don’t back their staff and they make things harder in the job than they need to be. 

Its all about being under 30, coming to work hungover, putting down your fellow colleagues & getting ahead. No more mateship or comradery, or having each other's back, patient care and confidentiality don't exist. OIC's use the position to push through there mates on station and cover up for them, while pushing others under the bus. It's rife with bullying, and young individuals who think they are entitled with no life experience. Nothing gets done by management, segregation is the norm now. All this while you do long hours away from family, work a shift then have to go on call, take long drives for hours as a solo officer either drive at night or whilst fatigued.

Great job which can be rewarding, however movement between positions and stations has alot to do with who you know.
There's alot of bullying within the service which can push you to the point of putting a noose around your neck (and I mean literally). If your not liked then groups of officers including oic, pso, etc will band together and make it very isolating at station, it will be made worse when the issue is manipulated to cover each other. There are no investigations or repricussions for this type of behaviour. 
There is no confidentiality, professionalism, respect or trust within the service, there is alot of gossip, lying, manipulation and disrespect amongst officers and through to management. 
Best advice is watch your back.

This company is plagued by nepotism and favoritism, where promotions and opportunities are handed out based on relationships rather than merit. Managers belittle their subordinates, creating a toxic work environment that stifles growth and learning. Career development is hindered by the lack of support and guidance from upper management. Unprofessional behaviors are protected, leading to a culture of fear and distrust among employees. Racial discrimination is also a significant issue, further exacerbating the toxic atmosphere within the organization. Overall, this company is a hostile place to work, where employees' well-being and professional growth are severely compromised.

The better you are at psychological manipulation, playing the system, being dishonest, and ticking the political power boxes, the higher you go in the organisation. The more power you have, the better the position to influence the situation and blacklist career development of individuals, and provide opportunities for others. 
Working for QAS is about the political face the public sees and hiding what really goes on. Its about PR!!!

I found Queensland ambulance service A joy to work for very family friendly. Lots of people there to help you with anything. I felt so proud and this made me give them 110 % I became very loyal and i can honesty say this was the best job I have ever had. Because it gave me the opportunity to give back to my community. But the money was a bit on the low side. 

Pre-start vehicle, stock and drug checks. Availability to attend any emergency and non emergent call out to the public. Attendance at a multitude of various accidents and emergency situations. Just pick any situation out of your mind, and I'd say I've probably attended to it in the past.
I learnt a lot about people, management, co-workers and the public.
Hardest part of the job was dealing with loss of children/babies.
Most enjoyable part was attending to emergencies, the team work of QAS,QFRS and QPS combined to deliver the best possible outcome for the patient/s.
