Fantastic Furniture

There was always one team member who management felt they weren't performing or they simply didn't like, who they'd gossip about to the entire team or focus on getting fired. Could easily be considered workplace bullying or harassment. At the start of my employment, I was baited with questions, allowing them to complain or gossip further. I recently left because I disliked the culture and I felt I was the next in line, feeling enough was enough.

We were constantly reminded of our flaws and lack of performance rather than celebrating achievements. Instead of providing additional training or providing constructive help, they'd label you a problem, write you off, and proceed to create a case to kick you out the door, because that was the easiest choice for them. The area manager would even recommend that you leave whilst you still had the choice to do so.

Fed up, I and other members of staff were accused of being "The Problems of the store", as said to us by the regional manager, because we did not agree with the culture that management had created. It became a very negative environment with the store split into two, Management vs Staff. Management became unapproachable, with no empathy or care for anything or anyone. Everything was made to be a personal attack against them, rather than the constructive feedback that it was. They were right, you were wrong. It was like bashing your head against a brick wall, Pointless.

Work/Life balance was a joke. There was absolutely no way of forward planning your life as at times you'd only have 3 days left on your current roster, that changed every single week, with no consistency. Again, I felt management were unapproachable regarding rosters. The budgets and incentives were tailored to metro stores, making them difficult to achieve in a regional store. It was the same expectations across the board, with no leniency for needing to complete larger tasks outside of your usual day to day jobs.

Fantastic pay NO penalty rates, and they have their own award that undercuts the retail award, meaning no leave or time in lieu for working public holidays either, unless you've worked 4 in a year. 

The Ballarat store makes you feel welcomed and are nice to you, to begin with, but at some point they will show their true colors. They do not care about the personal wellbeing of their staff. This store has a terrible culture and will continue to do so until the management is provided with a major reality check. Providing additional training to management may ease tensions, but I believe they are and will always be stuck in their ways. 

I recently removed a similar review because I felt I was perhaps being cynical and/or over exaggerating. I also felt that I would be harassed and/or verbally attacked knowing the irrational emotion of the store manager. After rethinking this through, I believe the above is a fair representation of the flaws and issues that the Ballarat store face and they will continue to be so unless something is bought to the attention of the company.

Working at Fantastic Furniture was definitely not something for the faint heated. Customer care was a heavy job and clients were often not the nicest of people. When it came to the work culture, it felt like family. The team were highly supportive of each other and worked effectively as a team. We worked hard to maintain and fun but still strict work environment and gained knowledge of how a sales consultant earned their commission in a effective manner. I learned a lot about what hard work was.Constantly being on my feet has become a daily routine for the workers of Fantastic. The management team were very supportive and did whatever they could to ensure that working at Fantastic was a great experience. The most enjoyable part of work would be the work team. As i said before, the team were like family and we work very well together to produce quality results for the company. The hardest thing about the job was the customer service. Complaint were not easy, but we got through them with ease and came our satisfying the customers. Fantastic Furniture is a great place to work and achieve understanding and experience about marketing and sales.

On the sales floor it was upbeat, usually a steady pace of activity and a team effort. End of day close up was to leave everything ready to start a new day, fresh and organised.
I was exposed to all the product benefits, stock purchasing, stocktake, seasonal products, promotions, ordering timeframes, deliveries and a whole lot more.
I saw a lot more at Head Office regarding management. FF had a strong team effort and motivational events were  evident. The culture always strived for constant improvement but would offer tools to help individuals meet these goals.
Perhaps the hardest part of the job when I was on the sales floor would have been dealing with such customers who are wanting high end furniture in a value for money furniture store.
As the sales trainer, at times it was tough to motivate employees who only saw a job at FF as a pay packet and them not taking any pride in their ability to do well.
I enjoyed many aspects of my positions at FF. I must admit being able to help a customer achieve the look and feel they wanted for their home with our products was great. Being able to offer some creative input for those customers who are unsure what to put together was fun.

I held high hopes for this position but had to resign after 4 months. It may be different in other stores, but the work culture in the store I worked in was hostile. Because you aren’t paid penalty rates competition for sales is fierce and people will steal your sales.  Commission was good at Christmas time, but dies off during the year.  Even if you are an exceptional sales person, the shortfall between commission and what you should be paid in penalty rates does not add up. As  a permanent part time employee I was required to work all weekend, public holidays and extra hours when full time staff were sick or on leave. I had a great assistant manager in the first few months and the work culture was fun and productive, but he resigned when the regular store manager returned from leave and the atmosphere changed drastically. It may be different in other stores, but my experience in this store was not a pleasant one. Had I known, I would not have taken the job.

I recently resigned due to moving to a new town. Unfortunately where I am doesn’t have a fantastic otherwise I did have the option to transfer and I definitely would have if I could have. It’s been a month since I finished there and I was there for 14 months. I miss the place and the people.
The store was new and only in action for about 5 months before I was hired and it was my first job back into the workforce after 5 years of being a stay at home mother.
My boss was amazing. Passionate and encouraging. It was so good to be under the management of such a person. Head office was active and engaging. A workplace like a said that really cares. Even work/life balance was important. My boss and team accommodated myself and others during our tough times and it was the first job I actually felt valued at. My only criticism is that I wasn’t able to work full time, I was only part time. I still popped in often on days off just….because!! Haha!

A typical day at work was to count till and open store. Greet all customers within 3 minutes and assist in any way. Answer phones within 3 rings, general house cleaning , ticketing, putting stock on floor, selling to the customer, dealing with any customer complaints and booking in deliveries.
New manager 2 months ago, has a great impact on store and has great work ethics.
Co-workers were great to work with and all seemed to get along well.
The hardest part was not being able to get 2 weekends off per month as this is when I only get my daughter.
Most enjoyable part is I got to meet some lovely people through work and made some good friends.
Had worked previously with this company for 17 months.

Nothing cause management at Fantastic Furniture Fairfield East  it not professional they treat worker unfairly especially the Floor Manager and his team

Favourable doesn't if you work hard they don't appreciate it they pick their family instead of people who know how to do the work properly

Unfairly treatment  even though you have the skill but they pick someone else because it there family or friend 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Monday is the busy day and Tuesday  . Wednesday work is slow down Thursday and Friday not busy

After being trained in Burleigh where everything was amazing, the team, the fun, the work ethic, the love, the management everything! To then coming to the The mackay store where the team are okay. However the management of the Mackay store need to be fixed. They have no empathy and no care for their employees. It’s just work, work work. Myself and another employee left not long after due to the management. Probably more have left as well since then. I remember the team didn’t get along very well and everyone talked behind people’s back. Wouldn’t recommend working at the MACKAY store.

A typical day at work

Walk showroom with store manager, discuss plans made prior and work to be done during time spent in store

Carry out work, with staff involvement, delegate, write to do list for staff to improve quality and presentation of store, Analyse sales performance of new and existing products and make day to day decisions on their position on the showroom floor

Walk through with manager at days end explain your actions and get feedback, let the manager know about plans for future visits

The job it self is self rewarding, the freedom of the role is enjoyable and the ability to get creative and forward thinking. The hardest part is the long hours and extended time away from family.

This place has to be one of the worst places to work at. All of the sales team members only care about making commission, and don't follow the ethics set by the company. There is disharmony between sales staff, as everyone wants to outdo one another. The offsite warehouse is not any better, with staff not wanting to work, and waiting for someone else do the work they are supposed to do. Changes are not likely to be made, as the main motive of this place it seems, is to make profit.
