Banjos Bakery Cafe

I started at Banjos with the sense that I would be doing customer service. However, I soon realised that all the after school hires (mostly teenagers) were there to clean. I was annoyed but thought it might be ok as it wasn't too hard. I had witnessed managers getting annoyed over the state of cleanliness which annoyed me as we were not trained as cleaners (state over the toilet).  I wasn't shown anything by the managers, rather some other workers who must've felt bad for me. I hardly got to serve as most of the managers did that- they left the cleaning to the sales assistants. The other workers were nice however, they all felt annoyed about the cleaning so it was nice to be in a job with people who agreed. Nothing wrong with the customers or the other employees.

Between applying and getting the job I had a back injury meaning I couldn't do certain tasks that were asked of me, the management didn't care to understand and just said it was in the job description (which was fair and true but most workplaces cater to disabilities), I worked after school with school kids who had excellent communication skills with customers but not with other coworkers, I was expected to clean the store in 3 hours which wasn't nearly enough time as the other employees would slack of meaning I'd have have to make up for their cleaning. I was put off because of covid and told I would be called again when my job was available, I got a voice message 8 months later saying I was put on a roster with no other context or communication 

Simply put I wouldn't recommend the Devonport store to my worst enemy, the franchisee was one of the most unfair and full of himself employers I have ever met, he was hypocritical picked ovbious favourites and has very unprofessional work relations with one of his employees. As for working with my Co workers, so many were snobbish and full of the self it made it hard to enjoy working with any of them. I wouldn't recommend this job to anyone, it's honestly terrible and I stuck it out for 2 years hoping it would get better, boy was I wrong. 

A typical day at work would involve cleaning, waitressing, serving customers, handling money, giving correct change and restocking food and drinks. At Banjos Bakery Cafe I learned how to work well at a till, whist also being responsible for cleaning and restocking. I also learned to work well in a team with the other friendly staff.
The management at Banjos Bakery Cafe could have been better.
The hardest part of the job was definitely multitasking, which is my strong point.
The most enjoyable part of the job would have to be working with my co-workers as a team to get things done.

was overall an alright experience however to much cleaning is expected as a sales assistant. you are trained nothing from managers or trainees rather other employees who feel bad and show you how to do it. not enough hours are given each week and sometimes only 1 shift a week so i recommend having a second job if you want to work here as the hours are unreliable i sometimes work on 3 hours a week 

Working at Banjos was great work for a step into the working life. An average day I would work a five hour shift either doing dishes, interacting with customers, tidying and cleaning all areas. 
Very professionally run by the owners. The culture there is really great, everyone is happy to show up to work and the atmosphere there is great. 
Hardest part of the job would be avoiding taking home the free food! 
Most enjoyable part would be all the great food and bonuses working there brings.

Everything about this job is stressful, it’s the atmosphere and people that make it that way

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Not great, I wouldn’t recommend it 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Walk in, get judged by your boss, do your work, walk out

Getting paid minimum wage to do more than two people's job made it really hard to work there. Manager was constantly sittign in office and letting sales staff do all the work. If needed to change shift or call in sick, management made you feel guilty and pressured you to take another shift instead. Overall would not recommend working for this place!!!!!

I really enjoyed working at Banjo's. The staff members became my family and I completed my certificate III in Hospitality. It was great to work as part of a team with people that supported my long term goals. Without the understanding of my managers, I wouldn't be in my position today. I was given the opportunity to learn so much and would recommend it to anyone else that is looking for a job within a hospitality team.

A typical day at work involved me arriving there at 1am, I came to work but it was also good to chat with the other baker on shift and share stories, I got on well with the manager, I think the best part about the job was the learning curve and gaining the experience in the work force, the hardest bit of the job for me was adjusting to waking up at 12am everyday.
