MAX Employment

I worked within Max Employment Offices as a Health Services Officer providing health services to clients to assist with their return to work. 
During my employment I worked in several states. My initial experience was brilliant, my Manager at the time was very supportive and helpful even though located in another state, and often we were flown to meet up with other HSOs in our region for professional development and team development, which really negated working in isolation from the rest of your health team.  The Employment staff were also friendly and supportive and we worked together to meet out kpi's, it was the staff that made the work enjoyable as often some clients were very difficult. The Employement staff were treated like poo though and some were close to having break downs due to the stress put on them. 
My experience  was very different  after transfering to another region in another state, where Management were not supportive and used passive aggressive bullying tactics rather than being solutions focused to help you succeed.  KPIs and HSO Services changed with the new contract which was stressful because some KPIS were outside of your control I.e getting referrals from the employment staff became more difficult, and the way in which some health services would be offered changed making the services your could provide limited or harder for a client to access. I.e services that were your bread and butter were discontinued or could only be accessed once the client was in work (and then at work so not able to access the service - figure that one out?). 
Originally this job was "the best job ever", because I loved the people I worked with, was supported to develop my professional skills and the income was decent however between regions the workplace culture was so different, employement staff were so busy that no matter what you did to try and help them they never had time to make health referrals so meeting your 6 a day target often didn't happen, and often referrals for groups were made at the last minute because their manager told them to find people to put into the group, however some referrals were unsuitable and just to fill a chair - makes it hard to engage a person when the referral is inappropriate. 
Towards the end, leaving was the best thing I ever did. Although my last manager was a Pyschologist, she triggered anxiety in me and would have a go at me every time I saw her, pretty much telling me I had to make things happen without providing any real solutions on how I could achieve this when what she wanted me to have an effect on was often out of my control.
After over 3 years working for the company I only lasted 3 1/2 months in my new region before I couldn't take it anymore. Leaving was the best thing I ever did.

It is a good outcome for all jobseekers that Max Employment lost their contract to deliver the new Job Active service. This company is wholly focused on profit and ridiculously unattainable KPIs. There is an American style obsession with KPIs and pegging staff and different sites against each other. It is soul destroying for staff that actually want to help people find jobs. This organisation spends as little as possible on the unemployed and those they are supporting in ongoing employment, in order to deliver return on investment to their shareholders. Managers micro manage every aspect of staffs day. If you dare to ask for support for the impossibly high case loads and unrealistic expectations then you are given passive aggressive advice about how you will need to learn strategies to manage your time better and how you need to have better boundaries when you are providing service to job seekers i.e. in order for Max Employment managers to get their bonuses and move up the corporate structure is for staff to deliver little to no actual useful supports to the unemployed or DES participants. The operating model for Max Employment in Job Active and DES is to have extremely high case loads and work staff to burn out. Turnover is high and this is further detrimental to job seekers. It is obviously profitable for Max Employment to have jobseekers in this program long term. Managers at Max Employment are across the board bullies and ultra competitive. This company will squeeze the life out of you and this will happen in a very short space of time. The onboarding training is excellent but once you start working and have a caseload, you will then come to understand that the onboarding training is pure PR and spin. I was naive when I went into the role. The pay is terrible for what the managers seek from you. This company has an overall attitude of contempt for the unemployed. 

Working for Max Employment / Max solutions I was hired to undertake a semi senior role.
I was assigned to a small team where we had to implement a lot of requirements set out by the department of employment. Part of the role was to work in different offices around the state. Travel was a complete nightmare and to get reimbursements was made also difficult. In my time at Max, my team had changed managers 4 - 5 times. A lot of the work I did was controlled by various sites and was out of my teams control. Management was not happy with this, when asked for solutions, they looked dumb founded. Staff turn over was high, to the point if a staff member stayed beyond 6 month, they were viewed as part of the furniture. ground level staff had extreme pressures put on and constant break downs in communication occurred. Management looked to back stab you at any point. Eventually the time i was assigned to all quit apart from one. 
Company is full of managers who have no clue on what to do and love pointing the finger.
I noticed a lot of staff had performance reviews and company policy was to not talk about it.
In my time at Max Employment, i noticed a lot of breaches to OH&S and fair work practice. 
Only good thing about this place is you learn a lot as you re pretty much thrown in the deep end and told to sink or swim with no real help from management. If training was provided, it was usually provided by other staff members who only learn about it the previous day and didnt really have a clue on what was happening.
if you want to excel within the company, you'd need to be good at doing nothing and kissing back side. I saw a lot of good people get destroyed by the way they had been treated within this company.
Peoples safety was none existent and if you tried to protect yourself, management would come down hard on you.

