I would prepare progress claims to the head builders, assist the project managers with the materials for site, we worked mainly on large commercial buildings such as World Tower in the City.
I was able to move into this role as I had the necessary skills from my years working with Westfield, processing claims, preparing schedules, checking invoices, assisting the estimator.
This is where I had learned what was required for estimating, doing the take offs, etc.
This was the best team of guys I have ever worked with, they appreciated my assistance and understood when I hounded them for the % of work completed on site, it was because I needed to provide claim schedules for the progress claims.
Getting the % of work complete from the Project Managers, I always had a good idea of what we had sent to site, but needed to find out what had been installed.
Recognition by the company at the end of the year for your effort was always much appreciated. I never expect it but when you are acknowledged, its always a great feeling.

During my time at G James I found that the biggest concern for me was that management where the biggest bunch of incompetent idiots I've ever encountered. The lies and victimisation was unbelievable as well the general bullying by not only management but a lot of staff also. Not all branches were as bad as some but in was what I consider to be a very toxic work place the waiting time on products was up to six weeks with a consistently faulty product the general attitude seems to be it isn't my problem.

A workplace that fostered teamwork and camaraderie. Management leads by example in assuring quality of work and attention to detail are maintained at all times.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Very much the same as yesterday

A typical day at work was  filing through all the paperwork for glass orders, next after that i would be sampling glass all day or doing general duties that needed to be done. I learnt how to use the oracle program here and how to sample glass. The hardest part of this job was getting the hang of the filing system and the enjoyable part of the job was the people and company itself.

A day there you would start early you'll take a job card and start processing it. You can make all kinds of products so you'll be learning different things most days and also learning how to fit products as well. Enjoyable part is the on job training and the social life with other co-workers such as social club BBQs etc.

Poor management culture across the whole company and very penny wise but dollar stupid.
Good job security and conditions if you make your own rules.
Overall I enjoyed my almost 11 years at G James but had to leave because of pay rate and lack of premotions.

Day at work was very under pressure, due to the deadlines for management.
Processing of invoices and accounts.
Answering phones,
Managing appointments and meeting for management.
Organising and ordering stationery supplies.

the only thing that was a negative working at gjames glass was the loading of trucks .lifting large glass doors up to load on the back.asking for some assistance from another worker standing there using his mobile phone and saying learn to lift it was unacceptable.

typical day at work would be either cutting out metal for orders
or building windows
i learnt to make windows from cutting out the metal on the saw for the windows all the way up to the finished product
there wasn't really a hard part of the job
the most enjoyable part of the job was learning something new
