The HP of today remains full of loyal, talented people and a few great managers.  However, HP has become hamstrung by internal processes and too many ‘involved’ people, distracting its employees from focusing on HP’s clients.
Waves of workforce redundancies have left employees unable to make decisions and take calculated risks.  The HP of today is about filling in spreadsheets and managing internal email communications.
The most positive aspect about life at HP is its people, though in recent years, much of the enthusiasm and spark has been beaten out of them.
HP pays a competitive salary though (sales) over achievement is becoming discouraged due to the company’s drive to reduce operational cost (such as commission payments).
I believe employees have faith in Meg Whitman and her strategy to turn the company around.  Once the bloodletting stops, HP returns to being an innovator and allows itself to focus more on its customers, I believe it may once again become a great place to work.

Typical day at work:
Represent Hewlett Packard in conducting and participating in multi-disciplinary process quality improvement/re-engineering and lead small project groups.
Management:
Effective management would be the ones who communicate, encourage and support their staff
What I have learned:
Working with multinational groups globally taught me how to communicate with everyone effectively, manage timelines and deadlines and negotiate requirements as and when needed.
The hardest part of my job
Ensuring everyone meets the deadlines is one of the hardest task but through teamwork and effective communication, this can be achieved successfully.
The most enjoyable part of my job
Learning new things and facing challenges gives me the inspiration to wake up everyday to exciting things happening at work.

I have learned to improve communication skills, work in a team, 

I have enjoyed every day at work as it was most interested job of my career. I have always been eager to work long and sometimes didn't want to have weekends as i enjoyed the work so much and always eager for Mondays so i can keep enjoying my work. Even during weekends i have managed to come to office to complete the task to keep up HP quality support and service.

I was based onsite which helped me learn onsite experience and also to work along with HP Project management team. I desired for more opportunities and represented HP with various clients and maintained the support. I was also nominated for best performance.

HP has provided me with a great deal of opportunities in the job field of Desktop Support Engineer, with both remote and on-site support roles over my 15 years with the organisation.

As an on-site support representative, I found a great satisfaction in working with people on all of the Customer Account roles.
HP has always provided extensive training material to assist with improving my approach to work ethics and an overall improvement to my work performance.
The work offered was extremely challenging but totally rewarding.

I thoroughly enjoyed my years working for HP and given the opportunity, I would certainly take up another position in the organisation.

I am thankful to have had a fulfilling career with HP.

Especially when I first joined, they were very people orientated with good people development programs.

I loved working there and enjoyed steady promotions and recognition.

From lead analyst / programmer, system manager,  project manager, to Portfolio Manager and then to deputy Manager of a department of 50 staff.

The climate of HP changed over time and with new management and the corporate competition lead HP to downside there operations and staff. Hence I was offered a redundancy package that I accepted.

I have had the priviledge of working at HP on 3 x separate occassions over a decade but, sadly, the company has morphed from a great team culture to one where internal politics and in-fighting make your role uncertain and days stressful. There is poor job security and management seem to no longer have the rapport with their field force. It is still HP - just not the HP I remember with fondness.

HP is a good place to work, however there is a huge staff turnover and retrenchments due to ongoing restructuring.  This makes it not a secure place to work, as at least once a year there are culling of staff and one never knows when your turn will come.

At HP one works hard and the pace is fast which is really great.  Management culture is aggressive and unsympathetic in driving outcomes when coming to its people.  

Given the above I woud still work for HP again.

Normally very busy work day depending on Director's schedule with travel commitments depending on the business.

I learned so much about myself and others. I love working with my direct report - it was nice to take ownership and be responsible for regional deliverables and have the breathing space to do that. 

The best part of the job was my direct report and my network of colleagues that I've met since being at HP.

Spent a long time working at Hewlett Packard and working with some of the most invigorating people within the IT world today.  However long-term progression in career movement was limited.  If you are really goo at your job, then do not expect to advance from it.

Senior management do appreciate your efforts but rarely think about the individuals progression.

Perhaps this has changed since i left but that is my perception back then.

HP is a dynamic place to work at and has such diversity it is hard to get a grasp of it all. The good thing is you meet fantastic people and very intelligent people at the same time. Co-workers were a very close knit family with great work ethic. Hardest part of the job was actually satisfying the customer on a daily basis as you always had to be on the ball. Enjoy it all thoroughly as it is fun to have a good challenge every day and experienced people around you that you could share and feed off.
