Worst job I've had in hospitality. Often expected to work for free. No penalties or overtime incl public holidays. Rarely ever get breaks you are entitled to and if you ask you will get less shifts. Toxic upper management, zero communication. No benefits aside from product discount. Purposefully underpays employees. They will threaten your job if you dont come in when they ask you to. They force store managers to do the same too. Forced staff to serve customers without masks during delta outbreak, resulting in several staff refusing to work due to safety concerns. Refuses to fix problems in stores even if its a major safety issue. Water leaks over electricity  outlets and they force employees to work in these unsafe conditions without attempting repairs or closing the store.

I started working at Gelatissimo and was extremely impressed with everything! I had paid online training and received lots of help with how to properly do the job. 
The pay wasn't the best (I was young at the time but was on minimum wage) but it was my first job so I couldn't really do much about that.
The managers at the job were young (19-20), they would often sit out the back on their phones and leave the young staff (14-16) out the front alone when there were rushes of people.
The boss would often send passive aggressive emails which would make myself and the other staff feel small and like we were doing everything wrong when a lot of the issues were caused by the older staff who were on closing shifts.
I left the job after my shifts went down from 4 shifts a week to 0-1. I brought this up with my boss and tried to get more shifts (taking other peoples shifts) and my boss would just hire more people.
I was promised 4 shifts/week and that was not upheld.
This may have just been the specific store I was working at, but I didn't have the most pleasant experience.

POSITIVE:
- the younger staff were all super nice and I made some really great friends and memories from the position.
- 50% off all products which was great!

This job was a 50-50. There were times that I really enjoyed it and there were times that I didnt want to be there. Unfortunately myself and my bosses struggled to get along, as they always found things to pick on me for. In this job I did everything to the best of my ability but it was never enough for my bosses at the time. I had to leave this job to go on a trip 'World Challenge' for a month travel - an amazing experience. I was told by my boss that if I contacted her when I got back the job was still mine. However, I did contact her when i got back but never recieved a reply - resulting in no formal way of losing my job.

Everyday was the same. The Customers were always lovely and happy to come get there gelato. Co-workers were the nicest people, there would always be at least three of us working and we would make great chat. The management was strict but necessarily so. I learned a lot about the gelato and the makings of it and how stock was retrieved and kept. The most enjoyable thing was the social interactions and toughest part was meeting sales day in and out.

Due to being younger I believed that the workers and staff treated me accordingly to my age, but negatively. They thought I was immature and spoke to me like a child. I had friends doing similar jobs and different companies getting paid nearly double what I was and the late night I would work were not worth the money I was getting. I would always try to make myself as available as possible but when asked to not finish late on weekdays, I still got put on which was the last straw for me. I did not find it inviting at all.

No support or guidance lack of communication 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Not the best team environment a lot of pressure and stress was put on the team as they were saving monkey on labour and cutting 15 or more hours from the roster over peak trade.

Gelatissimo has definitely got to be one of my favourite jobs, every single one of the employees that work here are very helpful and great at what they do! 

I would absolutely recommend working here, especially for young teens who are looking for a first time job. 

The work is very simple and fun, you also get to serve many interesting customers.

This job is definitely a job for people who are great with talking to others because that is a big part of working here.

Poor management skills as anything that went wrong, the newest team member will get the blame. Some of the people that work here really abuse their power and can be too pushy. Ive seen a lot of people start their job here and then  get fired out of nowhere or thyey themselves quit due to the poor salary wages, inability to express ideas or opinions, rosters are not stable and the list goes on.

I was only here for a couple of months and i quit just because of how bad it was

Simply put, do not bother

I worked here for 8 or so months and the girls in the team did not like me as I called them out for taking cash from the registers. I stayed late a lot and started early as requested, so to make a good impression. 

One morning I was excited to go to work and I got dressed and got ready to go to work and then my parents told me the manager had called and asked them to tell me I am no longer needed. 

Then a week later they had "help wanted" signs up again.

my manager was rude, uninterested and unprofessional. He would only communicate with employees vie text, he would leave for smoke brakes contently, have over half an hour of a lunch/dinner brake and come assist the other workers when there was too many people in the store, and criticize the employees as they are serving costumes.
