I found working for McCosker Contracting very fulfilling and enjoyable.

 Daily events included but not limited to:    

* Early starts for "pre-start" meeting and work force assessment (random D & A's) positive and enjoyable. Formed a trust bond between workers, supervision and management.

*  Work site and safety inspections, incident investigations(rare).

* McCosker Contracting Inductions.

* Operator assessments for Verification of Competency(V.O.C.) including Legislative compliance, general knowledge assessment(theory) and operator skill set(practical).

* Documentation and storing of results for auditing purposes.

* Researching of A.S.Q.A. or other guidelines and Unit Descriptors to comply with various training and assessment procedures.

* Delivery of above training procedures in accordance with guidelines and descriptors in either a class room environment or onsite as per identified procedure( usually both).   

* I improved my classroom delivery of training, interaction and management skills, and learned a lot about W.H.S. compliance and implementation. Also improved my computer operating skill set. 

* Over all management of McCosker Contracting was very good but pockets of resistance to progress  in some divisions of workforce.

* In my capacity of Trainer and Assessor/ Safety Adviser I needed to tread a very "fine line" between a wide variety of workers and management. As such it was difficult to maintain a positive opinion of my value within  the company. 

* Having a position that allowed me to interact with both the "hands on" workers and the management meant a lot to me as I came from the "ground" and still enjoy the "feel" of a construction site and seeing something "grow" beyond frustrations and  setbacks. I must admit that there were times when I would have preferred to be the "operator" which can be easier and with much less responsibility.

how to work in a workforce of over 200+ employees on the same work site, i learned how to approach every activity in a highly safe manna and how safety is the first key step in approaching any new or old task given at hand.

my co-workers work at a high level of safety and productivity allowing any task no matter how great or small a safe and enjoyable experience.

the hardest part of my job was the large scale of work hours given each week which overall took a large toll on me personally in every aspect like physically & mentally etc.

i must say that the most enjoyable part of my experience would have to be the large amount of great hard working people i had the pleasure of learning/working with over my 2+ years with the company

It has been so healing to work for a company that genuinely values and respects every single one of their employees. The training and support they provide is incredible and that of which I personally have not experienced or been offered elsewhere. 

Management is considerate, fair, and extremely easy to get along with. In my experience there is an open door policy for all concerns and questions. 

I am genuinely impressed and feel proud to work for McCoskers - I hope I am here for a long time to come.

The lack of embracing efficiency and change

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Work environment - fast paced and always having to be on your toes
Culture - not great if you are not in the inner circle of trust

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Always busy and trying to improve processes and find efficiencies

Preparing and communicating with all sub-contractors, vendors. Organising wide scope of works from preparing meetings, minutes, agendas for Project Manager to logistics of materials, suppliers and heavy equipment transfer to Curtis Island via barge

operating machinery
envoirmental impact building gas plants on island and procautions put into place
senior staff are all well expierenced
great bunch of blokes and woman
getting a car park
everthing about the job is enjoyable to getting on boat and getting of boat in afternoon

Long days, poor pay unless your in the purple circle. Learned nothing and felt like depressed every day I had to go there. Watch your back there are back stabbers everywhere.

Really enjoyed working for the company until change of management and sadly I chose to leave as a result.
Senior management really cared about their employees, was difficult to fit in.

I had learnt most of what i know now from the people in this company. as i had been working for them for over 13 years and would work for them again if asked to.
great work/life balance.

good benefits but toxic work environment
and you’ll be surprised one day they don’t like you anymore like you’re not doing any good for the company. so easy for them to replace an employee and it’s all about connections there.