High pressure KPI driven work environment. Management can be supportive but this depends on the office that you are working out of. Middle management and above are out of touch with the rest of the company and set unrealistic expectations.

Training is non existent you will be trained over the period of 1 day on the company's model and there are modules that you will need to complete to obtain access to the departments data base, however consultants will just tell you to skip to the quiz as you can attempt them as many times as you want until you get a passing mark.

This is a for profit company, please do not go into this job with the prospect of helping people. You will be forced to take money from the most vulnerable demographics of your local community for not complying with the companies model. 

Every morning and evening the team comes together to present their "numbers" for the day to be written up on the white board and under performing staff are made to feel lazy and are constantly reminded that they are "letting both the site and clients down". 

Last but not least, each month the entire company has a teleconference with the managing director. Usually it is filled with motivational stories however close to Christmas staff are reminded it is on your shoulders to find all of your clients, for clients that are not lucky enough to find work you are reminded that it is your fault they are having a crummy Christmas.

Overall if you do not have a soul i would highly recommend this company. You will fit right in.

Typical day at work within the disability employment service department is either going to canvas prospective employers or getting participants into work. A competitive sometimes cut throat environment where the personal aspect of finding a good jobfit for both participant and employer can become blurred into cash kickbacks for employers, wage bonuses for placing people into jobs and changing peoples attitudes towards working when they receive a sizable disability pension. Be prepared to be treated with contempt by candidates not willing or able to work who feel like they are being made to go into work only for your own personal gain. That all being said there are candidates who genuinely want to work and need to be empowered and finding a good jobfit for these ones can outweigh all the negatives. Requires a very good honourable patient persistent person to be a good consultant. I tried and was fairly successful in my few months for Max but ultimately discovered it was not good for me or my soul.

Some of my clients had sustained injuries that prevented them from working for a period of time. Many clients suffered from mental health issues, ranging from anxiety and depression to bipolar disorder and schitzophrenia. I loved working with these clients so that together we might find ways to manager or overcome barriers to employment.

I found staff there to be professional and I got along well with all of my work colleagues.

I found it quite difficult at times when a client was very motivated to find work and we could not find a suitable position. Over time this could be quite demoralising for clients.

It was actually really difficult saying goodbye to my clients as I had established a good rapport with them.

Of course it was deeply satisfying when I assisted clients to find a suitable job. Some of them were so appreciative and it was very heart warming to know that they were enjoying their workplace and gaining confidence and skills.

Following all compliance and the company code of conduct.
Calling employers and gaining vacancies to refer clients and obtain placements to meet KPI’s.
Booking future appointments and sending out notification letters.
Answering phone calls and taking messages from clients.
Docushare all job search record sheets and other important documents.
Call clients after hours to discuss their employment (Post Placement Support).
Signing up new clients and giving all documents to help them find a job.
Re - typing or making new resumes for clients

Learned about disabilities and their symptoms/ traits
co-workers lovely and caring
Hardest part is trying to work on someone who has severe barriers like drug and alcohol issues employment.
Enjoyable is gaining a client employment.

Pay is good but KPIs are more important than quality of work resulting in poor output and constant back tracking to fix mistakes. Need to kiss a-se to get promoted, resulting in incompetent managers telling you what to do. Poor planning and always playing catch up - no foresight from any level of management and no support when others criticise you for doing your job.
Great place to work if you constantly fail at doing your job - nobody ever gets sacked for not doing their job
Training is poor with one or two people given a crash course on new procedures and then expected to train the rest of the staff
Overall, bad environment for your health and leaving was the best decision I ever made.

"WYNNUM - QUEENSLAND"  I have never worked in such a toxic, nasty office. Bullying is Rampant, Management favouritism-even though this is denied, is clearly evident. Grown Women acting like children in a playground tiddle tattling on each other, just disgusting.  Nice to your face but stab you in the back without hesitation. I worked for this " business" longer then I care to divulge. If you are looking for a great place to work with great culture then  DO NOT APPLY TO MAX EMPLOYMENT- YOU WILL END UP WITH DEPRESSION, LOW SELF WORTH & SEVERE REGRET.

I worked for this " business" longer then I care to divulge.  All I can say is that management , team leaders are all bullies.  I watched as team member after team remember was bullied around me until finally it was my turn.  Ill never forget when I advised my manager that i was not going to return to work after leave she said " I had a feeling that you wouldent come back.. in fact I even put a bet on it"  If you would like to work in a toxic , nasty and never ending bunch of " poo" cycle then this is the place for you .  If you are seeking a good work place culture then please ... dont even hit the apply button because only regret will follow.
