Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary

Most incredible wildlife keeping environment i have ever experienced... Everything; medical equipment, animal satisfaction, grounds maintenance, customer satisfaction, cleanliness & size of park. 
Every day would be slightly different as all animals kept had different living environments which made each job like a new challenge... 
I learnt a lot of different diets for exotic animals and what their daily life & reproductive tendencies were like.
Management also loved their job which kept them in a state of happiness id never seen in any working environment.
The hardest part of the job was leaving at the end of the day and getting too attached to the animals kept. Sweeping kangaroo enclosure had a lot of sand dust which would catch in lungs and make it hard to breathe.
Most enjoyable part was learning the different personalities in all animals kept.

As I live quite far away from Currumbin, it usually takes at least 30-40 minutes for me to drive there (on a good day). However, as most shifts require me to leave during rush hour or right before rush hour, it usually will take me around 1-1.5 hours to drive there. Knowing that, rostering still only gives me 4 hour shifts. Therefore, for a 4 hour shift, I have to travel a total of 3 hours. I have asked for longer shifts but rostering seems to have just ignored that.

I was also asked to fill out some information that was needed for me to actually be able to work there (TFN, ABN etc.). I filled it out and handed it to the manager. A couple days later, I received an email saying that I still haven't filled that information out. Turns out my manager lost all my paperwork with confidential information on there.

Walk to the front to check if the pies and icecream have been placed out for display already 
I'll go into the event room to set up for the buffet, Ill get out:
Water
Stock-up on: sugar, tea, coffee,cups, milk, spoons
Fill urns and turn them on
Place cutlery out
I'll go down stairs with a clipboard handed to my to stockup the cafe at the front such as drinks, coffee, coffee cups, tea, suguar, garbage bags, alcohol etc.
Hardest part is cleaning up after the buffet.
I enjoy the people i work with, its like family.

Worst place to work ever. 
The animals are the only good thing about that place. 
They under pay and over work staff, they bully and put them down and make life very difficult if they don't like you. They play favourites often and punish people they don't like by giving them bad jobs or minimal hours. 
I never got paid my over time and they only ever supplied me with one work shirt in over two years. awful place to work. Eats away at your soul and life.

A typical work day would include general cleaning and labouring (digging holes and fixing pavements etc). The other volunteers at the Currumbin Wildlife are really great and friendly people. I haven't heard of a single piece of negative feedback from them. The hardest part of the job is the physical side of the workload but that's what makes the day so much better as i get to get out there and be physical as well as learn new things from the people around me and the animals they handle.

The multitude of events, shows and attractions include dingo encounters, free flight bird shows and even crocodile feeding of the park's massive saltwater crocodile. The park also contains a serious aspect of its work and exhibits, and behind the scenes includes a state-of-the-art veterinary and rehabilitation hospital where thousands of sick and injured animals are brought every day.

Great workplace. The hours are great and the job can be tailored to you. The work colleagues are among the greatest I’ve ever met. Very fun atmosphere. Management and supervisor level however needs to listen to staff more. Many employees were driven away, myself one of them, because of the management and their attitudes.

My jobs included tours around the outside of the vet hospital, helping during shows - especially the wild lorikeet feeding, escorting mascots, supervising the kangaroo paddock (incl. occasional cleaning). I loved showing tourists around and was extremely proud of my work place, even if I was just a volunteer. I wouldn't have left if I hadn't had to move away.

This is the best job I’ve ever had. I feel so comfortable working here and there’s been quite a few opportunities to progress. Most of the staff are super friendly, even when you don’t work in the same department. Can definitely see myself working here for years to come. 

I can't comment on the Salary/ Benefits as I was a volunteer, beside that   I enjoyed every moment when I was there, I met lots of people from all over the world, learning about the wild life, gain skills and knowledge in Hospitality and the Tourism industry.
