the money is well above average and better again once a senior constable level is attained after 5 years.
lots of options to move around to different sectors but usually a tenure of 3-4 years applies with each move.
The people are hit and miss, lots of great friendships to develop but there are also some very toxic and malicious senior staff.
you need to know your workplace agreements back to front.
the accountability and monitoring is getting worse, the freestyle firm off policing is being replaced with set operations, taskings and kpi driven infringement, person searches and rbt.
the job can go from a very relaxing and slow mode to very busy quickly.
sometimes being kept busy for no reason by management.
Now that the police are very understaffed the work load is distributed among the remaining police.
shift work will kill you slowly, not much care for work life balance but with 12hr shifts you essentially are working 3 days per week with a 4 on 6off rotating roster.
Expect to most likely develop PTSD within 5 years, and certainly develop PTSD within 10 years.
Exposure to the most gruesome events are likely, if you break the law while enforcing it expect to be criminally charged with a presumption of guilt by management. 
Surviving this role involves a lot of luck and legal Knowledge to justify every action but the troops will help you do that. Management will on occasion ask you to do illegal processes like person/vehicle searches so you need to know when to say no with risk of becoming a target. 
If you're a corporate gangster you will survive just fine. 



Initially I commenced my career in the insurance industry working in both administration and as an assistant underwriter. I then joined the NSW Police Force where I have worked for the previous 9.5 years. While in the police, I initially worked as a general duties constable before moving into criminal investigations for the previous 4.5 years attaining the rank of Detective Senior Constable. Policing has provided me with a multitude of skills that I can confidently adapt to any new working environment. Such skills include, ability to meet deadlines (due to writing court reports, briefs of evidence), ability to prioritise workload due to competing work demands and crises. I have effective communication skills both written and verbal, strong analytical skills, excellent assessment skills. I have worked in diverse environments dealing with people from all walks of life. This has enabled me to communicate effectively and provide excellent customer service. 
I have a very good relationship with my peers and am regarded by senior management. I do have references to provide which outline this. 
The hardest part of my job would be the highly stressful and sometimes unpredictable situations however this can make it a very challenging and rewarding career. 
I am moving to the UK on a working visa until Sept 2016 and am hoping to find a temporary job in either administration, investigations or similar.

A typical day at work would be to data entry 100 applications of Criminal Records Check  into the system to meet the organisations objectives, and at the same time answering phone calls enquiries from the public and Police Officers. I would also be handling complaints and solving them at the same time. Liaising with relevant stakeholders including eternal agencies to verify information and ensure the accuracy of data.

I've learned to be enthusiastic and result driven, team focus and absolute commitment to delivering best in class. 

My natural ability to be a resourceful team player who forges good friendship with co-workers and I consider myself to be well respected by those around me. Strengths I possess include building trusting relationship, cultural sensivity and the ability to build rapport with a diverse workforce particularly in multicultural settings.
I've have also manage and maintain the smooth running of a team of 15 in completing our daily tasks. Our innovative and dynamic team are committed to providing the highest level of service and support to our clients and stakeholders. A great customer experience is our highest priority. 

The most enjoyable part of the job is persevering  to achieve goals, even in the face of obstacles, coping setbacks and staying calm under pressure, therefore I don't accept negative mind-set. The job is always challenging and rewarding.

Fantastic job, extremely challenging and extremely tough but the rewards are amazing. Helping out women in domestics, kids in distress, even seniors crossing the road make it feel like you're making a difference even if it's a small one in people's lives. I have to say though if you're reading this, I've seen LOTS of 18-21 year olds enter this job, and please it is not for the faint of heart or young teenagers. You will see the darkest side of society and sadly not all teenagers have the brain maturity to see that just yet. Lots of new under 25 young probies are very mouthy, refuse to do jobs and just can't handle domestics (as they've been heavily shetered at home by mum and dad). I've seen kids torn to shreds at pubs when confronting a 120kg drunk and they have no clue as they have no real world experience beyond sitting at the footy field after Science class. Go do something else, enjoy life before you see the true evil side of the world. I strongly recommend working in a customer service job for at least 3 years before attempting this job otherwise you'll be torn in half within your first 3 months when you are given the most rubbish and dangerous jobs as a probie, and you will want out, believe me I've seen 5 out of 6 leave within weeks of joining the station!

