The sun was always shining during a shift on Hamilton Island. Recruitment on Hamilton Island is a very long process. Once arriving on the Island, a two week training process takes place, where we learn how to be %100 professional at all times. We learnt mannerisms when talking to guests, how to provide the best service and how to have a pristine appearance at all times.
The work team were very close, as we were living together in staff accommodation. Because of this, working as a team was never a problem. 
The hardest part of working on an Island is not having access to shops, cars and our families. On top of that, In March 2017 we went through a category 5 cyclone that destroyed the Island. For weeks, we worked as a team, cleaning up and restoring the Island.
I loved working with people on holiday and making their experiences the best it could possibly be, by providing professional and informative service.

Relaxed atmosphere generally, however fast paced at times depending on the emergency of the job.
8 hrs of work a day, had time to go spear fishing after work, or catching squid.
Plenty of ways to spend your money very quick. IGA store has prices elevated above normal retail, obviously for the paying customers.
Smoko truck comes around to each department through the day, reasonably priced food and tastes good too. Discounted activities for island workers.
The culture is a sad part, there are people there that shouldn't be in the position, coveting power and even abusing it, man did I want to Knock out a couple of idiots. 
Besides that it's not a too bad, find a good trustworthy crew of people that helps. There are some really amazing individuals there and from all over Australia and the world

A typical day at work is waking up looking out the window and seeing the reef and wildlife. I have learned and gained so much experience working on a the Island, i have learnt stock take, closining and opening of the shop, cash drop which is where after you shut you cash count and then get escorted by security to the bank then deposoting the cash and then handing in the shop keys through security locked doors. My co workers are amazing they are now close long life friends. The hardest part of the job is when we had to work "race week" we have to open from 6am- 10pm with only having hour breaks, although we shut at 10 we still stayed back until 12am to make sure everything was ready for the next day. The most enjoyable part of my job was everything i loved everything about it.

I enjoyed my time working there. The location was amazing, the most incredible views of the Whitsundays. 
My experience from premium housekeeping with Hamilton Island has put me in good stead and has left me with a great understanding of housekeeping. I take great pride in my work, i have keen eye for attention to detail, and loved making the guests stay more memorable. 
I aslo had a great repour with my co-workers and management. 
Theses skills and knowledge i have obtained will show through to any position within hospitality. 
I like to exceed expectations, and enjoy new challenges. 
Overall my hospitality experience has been positive and enjoyable, but I'm looking forward to expand my skills to a more customer service based position.

was working on the island as a "services plumber" for over a year. work was ok, very very very poorly organised by manager. Manager was not even qualified for position as has no background in plumbing only gas? As the saying goes "fake it till you make it". management don't care unless it directly affects/benefits them. 

Couldn't sum it up better my self than someone wrote on the staff bathroom wall - "Hamilton Island - Where second rate tradesmen become managers"

Most of the trades people have no clue in regards to work.

Island offer "free" training/upskilling only to hold it against you in a 12 month contract.

ANY PLUMBERS OR GASFITTER WITH HALF AN IDEA DO NOT GO THERE.

I very enjoyed my time on Hamilton Island.My accommodation was 5 minutes walking distance from the restaurant i worked for. M shift started either at 2pm or 5pm and finish around 11pm.
I work for one of the fine dining restaurant on the island based on italian food. I learned a lot about fine dining experience, food and wine knowledge and steps of service.
The team was strong and was helping new starter to find their place in a new environment.
It was hard working 7/7 in the busiest time (es. schools holidays, race weeks, Christmas and New year eve) but it was pay back on your days off: you 'll spend tem on a beautiful tropical island!

Pros:
Good staff accommodation provided.
Teamwork: Supportive immediate teammates who work well together despite the pressure.

Cons:
Hazardous working conditions including persistent ventilation failure and equipment safety issues.
Impersonal, blame-shifting leadership from some Executives.
Constant clean-up is required to fix management-level mistakes, often coupled with pressure to change personal schedules at the last minute.
A "favorites" culture and a climate of staff monitoring that severely erodes trust.

Hamilton Island is a great place one being its location.
Good climate if you love the tropical weather. 
Great place to take your boat or jetski around the many islands. 
Working for the waste & recycling  department was good pay ,a physical  job but kept me fit and healthy .

The only down side is living and work in your workplace can get a bit much.
There are strict rules of what you can and can't do on the island outside of work hours as it is a resort.


HIE is an awesome company to work with i enjoyed my time working with them for 2 years and i never regretted a single time of taking my jobs on the Island there is always something to do they were all so supportive in difficult task like big jobs and personal life. They have a great network team and always have a "go-getter" attitude

days are hot & humid,I learnt how to work with non english speaking people, management is great, when you come to work & do your work, they are always there to help you.Everyone works tireless despite the humidity, the hardest part would be the language barrier, the best part was working & meeting so many different people from all walks of life.
