Training officers in the classrooms are knowledgeable, patient and lovely. They make the students feel welcome and at ease. In contrast, the trainers in the actual collection centres can be rude and put a lot of pressure on trainees. Perhaps, only the one trainer that was assigned to me. The trainer expected me to be able to work on my own within the first week of being out there at the collection centre. It was very stressful that it started affecting me mentally and emotionally. 

Plenty of learning materials to take home for studying are provided, however, the important ones are not, such as the medical tests and medications. For this reason, it is almost impossible to work on your own within timeframes at week 7. While it is true that you can ask your trainer next door and/or look up the tests in the computer, that would take a long time and that means making the patients wait. Since trainees are still learning, they should be able to access these materials online anytime, not just when they are at work. 

Overall, it was a massive waste of time and money from getting the First Aid Certificate to getting the vaccinations done, as required for this job. Hopefully this company improves its training program before even anyone gets seriously injured from unskilled blood collectors!

Good atmosphere to work in, but during the day shift only. All of the pathology staff were friendly and capable. The hospital staff were less friendly and less competent than I was used to. The nurses were rude and did not know how to collect blood and most of the experienced ones refused during the night shift leaving ALL of the hospital's collections in the afternoon/evenings to the lone lab staff member. Lab manager was lovely but the division of hours in the roster was terrible. All of the day shifts were unfairly reserved for the long term staff and the remaining shifts were on a short notice chop and change arrangement. Be prepared to lose your weekend as you won't get two days off in a row. High new staff turn over. Public transport timing was horrible and there were just enough parking spaces for everyone with the exception of the afternoon staff member. I was not the first and I won't be the last to leave during my probation period, of that I am certain. Pay was low but adequate for the role however it was insufficient for the stresses associated with out of regular business hours operations. Even though I have no dependant children I can say this role will not be good for someone with a family or a partner.

The worst place I have ever worked. I would not recommend this workplace to my worst enemy. The staff are toxic, backstabbing and ill-meaning (borderline malicious) and will take any opportunity to engage in idle gossip about fellow staff members and spread false rumours. Management are aware of this culture and take no active measures to intervene. Staff are overworked and underpaid significantly. For a private company that capitalises majorly on the laboratory tests conducted, staff should be shown more appreciation and paid accordingly....especially considering the toxic work culture they are subjected to. My mental health had never taken such a decline than when I worked at DHM, I dreaded every minute I was there. It was evident that I was not in good mental health and all higher management did was work me harder, never expressing any concern or willingness to help. Career progression is all based on internal workplace politics, not based on competency of staff members. Do yourself a favour and look for a job elsewhere. Unemployment is better than the health decline you will experience from working for DHM.

The education system, the supportive supervisors, the pathology service provided and working alongside other trainees. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The most stressful part of working with the company was the fact that some customers had no idea of what to expect when embarking upon the pathology collection. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
In stressful situations the permanent staff were very stressed and unsupportive. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
A typical day started late cbecause the senior collector arrived 5 minutes before opening time. This did not allow time for any computer log on issues which were a regular occurrence. The logging into programs and information on computer systems was way too slow.

If you are not liked by management they bully you. You can, at times, work on your own with grand expectations to succeed at the impossible. No appreciation or compliments for your hard work. You do everything from reception to cleaning to specimen reception to data entry as well as you collecting job all for  Bad pay, and just about no chance of an increase. Years of service and ability to perform your job extremely well or do extra/restricted  procedures are not taken into account for pay increases.  If you are liked by management and have no voice or opinion of your own you will be given a higher wage than someone with years of excellent qualifications, loyalty and experience.

A complete lack of empathy to anyone neurodivergent.

I struggle  to see a future here. Zero interest in helping staff seek growth or a potential career path. For a company this large there seems to be very little opportunity. 

Pockets of great staff that are doing their best. Overshadowed by managers holding an iron grip on what they can control.

There  isn't any. They are very ruthless

Answering phones as there was always something wrong.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Work culture was very "clicked" . If you didn't fit in withe the group of women that you worked with then you no longer worked there.
Also very stressful.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Always busy and stressful. Always had deadlines

I enjoy where I work as we have all become like a little family to one another. However, the day-to-day job activities are mundane and repetitive and are not stimulating, challenging or exciting enough and I feel I am not using my skills and abilities to their full capabilities. I am not challenged enough and I get bored at work. I do feel I have learnt all there is to learn with this particular job role.

Run run run!!! One of the worst jobs as a collector you are used to work for worst bad low pay. Mangers rubbish people 
It’s not only bloods collecting they make you do everything 
They train you but treat you like children in the room
Change all the old mangers and training staff
You can tell the are over their job

Start early work fast and safe with a good team attitude with co-workers.Learn every day on the job about people and new technology. Liaise with management as needed. The emotional side of peoples illness can be hard, but five patients later your back on track. The end of the day is the best you know you have helped people in some way shape or form.
