When I'm at work as an AIN it's all about respecting my co-workers' space, clients and their families, beliefs, culture and dismissing judgments as we are all from different backgrounds. I am more then willing to learn from others either through by their life experiences or training at work. What I have learnt is that as we have different backgrounds we may not see things the same way because of our life experiences.


When I am at work I have to follow the terms and conditions and assigning to the duties that I am assigned to, making sure that I complete a task at an expected time and also punctuality being the most important thing to follow at all times.The hardest part of my job has always been about losing a client ie. being critically ill and then they pass away and this is something that no one can ever get used to because taking care of an individual is all about seeing them being well or getting better if they were unwell.

The most enjoyable part of my job is building rapport and/or new friendships. Also working with others hand in hand as a team; respecting each other and also assisting each other when one needs assistance.

As an Assistant in nursing (AIN) I participated in non-clinical care for patients in hospitals and residents in nursing homes for eleven to twelve years approx. I have nurtured to care for people in need of care with such things as assisting with their hygiene and groom, toiling for the elderly of mobility conflicted patients, feeding and alerting other professional staff of any patient/resident or visitor concerns.
I have learned team work with co-workers which can be an essential part of the majority of work as an AIN. Also experienced in working autonomously as well.
The Hardest part of work was to work with challenging behaviours from patient/resident/clients and co-workers, who experienced different situations, expected in this type of environment in the caring industry.
The most enjoyable part of the job is getting some appreciation form patients/resident/clients or co-workers, for some of the assistance done during the day or at the end of a shift or week.

I gained valuable experience in this facility such as what to expect from other co workers, being assertive and communicating effectively. My proactive approach enabled me to undertake the required tasks at hand, although I felt unsupported from management and some staff, I always put the residents first and it was important for me to always be there for them.

A typical day was busy from start to finish with allocated times and jobs to be completed. At the end of a shift, paperwork was completed.

The most enjoyable part of my job was putting a smile on the face of the residents I was caring for. Taking some time out in my busy schedule to sit down and have a chat when all the jobs were complete. Making them feel special. Offering a supportive word or a hug when appropriate.

Working with other colleagues at this work place is great as everyone is well communicated and easy to work with. My ability to work with other people has improved each shifted as it is the best way to make work lighter. Management keep the place flowing well from monday - friday, with a friendly involvement to all staff. Work can become hard and heavy on the unfortunate short staffed days or periods of spreading illness between the residents, but with the help of other co workers we always managed to pull through the shift well. Overall the biggest joy to this job is seeing the elderly at their happiest of times; smiling with family, sining along to classical tunes or participating in extra activities such as bingo.

From my previous AIN job, a typical day at work for me would consist of the normal routine such as greeting patients, showering them, getting them prepared for any activities for the day, and so on. 
However, for me getting to spend time with patients individually is very special as you get to talk to them and see what they are thinking about. I really enjoyed conversing with patients and looking after them. 
From what I have learned I know that I will not let anyone force me to do what I think is not legally right for myself and for the patient. For instance giving patients the care they deserve. 
But for the most part, I really enjoyed working at aged care as for me delivering care to these individuals gives me comfort that I have helped someone in need.

Good workplace atmosphere with  wonderful Residents and their family and staff. Funny Residents to work with on a good day.
Some workmate are not supportive while some are very supportive.
Mangers of the facility has been changed twice in the last 3 years. Workload increased by Management and causes staff to be overloaded with work and tired, thereby calling in sick many times.
Roster is a mess on many fortnight. 
One Resident  sometimes refuse cares from some carers. Residents are lovely and funny on a good day, except when they are sick or emotionally or mentally disturbed.

heaps of work but very physical and underpaid and people burn out rather fast if not looking after them self, but rewarding to look after the older generation. Some places are better then others to work in , sadly some people are there for the wrong reason and dont work as a team, Some workers still have the high school mentality and dont appreciate new staff coming in and work place bullying still happens, so staff are scared to report things especially if the  place has bad management. But if you can find a good place the work will always be regular and you develop some good friends in your fellow work mates and you will get close to residents.

I am passionate about senior care. It is always humbling at the end of a shift, knowing that you have given care but also one on one companionship...even if its 5 minutes. I think every day there is always something new to learn in this industry. I believe in care for our Aged being mindful to complete tasks such as personal cares within an allocated time. Sometimes its hard when the client just wants to talk, but I have been in that situation and was still able to complete my duties and give some personal attention as well.
