during my time at Hastings Deering, my typical day consisted on checking the workers time sheets and ensuring that they were correct and if not I would collate this information and send to the workshop foreman, leading hand & supervisor of that specific area and request that either a time card or leave form be completed to rectify the missing times. Once Received and approved I would enter this information in to the data system and forward to payroll for verification.
I would also book workers in to training and ensure that their skills were kept up to date, especially safety, code of conduct, working safely at heights, contamination control just to name a few.
I would also by request of the leading hand, workshop foreman or supervisor, contact a supplier and request a quote for items in need, once the quote has been received and approved I would write out a purchase order and, get this authorised and email this to the suppliers. I would keep copies of the purchase order and send copies to accounts. once an invoice has been received from the supplier I would check this against the quote - ensuring it was for the correct goods requested - then I would request approval by management for payment, once approved I would send off to accounts to finalise.
if by chance the quote and invoice did not match I would speak with the leading hand, workshop foreman or supervisor to check items 
I was uncertain of. Once I had conformation of the discrepancy, I would contact the supplier with both copies and request a credit note and reissue of the invoice. 
I would review job packets that were sent by the Workshop foreman or leading hand to ensure that no outstanding invoices or back order of parts were on the job but also ensure that any consumables applicable were on the job. once this was all ready, I would scan all documents and attach to the data system ready for the Service Advisor's to invoice.

I thoroughly enjoyed working with all staff, suppliers, clients as I am very much a peoples person and being able to assist and have the daily contact with all stake holders was important to myself.
the hardest part of the job was when the redundancies were made public, whilst I maintained positive - as best I could - I tried to encourage staff to do the same. knowing it would be a hard time for all of us we had to ensure we continued to produce the best quality of work.

I was very enthusiastic about this job and consistently received positive feedback from the team. Overall though the culture was at times toxic. Management were all too busy covering for themselves at the cost of others.  There was a lot of finger pointing and calling out in front of everyone in team meetings so it was awful, it made it hard to have a good relationship with anyone. Management had their own way of working and own set of expectations that made working with HD very challenging, damned if you do and damned if you dont. The work hours were flexible with early Friday knock off so the team was productive. Just a shame management are not consistent and making decisions based on their egos. Very callous dog eat Dog environment. Would not work for HD, their product reputation makes you think it would be a great place to work. Also not forthcoming at all during enterprise bargaining... Direct competitors pay much better for skilled work. I did not stay the year with HD and wouldn't work for them again, while I worked with them there were frequent resignations due to management. 

At work normally before 8:00 am. Check diary. Start with job that takes priority. Get all accounts across asap. Follow up on e mails that was send but no reply.  Make sure all tasks were attended to  even if there is a hold on some. 
I have learned that if you are a friendly person that is always willing to help you build a good relationship with people and customers also be firm if need be.  
Always manage your time well to be able to get the work done and assist when needed.  
Co workers play a big role in how happy a work place can be. Get to know them, but do not gossip about them they might need you and you might need them.  Keep a strong friendly relationship with all.  Nothing in my role was hard for me, just the fact that there was some comments about me being a immigrant, that was hard. 
The most enjoyable was for me to be there everyday, see every one working there and being able to share.  Being able to solve a problem or help some one who doesn't know the process and lend a hand and use my knowledge to get a job across the line.

Discrimination in the work arena is something you must get use to. Some management do not approve of women in the work place which is largely male, this is due to the distraction element. Advancement is difficult because of this, concerns are ignored or made light of.
Communication was good with team mates.
I was never given opportunity to advance, even when it was obvious I could do more, management unreasonable and fostered the element of fear of losing your job to maintain mistakes from happening, but not correcting the real issues to stop mistakes. This caused the atmosphere of finger pointing to get out of things, or blame shifting to save self
Hastings has the potential of being great, if you could remove some of the Management

the day starts at 06:00 am , we have a safety meeting and in most cases it use to be the leading hand to chair the meeting . After a safety topic you go through the old jobs and new jobs , he will then distribute the jobs to each and every one.
I come to learn that Australians are good guys to work with this includes management and my co-workers. The hardest part to my side was when we finish all the jobs in the workshop then we start sweeping and moving about the workshop. I use to enjoy when we have a flow work load (a lot of jobs) you be moving from one job to the other.

Every day working at Hastings Deering in my role as an Project Estimator/Planner always brought new and interesting challenges. As every coal mine Under Longwall Miner overhaul involved constant improvements and upgrades you were constantly learning. The support from management and co-workers was always a great help to achieve an accurate scope of work for our estimating process. Hardest part of the job was to get new components delivered in a suitable time frame. The most enjoyable part of the job was to see an overhaul completed on time and on budget which we achieved most times.

My day on site is generally quite busy.  I don't tend to do the same thing, day in and day out.  My job role will change constantly and I need to adapt quickly to situations and act just as quick so the jobs required do not hold up production at times.  I love my job roles because I don't have one particular job.  My job is challenging, hard at times and the pressure can be of a high level at times.  I like the fact that I need to be on my toes and observant in what I do and go about my day.  Everyday I'm given the opportunity to learn something new whether it makes my job or someone else's job safer or easier.

I don't have much to say about this company except that the way they operate is downright appalling, you get spoken to terribly by the people that have been there for years and you are not accepted into their circles unless you are of the same age and have the same interests as them which makes work life extremely uncomfortable. They have failed to follow correct Health & Safety procedures for new employees which is just downright dangerous on a site that size.

In conclusion, save yourself the hassle and don't bother working here unless you are between the ages of 35-50, have at least 2 kids and are married.

Efficient Processes and systems of work which ensure KPIs are achievable. The work culture and the high safety standard. The Continous Improvement programs in place.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The most stressful for me was ensuring that the projects are executed in a timely manner ensuring quality standards at all times..

It's has a great work culture and systems and policies in place ensure employees well being is looked after.

my typical day at work entails picking and packing orders,customer service and loading and unloading trucks.i learnt how to do warehousing and computers and I got on fantastic with the management,i had fun with all my co-workers and we had good interaction.hardest part of my job was learning to do in-bound,outbound and the computer work involved.i think the most enjoyable part of the job was the interaction with management,co-workers, customers and learning