What is the best part of working at the company?
I  worked with NSW Police for a long time, I  left a job I loved "somebody" changed the rules/regulations and then could not advise as to what they wanted.  The last words in my head was "you do not know what you are doing".  How with no explanation /procedures.  They lost 2 of us experienced operators.   I also had to fight for any leaving certificates etc and was framed in a $2.00 frame for my certificate which I had reframed at my own expense.  After all my years of service I thought a proper farewell was in the wings lol.   Nope

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Changes to the role that was not made clear, the contractors employed to assist were not employed to train but to install.  "they" purchased a beer budget program wanted the champagne package

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Was bad when I left, and after I left I heard may managers were removed etc.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Stressful when I worked there, felt small with contractors even laughing at you, when asking a legit question.  Even had them spreading rumours about your team which led to the 2 of us leaving.

The job is stressful at times but for the most part lots of fun. Training takes forever and you are treated as an outsider in the beginning but once the other employees are comfortable with you they're like a second family to banter with while you work together. Good support system from employees on the same rank but more senior management is hit or miss. Some managers are awesome, others make you wonder who is in charge of appointing people to leadership positions. The work definitely makes you feel like you're making a difference -- helping police in the field catch dirt bags and save lives. Pay is reasonable especially if you're able to do overtime. You get a decent amount of days off too. Downsides are the hours: 12 hour shifts take a toll on you after a while. You also come to learn how annoying the general public can be with their incessant complaints about one another. There's a small bit of tension between different centres: each one has their own way of doing things and thinks the others are stupid. Makes for an interesting work place all together. No day is the same. 

Shift work assisted in ensuring a good balance between work and life. This employment provided a very well structured team with very good management system.  It provided many opportunities for employees to improve their rank through education and training.  Many opportunities available to change your career path within the Police Force.
Very good salary provided with great employment security.
The police ensured all employees felt like a part of a team while also feeling they were able to self manage their careers.  Employees encouraged to associate and fit in with others including unrelated police events including sports days.  
Most enjoyable aspects were the close connection between team members and the high job satisfaction.
Hardest part of the job were very stressful events/jobs including death.

Would not recommend joining to anyone! 
The only positive is the friendships made as they become your family. Were to start with negatives...
When you become a "nuisance" and "vocal" for standing up for yourself and what's wrong, you become a problem and are quickly shunned by senior management. There are still old, crusty dinosaurs (putting it nicely) that are set in their ways with how they handle their staff. It's all about who you know, not what you know hence why progressing is extremely difficult. Be prepared to be trampled on and felt like you are just a number. 
You will be exposed to horrific, highly stressful incidents that stay with you every day for the rest of your life.
Before considering a job in this organization, go and talk to your local police. If I could go back, I would not have joined. 
15 years of service in General Duties. 

I participated in various roles within the NSWPF, each with their own triumphs and educational values.

I learnt how to better deal with people by utilising effective communication, both public and colleague.

As with any occupation you have people with good and valuable attributes and those who don't. I found that I have the ability to get along with anyone and am able to create a positive working environment which in turn effected productivity for the better.

The hardest part of the job would have to be the uncertainty that you would return home uninjured. Every shift was a danger and a risk.

The most enjoyable part of the job was the ability to problem solve on my feet and investigate things that involved a number of stakeholders.

Unless you are high up in management you are just pawns to the business managers and those in management positions. There is zero care factor over a persons well being or working and life balance. Too many power drunk individuals running the administrative side of things.

For anyone who was on a temporary contract, I did not see a single person finish their contract, especially those who were not in the "it" groups. Job stability is horrid for admin staff. I would advise against anyone signing up for a temporary role with NSW Police.

Lots of gossip and talking about officers behind their backs and lots of schoolyard behaviours. Other than getting a good salary for what you do, there is no other positive about working at this organisation from an administrative perspective.
