They provide lots of theoretical training but poor support once you are rostered to work with the person. I wasn't aware who the team leaders are, haven't had their phone numbers or emails. It is unclear who to call for what. No feedback (good or bad) was provided from the team leaders or management. As a newbie to the industry, I felt I was left of my own. The roster team not listening to workers' preferences but they are eager to call once they don't have shift fulfilled. If you request a shift in advance it took them ages to approve it. I was offered just two possible shifts, morning from 6 am to 2 pm and one afternoon from 2 pm to 10 pm + sleepover. Sleepover is paid $50. It is under the industry award but sleepover shift means you are far from your home 16 hours but paid just for 8, not to mention how it is impossible to have a decent night sleep in a strange bed, especially if shift prior was stressful. it is not possible to have a good work-life balance. 
The company might be good for experienced workers but if you looking for entry-level, look elsewhere. 


Can be difficult work supporting people in emergency and crisis situations but very valuable and worthwhile work supporting people with a disability who are in need

You need to be professional and tidy and clean or you will not meet expectations. Not a place for gossipers or lazy staff as management can be fair but strict 

Rosters often change but this is because clients can change shifts at a drop of a hat without notice 

Salary sacrifice and regular shifts are great and they are very flexible with leave planning

They also offer in-house training and qualifications that are either fee free or staff discounts 

Corporate management is great to deal with but some regional managers could improve

A lot of serious concerns about management in South Brisbane - lack of communication or replies to concerns/complaints raised, no respect for employees, constant double standards, little concern for the client, staff constantly put in dangerous circumstances. Also the rostering department is ridiculous - constant gaps on the roster resulting in being stuck on shift, constantly being called in, way too reliant on response staffing resulting in lack of responsibility. 

Overall the job impacted on my mental health and wellbeing, impacted on my social life outside of the job, and when concerns are raised little is done to fix them or they are ignored altogether.

Management is absoluely horrendous. Screws their clients and employees around. Shifts extremely inconsistent, expectations extremely unclear, and if they can't find someone to fill a shift, they often do not even let clients know. Policies and procedures are only enforced when it suits them. Assured I would get a certain amount of hours a week upon signing contract, however only way to get those hours is to say yes to last minute shifts scheduled far distances from my given address.

I was happy to work with the company. I enjoyed the teamwork and the co-operative staffs in different houses. The company provided good hours and provide work-life balance. The job was not hard for me because we work in teams. We enjoy the time with clients and take them for community access in different places like the park, sports clubs, shopping center, public library, movie, swimming etc.
The working place was like residential environment.

Ablecare provides relevant info on their clients, inductions into houses, on par with paperwork is a must. Most training is done with other staff/staffs during inductions and along with additional shifts. Company is good for a stepping stone into the disability sector.

Ok job very low pay  can get trapped on shifts for up to 24-36 hours

The best part of the job were the clients. Close second is the team that is there to support and mentor you.

I have gained a lot of experience working with clients of different aged groups and with different diagnosis. I enjoy my work environment and my colleagues are very helpful and loving.

First dSW job. Good introduction to support work with community access and SILS. Customers were always engaging and fun to work with. Lots of opportunities to complete training
