Each day is different at work - I love that no two days seem the same. On a usual given day, we’d start our shift, set the environments to be super fun and inviting, then when the children arrive it’s straight into engaging with the kids and enjoying play - that’s simply it! I love that work doesn’t feel like ‘work’, it’s exciting and challenging at the same time - I learn something new from the kids every day! The company make it easy to complete daily tasks with lots of support from the management team, who are very hands on and guide you through and clearly set the expectations. My most favourite part of the job is school holidays - the excursions are definitely the highlight! It is definitely a job that I will forever remember as a favourite. 

I worked here for a few years, I loved the team I worked with however management on the other hand, was few and far between. Sometimes you'd get a great manager but then the company would move them to another area or they would move on. Most of the time they would upskill within the company rather than hire more staff. Which is great except there wasn't alot of training for the upkilling. You'd just be thrown in the deep end. I saw many people including myself put years of their life into PCYC sometimes even decades! But PCYC never fought to keep their employees...it's almost like once you planted the seed that you aren't happy, they discarded you. I guess at the end of the day you were just a number.

Work life balance with the hours

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Lack of resources, cleanliness is terrible, maintenance is extremely below standard and most staff don’t supervise properly.  

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Staff are either highly strung or unreliable  with low morale because of lack of management cooperation.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Lack of assistance from others and constant cleanliness and building issues.

Quiet most of the time. I learned about their facilities and background of their organisation. Using a bit of marketing skills that I learned from my university subjects to the best of my ability. 

Being it as a work placement as part of my university course, it was hard to find an organisation to take me in for the summer semester period (November to February), so there was a delay in my studies. My mentor was helpful and giving me guidance to assist in my tasks.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Nothing, they acted fake and the job stated they wanted a youth worker but really wanted someone who was more of a school teacher.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
That they were all fake and would lie about you if you didn't fit into the cool kid groups that they have inside the organization.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Toxic, uncomfortable, uncooperative 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Work sleep repeat for almost minimum wage

Management have a lack of knowledge when it comes to Laws & Regs and EBA. Lack of support, no flexibility, no negotiation and no respect. Does not listen to the SM's advise on service operations. Management make decisions that are detrimental to the service and children. Treat long time employees like liabilities not assets. No recognition for achievements, belittled in front of co workers and if you stand up for yourself management will ridicule you for every little thing as a punishment. 

Would start my shift by marking my role then would head over to my activity for the day.  Have lunch with the kids and would monitor they're doing the right thing till lunch time was over and the next activity would be started. Ended the day with some free time or games room as the kids would head home we'd start cleaning up & preparing for the next day.
All co-workers we're awesome to work with and helpful.
I learned a lot of myself working this job and a lot about children and their behaviors.

First there is no hard part to the job as I enjoy working with people and overseeing their personal development. A typical day entails checking and cleaning the equipment supervising clients on training schedules and techniques and writing out programs for existing clients and new starters and testing potential Police Recruits on their fitness levels
Once a week I drive the after School Bus.

With every company they have highs and lows however PCYC have more highs than lows. 
More support for the OSHC environments and their for staff would be more beneficial. Behaviours of children are becoming more and more problematic, however this is happening all over the country, but more support and funding to support this higher demand is needed. 
PCYC  are improving on their culture and I enjoy coming into my workplace. 

Great place to work, something different every day, a chance to give back to the community and help children grow.
The youth programs are a great way for kids to relate to each other and learn social and personal skills. It is very rewarding to see the at risk kids completely change their lives and give back to the organisation that helps them.
