I joined APM Employment Services Cairns Region with high hopes and enthusiasm, drawn in by the promise of a supportive work environment. Unfortunately, my experience fell far short of expectations.
The manager, whose role should have been to lead and support the team, was consistently not the case. This lack of support and leadership created a challenging and frustrating work environment. One of the most disappointing aspects of my time at APM Employment Services was the company's tendency to turn on their own. Despite the initial promise of a positive work culture, it became clear that job security was precarious, and loyalty was not valued. As time went on, the workplace became increasingly toxic. The manger liked to gossip, and backstab the staff in their team. This became common occurrences, making it difficult to focus on the job at hand. All we wanted was a supportive manger. I found myself training new staff while I was not approved to just so they could get ahead. While I initially enjoyed my time at APM Employment Services, appreciating the positive aspects of the workplace, such as the team dynamics and the meaningful work we were doing, my experience was ultimately soured by my dismissal. I was fired over what I consider a minor mistake — a placement being put on too early, which could have been rectified with a simple correction. In conclusion, my time at APM Employment Services Cairns Region started with promise but ended in disappointment. The lack of support from management, the company's tendency to turn on employees, and the toxic work environment have left me with a negative impression of the company. I would not recommend APM Employment Services Cairns Region to others seeking a supportive and stable work environment.

There seemed to be a genuine care for jobseekers from upper management and the organisation as a whole (I would say that’s not the case with all employment service providers). Training was excellent and thorough and you have opportunity to work somewhat flexibly with clients. Accuracy, integrity, doing the right thing seemed to be of importance. I was let down only by my direct manager who had no previous management experience and probably the smarts to be in this role but I understand at the time with a small labour pool, an employer has to make compromises. I worked on my own all the time and managed the office and responsibilities myself- I found it difficult when my direct manager would not engage with me and would make excuses not to visit the office, and work alongside me. I eventually left as this manager asked me to do something unethical which I refused and I reported (unethical stuff not accepted at all at APM) this and she took it out on me. Overall however the site had some excellent outcomes and the overall communication, ability to call helplines for assistance, connectedness, training, pay, care for clients from APM was excellent.

Had really wonderful colleagues and managers which kept me in the role, however, the job is MUCH more complex than advertised. I don’t believe having a ‘customer service’ background is that  helpful in this role. I honestly think people need certain qualifications/training to support participants on their caseload. You often come across people in quite serious situations and sometimes, people in crisis which can be very confronting. KPI’s are drilled into you non-stop as well as claims which are never easy to get done and can lead to employers becoming annoyed with your contact as you’re prompted to get replies/answers in very small timeframes sometimes. Very challenging (at times) and very draining role which is why there is such low staff retention. The wage is also subpar for what you’re doing on a day to day basis, the role is huge with very high expectations.

You are provided training, have have online support, team members that i worked with are great also, give alot of support

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The expectation to hit KPI when things happen that are out of your control, higher up management does not care about what has gappened, they only worry about numbers and data. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
My fellow team members were great and gave support to one another, mangement has a unrealistic outlook and sets targets for the team to meet to high

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Can be stressful, each day is different. Expected to have success every day which is unrealistic considering that you are working on the Des side

Great organization to work for, there's always someone available to help, but at the same time, you must be resourceful and resilient, how far you go and how much you learn, is up to you and your effort. 
The company wants you to grow and thrive, they will support you to obtain a certificate or qualification at work and allocate you weekly study time during work hours, if you choose to go for a qualification.
The work itself requires you to be somewhat confident/thick skinned. If you're wanting to be an employment consultant, computer skills are a must, don't need to be a whiz but basic computer knowledge and comfortable finding your way around/learning new technology, as the role is about 50% admin/computers. 
If you like a challenge and to be pushed outside your comfort zone, handle confrontation well and like helping people from all walks of life, you will love this job. 



This is not a job for anyone who is easily rattled. It's a fabulous role if you can mange time effectively, are target oriented, and genuinely enjoy people and problem solving. You will be constantly pushed to meet placement targets that translate to management bonuses, but also denied time and financial resources to overcome individual client barriers to employment. If you are a great communicator who can navigate that contradiction and make strong business case arguments that benefit your clients as well as result in outcomes for the business, this is a job where you really can make a difference in people's lives. 

It pays well, has excellent opportunity for career growth and specialisation, and APM employs many clever and fundamentally good humans. 

I've definitely had worse jobs.

This company thrives on micromanagement. They offer great training and promise support and give you the impression they are there to "help people with injury, illness or disability". This is not the case once you reach a 3 month period, they are more concerned about their bottom line over helping people who genuinley need help. Yes some jobseekers do not want to work, they will usually tell you this. Your employed to help people move forward and help motivate them, yet if you focus on actually helping people you will get bullied for not making them money. 
To be clear the biggest issue with the company is the senior/higher management and their disrespect towards helping people.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Working with friendly Staff is the best part of the company. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Dealing with clients who are not interested in Working or finding a Job. Dealing with clients who are under the influence of alcohol or drugs. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The staff are Friendly to work with but you also have to deal with Managers who only care about results. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Going through your calendar of clients for the Day and phoning any clients who don’t show up for their appointment. Looking through Job vacancies for your clients and emailing the clients with Job vacancies

What is the best part of working at the company?
You receive a cheap Samsung mobile phone when you start.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Micromanagement, and KPI’s are unachievable. Stressful company to work for. The company was better before it listed on the stock market. Now their shares are at all time low.  

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Toxic work culture and it's like working in the 1990’s

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Talk to people on the dole, to try and find them a job, even though they don’t want to work.This forms part of your KPI, so if you can't find them work, you lose your job also!
