My daily work routine would start by checking my electronic calendar about daily appointments and meetings for the day.
I would then have to prepare for those meetings.
Work cars are available for traveling to meetings which are further away from the city, so I make sure I book the car that I will be taking to whichever meeting. However, when there are no meetings, there is always paper work to do i.e. project evaluation reports, etc.

Records of activities for each day is kept for accountability purposes.

Management:
There are two managers in this work place. The managers do check the daily activity book to ensure everyone is doing their job. A performance appraisal is conducted once every three months.

My work colleagues
We see ourselves as a team. We support each other when and where necessary. We have team meetings once a month to discuss areas of concern and our work and what support each individuals would require for their project.

I enjyed my job I helped families on a daily basis in many situations, I learnt a lot of social work skills and practise which I used on a daily basis not only in my professional life but also in my personal life. 

Management was very organised and supportive and I learnt a lot od leadership skills during my time at the organization

My co-workers were a pleasure to work with we had a great team that worked well together and were very supportive of one another

The hardest part of the job was not being able to place children in caring and loving homes due to the fact that there weren't enough and also dealing with abuse cases.

The most enjoyable part of the job is happy outcomes for all concerned

What is the best part of working at the company?
Meeting new people and respecting everyone culture and privacy and learning more as you grow

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Not having enough staff to get duties done on time and overdoing yourself with overtime on high demand 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Very good we have a multi cultural group of men and women

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I prefer afternoon and nightshift, that is when it gets really busy, it makes your day go faster

First few months, I would cry everyday because of how overwhelming it was. However, I grew to enjoy the challenges and every day was a new day. 

I had very effective communication with my management. There were times when it could’ve been better, but that’s okay. 

Pay rate probably should be slightly higher to match the survival rate in the cost of living. 

Shift work is okay, because you do get 4-6 weeks a head and you’re able to swap your shift. Can be hard if you have a family. Finding that work/life balance is important.



This was a great opportunity to work for a hospital, yet seeing positive outcomes. I enjoyed that we were able to help with recovery and see positive results. This also was a way for me to develop independently as there were often situations that we didn't know what we were going into. This was a huge step in my self development as I had to make strangers feel as ease and gain their trust.
This was a great facility to work for and I felt integrated within the team, and felt equal.

Manager, regional area
The position was the only management position on a team with 35 direct reports, staff based across a wide geographical area
Balancing a leadership role with managing staff performance and sustaining relationships both external and internal proved initially very challenging and eventually stressful and exhausting.
My experience of the work culture was that it was not collaborative, non transparent and did not live the values of the organisation

Very interactive and good teamwork atmosphere, likes management so much and how organized they were. 

It was sad to leave due to moving overseas as the relationships with the clients was such a great part of working in the acute ward. But grateful for the work ethics and knowledge gained over the years working there as it helped me to more aware and continue to pursue this calling now being oversease in other areas of health care. 


Absence of visibility or accessibility to upper management

Inadequate resourcing to deliver services effectively especially across Maori and rural communities despite this being a core component of the DHB strategic planning since 2012

I have already discussed how supportive Counties Manukau Health Board Hospital has been to me in another review, I have appreciated all employment within the hospital structure and have gained good grounding in my nursing knowledge and skills as it is a dedicated education hospital.

Most of my day includes cleaning.  Very little patient contact.  More contact with families, visitors and staff.   
Health care Assistants work extremely hard with no recognition.   I am wanting a change from working rostered and rotating shifts if possible.   Pay increase would have more of a positive in attitudes and how we work,  recognised as an important asset of the ward.
