With so much focus on deadlines the exhibition or "expo" industry in Australia is a killer. You will find yourself doing 50-60 weeks with 10-12 hour days. 6 hours a sleep average a night and doing a work "week" of 10,15,20 days in a row. None of this is an exaggeration, it happens every day, every year. Installex tried to their best to navigate this and make it as easy for their staff as possible. Some of the senior management stood in the way of progress in the name of profit which ultimately lead to the death of the exhibition department at Installex.

The nature of this work is very unpredictable. You will meet some nice people, but you will so encounter A LOT of egos. Pay is inadequate with no penalty rates. Management will prioritize shifts for those who are popular with supervisors, not necessarily those with strong work ethic. Expect to get shifts cancelled at the very last minute with no explanation. If you want some quick money by all means give it a go, but at the end of the day it is a dead end job. Make the most of it by networking.

I learnt how to setup exhibitor stands and build custom stands for exhibitors. The crew you work with are pretty and a good bunch of guys. Unfortunately due the downside to working in events in that the work isn't consistent and sometimes you could be a month or more without work during the year. Good job to have for a second or third job but if you want full time hours it isn't the ideal company to work for.

InstallEx was great because it showed me what a career in construction could involve. I was able to plan my study around the casual hours. As i do not have a personal car or red P plates I relied on friends and family to drive me to bus and train station, this was challenging but workable. The most immediate problem with this job however, was the lack of shifts that would come through.

The team work is very kind, particularly the supervisors and the experience labourer. Too many benefits, learning skills, team work, good money, etc. Some drawbacks which are limited shifts, casual job, irregular shifts(i.e., you don't know when and where you will get shift), some shifts are cancelled!, Over all is good starting point.

You can do some long hours if you have experience and tools, shifts of stand building can be in and out if work crew work hard. With big expos custom built stands with raised floors can be spectacular with led lighting. Overall good company to work for with young inexperienced workers learning to for your knowledge of senior leading hand.

Great bunch of guys and girls to work with.  Every job is interesting.  Work in a variety of locations, but has 4 main locations with constant work availability throughout Brisbane and Gold Coast.

Worked for this company thankfully only for a short time 
Blamed everyone else for there mistakes and then ripped me off 
If you’re a decent installer I wouldn’t bother with this company

for someone who wants to get involved with physical jobs and learn about group work, handy equipment utilisation. in particulary it suits for students and people who wants to get extra income
