Allows you to choose your own availability either via phone or online. You can nominate your travel distance/time with staff so if you are only willing to travel 30 mins from home, staff try to find you shifts to match your requests.
Shifts can either be booked in advance or last minute. 
If you do not wish to work at any facility you can nominate not to be sent there again. 
Online competencies are available for free or book in for practical courses that HCA offer at a staff discount for most courses if not all. 
Quickpay is also available for those who wish to get paid within 24 hrs after a shift, depending on timesheet submission and bank processing time. This attracts a small fee to do so but comes in handy when you need cash at short notice and payday is too far away. Weekly pays offered here. 
Hours can be inconsistent which is to be expected working with an agency so be prepared for minimal work at times. I've had times when only 1 shift was booked for the week. Busy times can be 5 or more, this also depends on your availability. 
Cancellations can occur at last minute or well before you commence a shift. On the occasion you're cancelled once you've arrived at the facility though -this has happened to me- you can be compensated for the inconvenience of a couple hours. 
Working for agency exposes you to different facilities and of course people. Being able to adapt and learn different systems, policies and routines from site to site, will help you move from place to place developing skills that you might not be exposed to working at just one facility. I've found everyone has their own way of working through tasks and people can be quite helpful along the way.
HCA are on hand to answer questions and offer support if needed.

I am a Mental Health Nurse. Working for HCA allows me to arrange my work around my life rather than my life around my work.
City community & inpatient teams are all under pressure. The joy of contacts where you can focus on care and keep out of office politics is precious. The option to float above the politics isn't always enough to make a tough team a good place to work - but bless HCA do your contact and then say no to going back and that is accepted you don't get hassled to accept another shift there.
Stretch yourself. Take a break from your routines [or your family?] head bush. Take a contract with Rural and Remote - care for patients coping with different stressors fire drought floods - small teams in interesting places who call you by name and are so happy to have you - an alternative to being 'the agency nurse'.
If you are reliable, work hard, and have sound skills there is nothing like to freedom of agency work. Just don't be a nurse that puts their name down for a shift and then won’t answer the phone. If you don't want to work take yourself off roster. Make it easy for the consultant to book you and you will be plenty of work - and if you are like me LOVE it.

I first started  in this company and was very new to Australia . They said I have a shift available at Tanunda . I agreed and thought they meant " Ananda '' Nursing Home which is 5 mins from my place. Upon google search , I realized it was close to more than an hour drive. I called them and asked for a cancellation to which they disagreed . Mind you this was 12 hours before starting the shift . As a result, my poor  old Dad who was an experienced driver in America had to   drive more than an hour to this aged care . He had to pick me up to. 
They listen and support whatever the employees of the places talk about you . In another aged care , they accused me of using a mobile ph during working hrs. THIS WAS A BIG FAT LIE . Hca however agreed with this particular aged care and never listened to me . This aged care had lazy caregivers who got jealous as I did 14 night shifts with them . 
 HCA says they have many shifts but the actual fact is they don't !!!

The goal of the agency here is to fill shifts for their clients and that is all. There is no attempt to help staff get consistent work, no attempt made to send staff back to places they've been before, no attempt to find convenient shifts that are easy to get too. There is no one to talk to if you have any issues, no sense of community. They work with many small private hospitals so get used to taking PT all over the city. You only get paid 7 hour shifts (booked for 7.5 hrs not 8, then -lunch break). Clients are able to cancel right before your shift so you wake up, get ready, then get a phone call (no work!). 

 The benefit of working for them is the ability to choose when you work and that is all. 

Ive been lucky to get regular work at one location who rosters me on their own, otherwise job security was a big concern for me, especially over the holiday/summer season.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Flexibility. HCA app. Always shifts. Great bookings staff. Always a nice Xmas celebration. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Walking on to wards where you know no one and don’t know the ward. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Great. Everyone nice and respectful. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I usually get my shift allocation well in advance. If it’s a new location. I check maps for parking. Get there 30 minutes early to park. I leave 15 minutes to find agency sign on office. Introduce myself. Smile. Be professional, team player and pleasant. Go for my breaks. Look after my allocated patients. Interact with the team. Give a good handover. And wait till the TL has said I can leave my shift for the agency sign on office so as to sign out.

This company were horrible to work with. Area manager low in value, total bogan,  but big on being a smart Alec. Classes held in random locations, eg: golf courses, church halls, gyms
No training equipment provided. Trainers are expected to supply everything  including towels, sheets, pillows etc. Trainers are sent all over the place to train all different groups - don't get the same class for the whole of the course. 
Unpaid monthly meetings - out of hours.
Not paid for marking. Really poor IT induction. Constant emails (which I kept getting months after I'd left)
Management extremely rude and dismissively unavailable to trainers.
Mandatory horrid uniform.
Super taken out of your pay, no company  contribution.
I left after 6 weeks.

I have found working with health care Australia they are very supportive and willing to help you in any. I was out of work and they manage to offer me a contract to work in Alice Springs for 4 and half weeks, this was a great experience and a great learning curve. I have found all staff that i have worked with have been great to work with and always there to help you. I find when you go to a place that you have not been to before and you have to rely on your staff to help, i have found that this is away to start off with a good relationship between you and the staff you are working with. I have found working with Health Care Australia has been the most enjoyable place to work with, I have made so many new friends and I have learnt a lot about different cultures, this experience is amazing.

Variety of clinical, acute, paediatric nursing experience gained in different locations.
Great exposure to health sector of you're studying nursing

Being cancelled shifts that you have committed to. Unable to plan your lifestyle especially if you're at university or TAFE studying.
No certainty or regular schedule.
Very erratic work schedule

The client is variable and depending on the work culture, it can be stressful and volitile at times but, you're a valuable asset to most people

Variable and unreliable at times

Keep recruiting staff when there is no work. Ridiculous belief that they can find clients and keep you busy. Wasted my time going for interview with them. Even did a referee check, which I find all so dramatic, when you have actually have no work to offer. Even if they had supposedly clients,  the clients will somehow withdraw their services, just before you sign employment contract. So their modus operandi : lure you with make up clients, once you about to sign employment contract, they say clients have pull out or not interested in their services, but will be able to find new clients for you. Basically, recruiters want to meet their monthly KPIs,  So yes you are just a number to fill up their monthly KPI quotas!  Just be wary of recruitment agencies....their intentions are never good or honest.
