HM Prison & Probation Service

I loved the environment, loved my job, loved delivering high quality care to this individual client group ensuring their health was priority. The  Correctional Staff were awesome. Working with the MDT within the medical centre was fantastic!! 
The management at Correct Care Barwon however are toxic,  and if you want to be treated fairly, respectfully and be encouraged to stay with the company don’t work there. They will most definitely push you out and make it very hard to stay if you are not in the ‘favourite group’ and if you have a personality you will be instantly on the outer. Unfairly treated is an understatement.
Terrible roster, terrible attitude and I’m way more happier in a role where I’m appreciated by both clients and management. 

Worked for the prison service for over 20 years. Saw it deteriorate from a culture which was controlled and safe, to being uncontrolled and dangerous. Management find jobs for the boys. If you are one of the control and restraint guys, with out of date values and male chauvinism you will fit in very well.  Hardest part dealing with management and gossip. Most enjoyable part chatting to prisoners. Learned how to be assertive. 

In this time working with HMP Constructions, I grew maturely, I learnt what it was like to live away from those you loved. I learnt how to communicate with people on levels. I had never worked in an office until HMP, I was basic reception, to pay roll, which was a huge responsibility, I did that role for 3 years, then I went into Training and become a training coodinator, to looking after inductions. We were a tight nit company, and look apon each other to teach, to learn, to be work mates and with some family.

Dealing with prisoners and staff needs, and the requirements of the prison
Everyday was a learning day something new or strange everyday
Management are not qualified and are not required to do further studies to hold these positions
Culture of the prison, was workable depending on who you were working with
Hardest part of the Job as a supervisor was the restriction on staff resources
Enjoyable part of the job, going home each day.

just dont do it, its a job where you are understaffed and management expect you to fill the gaps.you have to be aware of everything around you as you are always in danger, you will face confrontation every day,Prisoners will try to condition you to get you on side.The shifts are long and hard,you will be dealing with mental health issues, violence,drug problems,self harm and even suicides.its not a job for those of a delicate nature.

Never two days were the same, it was challenging yet rewarding. 
I was constantly learning, and had the opportunities of internal moves within the establishment which enhanced my skills and knowledge.
I had a very supportive management team within all my roles whilst at Glen Parva.
We had a very hardworking and upbeat workplace culture

The culture at belmarsh is one of fast paced non accepting if not capable. Some management back you up others dont even try. Very easy to be forced out if they dont want you but if you fit in it is great. They expect you to be very involved socially as well.

Challenging environment with very little training and support. No management interest in you as an individual. The prison service is in crisis, and it's evident when you work there - "computer says no" to any question asked where there isn't a 346 page policy to give you the answer.

Management were quite poor on the whole. Some very good managers but some very poor ones. Job isn’t for everyone, but if you like it and can stick at it you have some rewarding Times. 

You will know if you enjoy it in the first 6 months.

very varied role which i enjoyed, everyday was different. working within the visits department, security & education also gate lock.
my favourite department was visits, i am rapiscan trained and enjoyed interacting we the visitors.
