EF Education First

The quality of both the management and teaching colleagues at EF Brisbane was second to none. The spirit of mutual support and collaboration that was encouraged and fostered from the top down inspired the highest standards of excellence and professionalism in everyone. I couldn't have asked for any more from the casual teaching position I enjoyed, and would highly recommend working with this company to anyone who is looking for a great work-life balance - especially those of a creative bent, who also have other avenues of activity to pursue.

They have ‘spins’ which are silly classes management have created- everyone hates them and they often don’t make sense 

Peers are your only help - and they are good. When I was there - I was only there for a couple of months - 7 teachers left - they’re struggling to recruit, only foreign people or those new to the industry want to work here. I now understand why!

It looks good, but there’s a lot of issues - keep your other options open if you decide to work here.

The relocation of EF Executive courses to Hills road has been a disaster for teachers and students alike: Breaks down from 20 mins to 10; lunch down from 1 hour to 40mins; unpaid meetings during breaks; cuts in activity payments; 3 hour training sessions, with dubious relevance to teaching, on Friday afternoons (which is absolutely contrary to the prevailing wisdom regarding wellbeing in the workplace and work-life balance).
Inept, passive-aggressive top management.

Depends where you're working, but generally you're pretty expendable. In Sydney you are hired for 10 weeks at a time and can then be let go without notice. Pay is abysmal and holidays are not paid. Management know they have you by the balls. Working overseas (in my case, China) is better in the sense that you're contracted for a longer period and the pay is good by local standards... you're still quite expendable and they don't do much to keep you there - they expect you to re-sign with them but give you no incentive to do so. If you work for EF, be sure that you're doing it on your own terms.

I stayed there for 4 months or so. Colleagues always ready to help answer questions or support in preparing classes. Management were professional and showed signs of improving themselves during any discussions and teacher reviews.
One thing I did not like is the expectation regarding the huge amount of work after-hours regarding preparing for classes.
There was also 0 on the job training. You were expected to know what you're doing as soon as you walked through the doors.
I left but didn't feel there were any serious career prospects had i stayed.

Great place to work, but be prepared to work in the evenings and on weekends. International markets. 

Work culture is fun and great financial support for events and activities.
Expectations on staff and delivery of products a little unrealistic however I'm sure they know what they are doing.

The company has several effective values among them are Professionalism, Efficiency and Consistency. The most enjoyable part of the job was the flexibility that the company offers for its employees in terms of setting their availability.

well, everyday at work is a new experience but with people that are so funny and a nice and calm place all is better, with the courage of everyday work i learn a lot about the culture in australia and much more.

You feel very supported as a teacher with the collaborative culture. I've definitely benefitted from the mentoring from more experienced teachers. Would recommend!

Good place to work, interesting students and good pay. I worked as a casual sub and this worked great for me. Students are varied and interesting. Overall a good place to work.
