I have always loved books so having the opportunity to work with others who loved them just as much and help those who needed it was truly amazing.  I learned about sales for books in a market that is struggling in the digital age.  All of my coworkers were fantastic and I got along with all of them so well.  The hardest part of the job, however, was lifting the boxes the books were delivered in.  They sometimes weighed close to 20kg and they were delivered in bulk.
The most enjoyable part of the job was giving recommendations to people that they actually liked and ended up taking.

Working at QBD was one of the most amazing job positions I could have had. I have a massive passion for books and being in a workplace where you can recommend what you've read to people as well as debate and discuss aspects of literature is a fantastic way to spend your day at work. As well as this the day will keep you busy with having to process stock, ensure that presentation is pristine and always trying new ways to present books. In store management is fantastic as they constantly take the time to discuss you as an employee and what you're doing right and wrong and work on ways to constantly develop your skills.

Upper management expected staff move heaven and earth on a shoestring budget. Lack of staff support and training. Toxic environment, promoting poor workers who toed company lines and bullying those who spoke out against staff underpayments and poor treatment of staff. Unsafe physical and mental work environment. No job security. Your position is purely sales driven, your must convice customers to buy product and loyalty programs even if they don’t want it and except the abuse from management when people don’t buy it. 

A typical day at work would consist of setting up shop in the morning, then throughout the day it would stocking books, serving customers, taking orders and domestic chores. It was a very enjoyable environment with different personalities of similar interests in books.

A typical day would involve serving customers and packing away stock. The team were helpful and easy going, and the managers, including the regional manager, were really cool and listened to you.

At QBD I had the best time at work, always love going into work as it is stress free but of course there will be difficulties but we will solve them as a team and individual. The management and co-workers are amazing, they make you feel like you are just at home.QBD is by far the best job as of the people you are working with.

Very enjoyable setting and experience.
Customer service was always interesting and one would get pride out of properly assisting a customer.
Downside is definitely their inability to share work during the rosters, which leads to competent workers sometimes going weeks without shifts with poor excuses.

I was very happy working with QBD The Bookshop. I enjoyed working with everyone and my managers were helpful and easy to talk to. Unfortunately I was let go because there were not enough hours for me after Christmas.

Enjoyed talking & recommending books to customers.
The work load was full on & the stock room was a safety hazard,especially  around christmas.
Upper management & head office don't care for their staff.
You could hurt yourself  & they stuff you up.
They use & abuse you.

it was a simple and clear on what to do, at times i would just zone out without realizing and mess up in work just because it was simple and clear.

co-works were great to chat with, whilst some were just not so enjoyable.
