Franklyn Blinds

The interview seemed pretty straight forward and sounded like such a delightful place to work at. Started the next week and was all excited for it. I was put with another worker to " train me " she had only been there for 4  months and still needed training herself. 

First day i was in the assemble side of things (because thats what i had originally applied for) all was good, i had my notepad, had taken notes because the job required alot of small and big components and different names for different things when assembling what the customer would order or want on their blinds. By the third day i was moved into another section (different to what i had applied for) and then by the fourth day i was put in another section and i had no training what so ever, i was then the floater so i had to learn all difference sections with little training, when they had moved me back to my original section where i started my first day it had been 3 weeks almost so i had lost all knowledge of that section from the first day, they have me KPIS to hit and then moved me again back into another section 2 days after and then it was a whole month after all the moving around with me they had decided to change the whooole process of things. In the end i got fired because i had taken a day off being sick, i had to leave work because a family member was in hospital which i had mentioned in my interview which they said " if anything happens, you let us know " making it feel like an understanding work place. They fired me and sent me a centrelink certificate to " resume my benefit " assuming i was on the benefit before getting this job but im not an australian citizen like i had mentioned in my interview.

The place had 1 manager running 3 sections, with a sales person who ran another section, neither people could manage but pushed for numbers more and more, they wouldnt let you work overtime unless it fell in their time. I was only there for 2ish months and the people hired before me 1 had left, another they had fired and another had handed his resignation in because the workplace was pushing for numbers but not wanting to give overtime for the numbers. 

I had moved around in this place so much i had little time to hold the knowledge and lack of training they had given, Not knowing enough to assemble anything. A place filled with sales people with sales pitch experience but no management skills in a factory environment. So OFCOURSE you will be thrown around because all they care about is numbers not the actual workers.

They sent me a beautiful sarcastic email about being a ref for me and goodluck on finding a new job, also fired me before xmas AND because a family member was in hospital and " my few days off " due to that family member being in hospital. 



A typical day to day is attend to administration work, work on marketing material and create creative content for Franklyn. I do get to have the occasional small chat with colleagues who are usually out and about around the office throughout my day. I've also had some opportunity to have some chats with a few of the other members in the warehouse during lunch in the lunch room. The culture is great, it's got a 'family' feel where you can see that a lot of the members have been in the company for a number of years. Everyone is willing to help where they can. The office is set up really good with a great lunch room with all the amenities (yay free coffee!).

I met some amazing people working at Franklyn however there are bullies in administration in the installation department. After complaints from myself and several others, nothing was ever done as these bullies had been employed by the company for many years without career progression. So either management are fully aware of the issues or they don't promote from within. Unfortunately, the bullying far outweighed any positives. However they do have several vending machines with a variety of lunches, yummy snacks and drinks to choose from - probably the best thing I could say about my time there.

It was like a concentration camp. No music No talking. Because mistakes can be made, funny enough while I was there mistakes are made daily without music. There is no life in the place just a bunch of sad people trying to get through their day as quickly as possible. A cemetery has better vibes. Lots of former employees say avoid the place and I happen to agree with them. Look elsewhere!

some of the people are nice. A lot of gossiping and back stabbing . If people put the same energy into gossiping as to their work load the work they get would get   done and wouldn't have to get help all the time . A lot of jealously as well . But the work can be boring and repetitive as well .
 

The management at the company tend to get up tight on small things that have no effect on the level of production, you can tell that they think that they're trying to do their job in making the work place more productive but for the most part they end up just making everyones work experience worse and more difficult. Other than that the coworkers aren't bad.

Arrange booking and scheduling or all installers 26 in total, dealt with all complaint from customer who their product was incorrectly measured or product. Process the payment through eftpos mashine. hours
Negotiate with all different department to get the product done withing  -24 - 48 hours time.
Lots filing and inbound and outbound call.

Sweing machine operator its hard all day standing. Machine Should be learnt by everybody 
because pay is same for every new people. Not fair for everyone because only 2 or 3 operator got the overtime everyday. Our department have a not enough people so hard work for all operators. 

As a contractor , one is treated as such ! No love loss between Tradies and management. Sales Staff were not properly trained and only cared about getting top commission .

A great place to work as long as you don't question anything and just do as your told and even though they ask for overtime it is expected.. Hours are great
