Started as part time, was offered full time employment when the centre picked up a bit and I needed more hours which was fantastic. I started getting bored and struggling day to day as it was so quiet and I was working with 1 person everyday. I was offered a transfer to a busier centre and couldn't be happier. The days are busier and more enjoyable. The company has been extremely accommodating and I have seen other staff who have been promoted and recognised for their efforts.
The only thing I struggle with is dealing with angry and aggressive customers which unfortunately happens often, but we always have back up from management and head office and I have never seen a case of an angry customer who is in the right. People who need storage are often at stressful points in their life (moving etc) so this is to be expected, but most customers are thankful for the service and impressed with the quality.
 The support is incomparable at this company for all staff. There are plenty of opportunities for incentives and advancement.
Overall, the best company I've worked for. 


This company starts well for you but quickly de-evolves into micro management. There are two groups,  the centre teams and then everyone above you. If you bring any concerns regarding a member of the state team or operations team that has been inappropriate HR plays the he said/she said card but when the state team make a complaint against you it is considered gospel that they are right. A culture that has made most team members NOT want to come to work. You are paid as minimum wage as can be and if you want to jump into a role further up the ladder there is only one available that would give you a better pay level. You can be a multi-site manager or operational support but they don't pay any extra for this, they just create the role to make you take more work on and feel that you are more important than you are to them.

I learnt to deal with face-to-face customers, from a sales perspective. I learnt a lot with arrears calls and overall management.
Co-Workers weren't as supportive and not as much communication involved as there should have been, to make the office environment more productive and efficient.

The hardest part of the job was finding duties to do ! As there was always something to do, there were other people that had already completed the duty. Making the day slow and dragged on a bit.

The most enjoyable part was face-to-face customer experience, where you would build a customer rapport and get to know the customer at a professional level still. It was always nice to see how things were travelling for them if they were regulars.

Just save your time, happiness, and overall sanity, and look elsewhere, maybe even another storage facility as National has NOTHING regulated. 
Management are rude, not caring and if you don't fit in "this space" they'll definitely make you feel like an outsider. 
This role and what is expected from you is outright confusing.
9-hour days but expected to come in an hour early on Monday & Friday for lock checks making it 10 hours but no extra pay. Required to drive out to centre after-hours in case of an incident, with no extra pay. Changing frameworks and rolling out the changes THAT DAY and the whole nation is expected to just go with it. I've never met HR in person, but I've never heard good things about all departments in that sector. The contact centre is lovely, that's literally it.


First day i knew i should never have taken the job. Management didn't know how to train me. I sat there for 9 hours doing nothing. Not enough training and then you are on your own. 
You work alone for long days, take the phone home and answer calls with no pay all night long.
Also your $25 per hour you receive - your super comes out of it. So it then goes down to around $21/$22 per hour. You also get the same hourly rate for public holidays and weekends too.
You are a sales rep, a cleaner and a handy man too!
Sales consultants do all the work and managers get the bonuses!!!!

While I genuinely enjoyed the role and developing strong partnerships, the culture at Head Office—shaped by cliques, favouritism, inconsistent standards and a heavy mental load paired with low pay—made it an environment where it was difficult to feel included or valued.

Has some pretty bad reviews but I’ve found national storage to be a delight to work for. Management is helpful and supportive. They care for employees and will work around you. Everyone I have met is lovely and helpful. The attitude you bring reflects back. Having no previous experience with storage the training provided was key. After hours mobile is no longer a thing. You are on a salary as a center manager so don’t get overtime but your really not staying over much half hour tops

Bad pay, bad culture, and an even worse manager with bullying tendencies. You’re merely a number at this company, don’t expect to be treated like a human being at all. If you have one bad day you’re treated like trash regardless of prior performance which creates a uncomfortable and unhealthy environment to be in, but with no one to go to to seek help for this so just don’t bother.

Extremely low pay for what is expected of you. If you are not friends with the state management team then you are always on the outer with staff at your center and your rostered day's off. No opportunity for advancement unless you are good at sucking up to management. Have to deal with very abusive customers on a daily basis and most of the time you are working alone and are told not to turn these types of customers away.

Left alone to tackle many tasks and customers.From day 1 I knew I made a mistake working there.Taking home the work phone to answer calls after hours without getting paid for it.
You work at different centres left by yourself after minimal training.
Your a sales person cleaner janitor etc...
There is nothing I liked about National Storage i would think twice before working there.
