When I started working at the ABC some years ago now it was a hype of activity with a good range of senior and junior staff with the ability to receive good training and options to extend your skills.
Fast forward to today and it is extremely badly managed. Most managers have no managerial experience and no interest in doing so. They are out to look after themselves and friends and making sure they come under budget in order to get bonuses. At the same time they are actively getting rid of the more senior staff members and hiring young cheap staff, who quickly realise they are being screwed and move on to a job with substantially more money. 
Staff are leaving in droves. I've never seen so many leave nor have I seen such disrespect for management , but rightly so as they address no issues, if you raise a concern that goes against the ideas of management you become marked and they will actively try to get you.ti leave one way of the other. They will openly lie in order to get their way. 
Junior staff are not trained and expected just to know what to do. It's been a very sad demise of what was a great pilublic broadcaster. It's now jobs for the boys, I mean for the girls.

On  a daily basis I either catalogue the news from the previous day across several ABC programs. Apart from the actual cataloguing details which need to be checked are metadata linking records to the their related vision, assuring standard vocabulary and metadata is correct and any foreign agency vision is noted as restricted as well as selecting ABC vision for archive which may not have been broadcast but is valuable for reuse.

 I also provide research for journalists, e.g locating archival footage and ingesting the material either from tape or from digital archives. This role also includes selecting raw material for archive, quality check of both metadata and file names according to organisation wide standards, searching schedules for programs and their related metadata. 

I used various databases to both catalogue and research including media asset management systems, ingesting vision from tape into digital format, archiving and restoring vision in our databases.

During my work experience in the ABC, the employees there were very kind and the atmosphere was very productive. The workplace culture was consistent throughout the building and this included some viewings of their TV shows, merchandise and posters. My typical days included spending an hour or so exploring the different fields of the workplace, including some of the employees demonstrating the processes that occurred in their field. The most enjoyable part of the job was understanding how each detail of the workplace co-existed with the larger processes of development and production.

The ABC isn't really one organisation but a confederation of departments and units which have vastly different styles and cultures. Some areas are fast moving and as advanced as anywhere I've worked. In others you could be in the backwaters of the public service. Having said that if you're flexible, interested in media and up for a challenge it's a great place to work.

I have worked here for over 15 years. 
The workplace used to be amazing but now there is extremely limited opportunity for career progression.

The management  structure has been filled with yes people leaving zero room for discussion and issues are just dismissed rather than addressed.

Budget cuts have gutted most of the good operators and staff turn over is high as people just burn out. 

A typical day at work was always a surprise because I had to expect to not have expectations.
The workplace culture was great as we were metaphorically just  one big family, and we all mucked in to make the wheels turn without exception.

What’s so great about using VR? Well, it’s really easy to use – as easy as using a smartphone. It creates a passion about learning because we’re trying something new. And associates are better able to retain what they’ve learned.
Yeah, it’s cool. But it actually works. And it’s all thanks to a little football.

It's a bottom up culture where employees are expected to change the environment in the face of rusted on managers who resist change. The worker is always wrong and the management are always in each others pockets covering there derriere. Most managers keep a muck file on employees and pull it out when you offer up ideas they disagree with.

It's the best and worst place to work all wrapped up in one. Some of the most rewarding work I have ever done combined with some of the biggest challanges which were in large part created by the HR department which is ironically called ABC People
