If you're looking for a job where you can be overworked, underpaid, and underappreciated, look no further! This company prides itself on squeezing every ounce of energy out of its employees while giving nothing in return.

Expect your workload to double or triple with no extra pay, and if you dare to ask for a break? Forget it. Need a day off? They’ll schedule you for 20 days straight instead because closing the store is apparently not an option. Short-staffed? No problem—just work alone and figure it out yourself!

Promotions? Growth? Recognition for hard work? Only if you’re an expert at brown-nosing. Hard work means nothing here, but if you flatter the right people, you might get a pat on the back. They also have a keen eye for judging people based on looks rather than skills, so be prepared for that special brand of toxic workplace culture.

And let’s not forget their gold-medal-worthy empty promises. Raises? Advancement? Support? Just words to keep you hanging on a little longer.

They don’t just ignore their employees' well-being—they actively destroy it. Mental health? They couldn’t care less. Burnout, exhaustion, stress? Not their problem. They’ll push you to your breaking point, and when you finally snap, they’ll just replace you with someone else to run into the ground.

No wonder they can’t retain staff—just look around. Everyone is miserable. Instead of blaming employees for leaving, maybe take a good hard look at yourselves and ask why even your long-standing workers are walking away. That’s not a coincidence—it’s a reflection of how badly this place is run and sorry but that comes from the top.

Poor salary for very experienced managers. Run on skeleton crew constantly and have no buffer for team being sick or on annual leave but expect the highest possible level of service. Managers will be held to account for mystery shopper results, even if there aren't enough team to go around. 

Poor logistics management and stock takes ages to arrive from the warehouse but team get hounded for trying to keep customers happy by sourcing from other stores because of the extra freight cost. 

Budgets keep getting increased unrealistically so bonuses are a non event. 

Management do no personal development outside of annual reviews for store managers and there is zero career progression unless you choose to kiss butt. Be prepared to work hard, have a steep learning curve and work on your RDOs because the company keeps cutting wages. 

I made many great friends during my time at Beacon. The initial learning curve is very steep and it's easy to get overwhelmed, but there's always someone to help out. 
The state manager was very unhelpful and caused a lot of issues during my time there, but the other store managers, my and other teams were always happy to assist.

The hardest part of the job was being stretched so thin but having the same expectations as better resourced stores.

If you're looking for progression above store management, Beacon won't be it for you as there is nothing readily available above Store Manager. However, if you're looking to get up to store management or just want something with a real technical challenge, you will do really well to pick Beacon for your next job. You will learn huge amounts and you really do get to change people's lives through lighting. It's quite inspirational.

I open and close the store most mornings, ensure each till ballances for the day ahead. Follow up any e-mails that have been sent over night including purchase orders for key trade accounts, delayed arrival dates of stock currently on order and many more. I also look after interstore transfers ensuring they are correct for the end of month procedures. I work with the store owner, Store manager and Assistant manager, there is myself and then the casuals to cover shifts and weekend work. For me, the hardest part is understanding a few particular requirments when running outdoor lighting. The most enjoyable is being able to see your completed home lighting design plans and the satisfied customer.

very technical sales role, a large range of stock and very high knowlegde expected by the demanding customers. 

when the store management was working with the staff as a team it was a dynamic role. very demanding and complex with some of the rudest customers I've ever dealt with. 

sadly corporate management viewed any stores' failings as the fault of the store and its management. regardless of the actual cause, which was often their systems and processes.

for the last few years i was in the store all staff from managers to casuals were looking for other work. bullying is also an issue

Working with Beacon has been amazing. You learn so much, despite it being very overwhelming and technical at the start, you still learn a new thing everyday! 

The best part is the people you work with. Never have I dealt with such caring, kind co workers who care about you. Everyone makes the effort to know you are trained well and will always lend a helping hand. Even state managers bond and socialise with you, it made me feel like a human being rather than a number!!! 

Too many stores and too few team members. I worked in an unfortunately positioned chain with no visibility and no local awareness. This meant minimal sales any given day. Executives ordered reduced rostering and all team members, casuals included, had vast responsibilities. We were still expected to make unreasonable budgets. 

Workplace culture differs depending on where you are, so feel free to organise a transfer if you mesh better with another store's team. 



Beacon have an online training package that you can log into during work hours. There was also on the job training to learn about individual products. A typical day would be to come and check emails and orders, get any deliveries sorted out and then clean and attend to the show room floor. Customer service is always the priority. The hardest part of the job was remembering 6 digit sky # for each product. The most enjoyable part was helping people to find a solution to their lighting needs.

I am currently employed at beacon lighting and love going to work every day. I work with an amazing team. I have advanced from casual team member to store manager in five years .there is a lot of product knowledge  to learn  and   every day  is  different. I love  the challenges  of ensuring customers  get  the perfect lighting needs for their home or business. I would  recommend  working  at Beacon Lighting  to anyone who prides themselves on their  sales skills, customer service, outgoing  personality and their ability  to learn and retain knowledge.

It's a sales job with a more retail aspects.
Beacon lighting does not take great care of its employees unless you are a store manager, you are expected to do most of their job while they write emails most of the day and then get scorned for missing one thing when you do a great job. its very "i am not on shift tomorrow so it's no longer my problem" culture as well, not a lot of team work but once you find a good team the vibe is very different but usually its the difference between a good and or lazy manager.
