I was offered a position as a Business Support Officer at the Department of Community Development, but without my knowledge or consent, I was placed in a Relief Support Officer role. Unfortunately, I never got a clear explanation from the employer when I asked for clarification why this happened.

Although my contract stated I was employed as a Business Support Officer, I ended up working as a Relief Officer. During my time in this role- 4 months, I had four different coordinators. 
I worked full-time hours but didn’t have a full-time desk in there.

In my final conversation with a manager, I was unexpectedly given unsolicited advice about the Law of Attraction. While I’m familiar with it and don’t believe in it, I found the conversation unprofessional and out of place. 

Some people at the council were unfriendly, and one individual even made remarks about my last name, which had never happened to me in any of my previous jobs.




My experience working at The City of Melville was marked by several concerning issues. Firstly, the recruitment process was full mistakes and confusion regarding my position, leading to uncertainty about my role within the organization.

During my time there, I observed unprofessional behavior from the coordinator, who frequently used offensive language in the workplace. 

Additionally, I encountered disrespectful remarks about my last name from a coworker, which is unacceptable in any professional setting.

Furthermore, the training provided was inadequate. The materials and instructions given were outdated.

Overall The City of Melville needs improvement in the organization's internal processes and culture.


A typical day at work consisted of driving around the assigned area of the community observing safety and security issues and resolving them. And getting periodic call-out from local residents.
I leaned to communicate to people both within and outside the organization.
The workplace culture was adverse since all the employees within the service was from all parts of the world.
The hardest part of the job was the hours. It was shift work and 12 hour shifts at that.. Rotation was sometimes hard to handle.
The most enjoyable part of the job was getting to know all the council members.

Many different fashions in top management. Cultural differences are not handled due to favoritism and minority are not treated well. Staff are friendly and enjoyable part of the job. The hardest part is working for management who are not supportive. A typical day of work involves conducting analysis on improvement issues with process owners and assist them with new actions.

Customer Service has lots of diversity within the role, working with many different departments and making a difference to the community.  I really enjoy working with the community and building really good working relationships.

Staff at the coal face are fantastic people, unfortunately that is where it stops. Management is top heavy and do not support staff. Culture of lying intimidation bullying and self gain. Don't even think about raising an issue as then you become a target.

I loved working at Melville as the workplace culture was excellent.  There were many opportunities for increasing my skills.  The people and Social Club were on the ball and friendly.

Friendly team. Given directives of expectations and small induction, basically left to myself to achieve targets.
Daily brief to manager.
Contract went longer than expected due to personell shortage and positive feed back.


Effective management is observed in certain departments, though consistently high levels of activity are maintained throughout. However, it's noteworthy that the compensation is comparatively lower than that offered by other local governments in the area.

Ideal place to work. 
Management was helpful and friendly and everyone was given encouragement and positivy at all times.
