As mentioned a hard working group of people who I thoroughly enjoyed working with. Work commenced a 6.30 am, and a usual day would start checking and responding to emails, then placing any urgent orders. Most of my time was spent with the mundane data entry of the purchasing/receipting and account coding of the hundreds of orders/delivery dockets and invoices.
The maintenance crew were knowledgeable, helpful and experienced operators. 
Hardest part of the job initially was the account coding- trying to interpret invoices from intrastate branches and it took some time in my first few months to gain the accuracy required. 
The enjoyment of the job came as procedures I put in place took a lot of guess work out of the data entry/coding and the eventual smooth flow of the paperwork. Including pre printed req's, insistence of written req's for all puchases, on line purchasing with favoured suppliers.

Onesteel has targets and is very clear on what they hold as their Core Values being Customer and Safety equally.
My day would start before I get in the door with schedulers asking for customer needs and me having to organize this and making it happen.
I will then do the rounds from machine to machine making sure any maintenance requirements were organised and then checking the progress of schedules being produced in relation to trucks being loaded or coming up for loading.
My next step would be to check on the progress of the loading bay and where the loading team is at in relation to the dispatch plan.
Management and co-workers are good.
The hardest and the the most enjoyable part of the job is the day to day challenges and meeting sometimes impossible deadlines.

•	Administer performance management by diagnosing improvement opportunities, providing effective feedback, coaching, training, professional development, and corrective action plans. 
•	Deal with a variety of areas of the business including 41 Sales Representatives, Despatch, Planning department and varied areas/levels of management.
•	Provide customer service excellence and technical support on telephony systems. 
•	Process Annual Leave, liaise with Workforce Planning in regards to rostering issues, process time sheets and liaise with Payroll in regards to pay issues.
•	Conduct disciplinary conversations with staff when needed.
•	Present improvement ideas for Sales & Service to business managers.
•	Run weekly complex reports to present to management.
•	Ensure both Core Values – Safety and the Customer and all other policies within the business are being adhered too.

I learned that every co-worker- employee is a different personality and character with different styles of management required to deal with .

Supervision of 19 operators and inclusion of 16 finishing end operators during night shift and weekends, including all administrative tasks. Leadership of all operators to achieve and maintain company KPI’s related to throughput, yield and quality of structural mill rolling program. Maintain safety performance in line with minimum targets, including investigation and resolution of incidents and accidents, with specific focus on continuous improvement. Ensuring shift capabilities and stability by ongoing training and finding cover for staff absences. Liaison with maintenance and development departments to highlight operational risks. This involved follow-up of requests and attending maintenance downtime to supervise and control maintenance tasks.

i enjoyed my time at One steel, learning to operate heavy machinery, heavy rigid trucks, the ups and down of customer service and a strong focus on safety procedures.  In a typical day I could be serving Non-Ferrous customers (unloading, weighing and grading products) in the morning and operating plant machinery in the afternoon.
My co-workers and management were a pleasure to work with and always fair and understanding.
The hardest part if this job was the customer service, on occasion staff would suffer insults and threats due to pricing issues, uncontrollable buy floor staff. The better parts of the job would involve helping and meeting great new people through large customer and staff base at One-steel.

our day was always busy, hi speed production mills constantly kept us focused, there was never a day went by that you didn't learn something new or tested your previous knowledge, management certainly held us responsible for targets in a safe and timely manner, I worked with a good bunch of guys who took pride in the product they made and always looked out for each others safety, managing our targets first pass prime, knowing we all made an effort to apply our knowledge and experience and passing it on to other employees to ensure all our safety with positive behaviour driving a good safe culture

Engaged in a 2 month vacation work at the open pit dolomite mine at Ardrossan. 
A typical day involved either working at the office on daily reporting and scheduling, with the drill and blast crew, crushing and screening plant or with maintenance. 
I learned that team work and communication are the most critical skills required to be successful in the mining industry.
The work culture was of the highest standard and the friendly and welcoming nature of the staff made the daily routine far more enjoyable then I had anticipated.
The hardest part was being away from family and friends.
The most enjoyable part was the close relationships that I was able to build with the workers and the management.

The day to day task's included coaching and mentoring employees towards a zero incident/accident site, daily review with staff.

What I learned is that no two days are the same, expect to be challenged in maintaining a safe working environment.

The need and requirement for management and your co-workers to support and walk the talk for a zero incident / accident culture.

The hardest part of the role was to keep all aligned in our journey towards a zero incident / accident culture.

The most enjoyable part of the role was to watch how at different levels of staff and employees walk the talk demonstrating the safety requirement of themselves and their workmates .

The company has just laid off almost 600 people (200 internally and 400 from imbedded contractors) and has written off $1.3Billion dollars.  The share price was as low as $0.15 - They are located in Whyalla, South Australia and seem to have the idea they are a much bigger company than is actually the case - I faced bullying and harassment frequently and they are currently trying to do more with fewer operational staff - They will soon face full compliance with current EPA regulations which I believe will pose severe difficulties that they may well struggle to overcome having worked under an 'Exemption' from such compliance for many years
