Knox Grammar School

This is my 3rd year at Knox Grammar School. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here. The teachers in my department (Technology) have been so supportive and helpful as soon as I arrived. The students can be polite and respectful, although there are a few cheeky ones (apparent in every school) Knox has a good disciplinary system. I am glad they have an internal suspension system so that kids can still be kept in school but still pay for their consequences. In comparison to my previous schools, i found the community here to be really wonderful and they are constantly trying to help staff improve their wellbeing. You can pitch in to give ideas e.g. fitness/more flexible timetables so you can go home early etc. I also love it when you're walking around the school and teachers greet eacher other and students will say "hello m'am or sir". At my last school, there was a lot of negativity, talking about other teachers etc. At knox, they place a high emphasis on values e.g. Honesty, compassion, integrity etc. and that is reflected in the whole school. As a christian I am glad we can read the bible and share the gospel openly here. Although, I am from a presbyterian background and the school is under uniting church so I do hope that some theological aspects can be improved. 

This review is a warning for anyone considering working at Knox Grammar. After recently leaving the school after working there for 6 years I am not only starting to get my sense of wellbeing back, but am also physically, spiritually and emotionally healing after the bullying, abuse, and degrading behavior I was subjected to. Everyone at Knox is so afraid of losing their jobs that they allow this toxic culture to grow and no support is offered to anyone who is victimised. It is the most insular, toxic, awful environment I have ever worked in, where staff are not valued and routinely disappear without warning. Would never recommend working here, its and absolute nightmare with incompetent HR to boot - your job will never be secure and you're just a punching bag for parents and workplace bullies.

Great pools  extremely clean environment. When I work there we had a great team and positive work environment. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Back on my time we had too many students and not enough teachers.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Tram building workshops and great happy place.the lady who interview me for Coordenatiin position was super helpful and encouraging. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Hard work and happy work.

Surrounded by advanced athletic professionals with a wealth of knowledge who are willing to teach. I learned an abundance of strength and conditioning knowledge as well as GPS and Heart rate collection and analysis of sporting teams.  The hardest part of the job was the time of day that I was required as it was early in the morning or in the evening.  The most valuable part of this experience was the skills it taught me in client trainer relationship and the most effective ways to benefit the individuals for they training goals.

My experience is that the school is too large for upper management to know really what is going on. The scale of the school has resulted in young, inexperienced middle management being appointed which is the main obstacle to effectively fulfilling your role as a teacher. HR seem to have an odd role compared to others schools as despite no one being teaching background they manage all teachers and parent inquiries.The pay is the same as any other school , for the workload and dysfunction go elsewhere. 

For a company who takes pride on wellbeing policy they have in place, they suck on injury management. The injury officer is a rude gaslighting boomer who blames you if were injured at work.  lack of accountability from upper management when incidents happen.  They big in reporting but short in compassion. 

Great supervisors, People and Culture are nice, well qualified. 

What I learned here was how unsupportive and competitive an environment Knox is, with staff turning on each other just to maintain job security, a culture which management condones. I would absolutely not recommend looking elsewhere, for the sake of your health and wellbeing, please do not accept an offer here, no matter how good it looks. Money isn't worth everything and I promise the management within this school will turn on you faster than you can blink.

From the start, my experience working at Knox was awful. Snobbish staff forming cliques where they openly bully other staff members, staff members leaving school grounds nilly willy and breaking rules left, right and centre, staff members making secret deals because of who they know in order to keep their jobs - the whole place is sick, devoid of morals and ethically corrupt. If you have professionalism, a moral compass, or any decency, this is not the right place for you to work.

A terrible organisation that doesn't value hard work, it only values and rewards lazy employees who gossip about others. The majority of people who I've met whilst working here are mean spirited, selfish and only care about a paycheque rather that helping students. I would not suggest working at Knox, unless you are ready to be verbally abused, bullied, ostracised, and lose you sense of self worth. Nasty staff, nasty parents, badly behaved students. A terrible employment choice.
